Shirt.Woot

Nox and I have two ideas going. The first is based on the idea that constellations were used as story telling devices. So we're playing that off with the animals "telling" their offspring the story of their corresponding constellations - the bears with Ursa Major, the swans with Cynus, etc.

I like the pop-culture bans... It seems like every time we have a pop-culture derby it turns into a festival of TMNT, nyan-cats, etc. There's tons of other shirt sites that offer that sort of thing; There aren't many that offer what we get here.

I didn't know about the suggestion thread, sorry.

To clarify, I am glad to see the pop culture ban at times too. I really enjoy seeing the great ideas that the artists come up with that are their own, not based on what someone else has come up with. I will also concede though that there are sometimes when I am glad to see those familiar characters.

I don't know the rules on that, but I reeeeaally like that shirt. I was sad when it didn't print. So I'm all for seeing it redone (:

this. so this it's crazy. for every good/clever use of a pop culture reference you get at least 3 or 4 entries where the pop culture riff is so shoe-horned into the derby theme it's disheartening to even look at.

also, since when are our only two options pop culture and artsy? we get lots or fun/cute stuff that doesn't reference pop culture. i can think of a good half a dozen woot artist who don't have particularly "artsy" artistic styles who also rarely make riffs on pop culture.

Thats true... There are those that feel their friends will tear them apart if their is the slightest thing incorrect on their shirt.

YES I'd been waiting for a star themed derby for ages! Please woot artists give me beautiful galaxies and planets and stars to spend my money on!

I'm going to recycle one of my very old entries this week as well. Funny how a lot of folks here are doing that this time. It's one of my first entries that actually broke 100 votes. I'm going to completely remake it using all the great advice and new shirt-making skills I've gained over the year from all you nice folks.

About pop culture, I like pop culture shirts, but as you said, they're everywhere (probably the pop culture ones that I like the most I find them here at shirt.woot). However, the non pop culture rule forces you to come up with original ideas, and your brain will thank you later! I think that maybe shirt.woot is focusing pop culture on the dailies, and leave the derby for other stuff?...just guessing

EDIT: If this I had known this derby theme a couple of days ago, I would have not submitted this to threadless

I've reworked the shapes and the palette, to try and make it look more like a floating blob of tea...

I worked on one more design, incorporating alchemical symbols for the planets into the golden mean...

Hey everyone! I'm a long time Woot! fan but new to the derby. Decided this week I wanted to give it a go and when I saw the theme I became extra excited. You guys have such amazing designs and can create them so fast! I'm working on a unique idea people hopefully like. Not looking to be in the fog, just looking to have fun and to keep improving!

Just wanted to poke in here and introduce myself and let you all know how much I love seeing so much talent and creativity!

Hello Michelle and welcome to the derby! Can't wait to see what you'll submit. Don't worry about the votes - I'm sure you're a much better artist than you're letting on. It can be a lot of fun, I'm a terrible artist and I've entered a few derbies myself. This is a great theme and there are bound to be a lot of entries to marvel over. you lost me with that. being from the US we don't have native penguins either, but we know what they are, and aren't so stupid as to think a penguin on an iceberg is gonna be seeing the Ursa Major/minor constellation
