Re: 10 000 stars - e.e. cummings

Love you design, it's just beautiful.
By the way, Cummings NEVER gave titles to his work; so they're all cataloged by the first line of each poem.

The purples are awesome! It's a little too large on the shirt for me, though.

To me it says that the man inside the machine is patrolling and would love to get out and be closer to nature, but has a duty to complete first. I love how the machine is similar in colors but stands out so brazenly. There is no harmony between machine and nature - only the man's desire to leave one for the other.

Eye popping stuff. I love seeing something that's drawn so proficiently. Are those ship masts in the background or just big television aerials?

I'm so sad that this isn't in the Fog yet. It's too bad because it's refreshingly different from what you usually see at Woot.

But the poem specifically mentions at least a horse...

"Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."

Maybe I'm being too practical...?

Re: The Conqueror Worm

"While the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, "Man,"
And its hero the Conqueror Worm."

I don't expect this to do well, but I really like the poem!

Left side, midway down. 6 colors and must have halftones.
If you would like to team up, I would LOVE to just be able to do the art and not worry about the halftones part. Woot resizes for the kid sized shirts though, so some of the finest detail is lost if you get TOO fine with the halftones. So they cannot print something that looks like a full range of colors, such as a photo via cmyk, the mesh isn't fine enough. At least that's how I understand it. If you can work your magic to make the halftones look right as-is, I would gladly split the prize. (Not that I will be winning on my second derby, either. Heh.)

My email is this same name at gmail, if you'd like to discuss the next derby. I could always use design ideas also. Just let me know if we're going to do that next week, so I can plan on it. If I have a good idea, I want to try two different design styles. It took me twice as long to do the halftones and comp as it did to draw the art. :/

Sorry, rambled a bit there.

Funny Fairytale by Brendon Secrist

A noble knight,
On a proud steed.
He draws his sword,
As he sees,

A dark black dragon,
And a forest of thorns.
He rides as fast as he can,
To save the princess,
And slay the beast.
He charges up the stairs,
With shield and sword.
He blasts through the door,
To find the princess no more.

A lone piece of paper,
Lies on a far table.
He walks to the table,
And opens the letter.
And it says,

'Gone out to Lunch,
Be back soon'.

((((This is not from the Poem I added this))))

Thank you, so glad there's love for this design! Post-woot I will see what I can do; I am able to make my own fine art prints but the t-shirt and/or use of the poem I will have to look into.

Excerpt

On the Beach at Night, Alone.
By Walt Whitman

"ON the beach at night alone,
As the old mother sways her to and fro, singing her husky song,
As I watch the bright stars shining—I think a thought of the clef of the universes, and of
the future."

12 hours into the derby is still plenty early! Although many artists seem to be able to do it, it's an unrealistic expectation to think everyone needs to be camping out 'til Friday at noon with a finished design to submit. (I was on vacation this week so I was actually able to submit early, and it didn't help all that much.) A really good design should do well as long as it goes up sometime during the weekend.
