Well...this is a really fast and rough sketch.... I don't know if I will be able to finish this...as it's my girlfriend's birthday... Basically is a bacteria, a virus and a protozoa playing the game RISK, to rule the world their own infective way hahaha. Lately I've been playing "Pandemic", a great board game, and I wanted to do something related to that (if you haven't played yet YOU SHOULD!), though in the game you fight against these little infective agents It would be great if you say if the design is easy to understand, cause I'm worried that it might be a bit difficult to..
lyonscc wrote:Realize that the "wood for sheep" joke is a sexual riff that the mods will likely reject, since I doubt Woot wants to sell a shirt with a sheep-sex joke on it...
Um, I may be misunderstanding this, but if you've played Settlers, you'd know that the design is actually pretty spot on. As for the design itself, I thought it was great. Having the other elements (brick and wheat) was a nice touch. I've had many games where I've said "I need wood," people have giggled, but then got the right card. Any Settler player will love this shirt and recall a game or two where they've had oodles of sheep or wheat and needed wood or ore. If you're worried, try making an alternate version with the other resources and have a log in the background. I do think that the resources could be swapped out and the joke will still work and then you don't have to worry about someone crying "Oh My Fruitful Garden CRUDE SEXUAL REFERENCE! NO!" Edit: One option is to change it to having hungry sheep and needing wheat. Keeps it G rated, funny, relevant.

That's awesome. Simple, wearable, clever. Perfect. I was going to make a t-shirt about the game I invented, it's called 5-card-Battle-Chess-Opoly, but I'm not drunk enough to remember the rules.
midgerock wrote:I'm thinking of subbing these 2 designs. What do you think?
Love the 2nd! So awesome--as a board gamer and Big Bang watcher, that shirt is perfection!
jasneko wrote:Settlers fans - any suggestions/help with how to phrase this? Thanks! (hopefully the sheep surplus - and occasional drought - isn't something that just happens in the games I play!)
Personally I always have a ton of sheep, a little wood and am in need of bricks. I get together with my friends and we have a games day, and this is one of my favs!! Good luck with this design, I really like it!
What do you think?
NO ZELDA??!!1!?? Asdfghjkl. !! D:
That's too ba-a-a-ad!

I've played Settlers since it won Game of the Year at Origens back in '96. I've also got the full Knights and Seafarers sets, the German version of the game and a couple of other random expansions. I looked at the design and your caption and assumed that it was the old "I need wood for sheep" joke that makes the rounds at GenCon here in Indianapolis every stinking year... EDIT: See here and here for examples of this joke...
Leahbh wrote:the thing that bothers me about this one is that dice is plural of die. You only have 1 die, not dice.
Thanks for the catch Leahbh. I'm going to change it to die because I know it probably will be same comment with a majority of wooters although its a small nitpick but easily changed.
This is a sketch for one of my two ideas. It's so nice to get ideas again, even if they are silly. Thank you to everyone who helped me through my "artist's block" on the forums. The composition will pretty much be just like this. The line-work and colors are still in progress. I'd like to know what people think of the concept. Also, I wonder if I should put the title "Settlers of CATan" on the actual shirt, or is the joke readable without it?

i don't care if it makes me juvenile, i enjoy the "need wood" and "too much wood" jokes in a game of settlers. then again i enjoy all the "that's wha she/he said" jokes in a round of minigolf.
UPdated - still open to titles - thanks, all!

"Colonists" Though perhaps the logical leap from "Settlers" to "Bee Colony" is a bit much.

I think that it looks good and readable. I knew what was going on without reading the title or explanation. Great idea .
kevlar51 wrote:"Colonists" Though perhaps the logical leap from "Settlers" to "Bee Colony" is a bit much.
Nice! That makes me think..maybe somethng obvious like 'Settlers of the Hive'
Kevlar51 & Walmazan, I so wish you could resubmit this for this derby! Maybe third time would have been the charm. Ukraine is Strong! EDIT: Didn't realize it was a collab so I added Walmazan too!

Haha, thanks! I like that one Maybe Woot wants it for a side sale?! Do you hear me woot?!!?? :P

Cute idea! As for the title, how about Honeycomb-the expansion edition.
Oops, I mean to reply to this post :-p How about "Honeycomb-the expansion edition."
Here's something I'm working on. I like the idea, but I'm not sure I have enough talent to pull it off. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Technical or otherwise? Also, I don't have a title. Raiders of the Lost Yarg? I'm no gouda thinking of titles. I'd cheddar sleep on it. Brie right back...

If you want people to make the connection easily, you should add more hexagons to the board. Right now, that's one tiny Catan game.

Yea, totally. I'm honestly really bad a drawing hexagons (I dunno, don't ask) so in the sketch it looks kind of rough. I plan on making the board bigger and more Katan-shaped.

It involves dice, random utterances of "go fish", and you have to yell BINGO when the dog captures a pawn or when a knight moves in on Reading Railroad.
Colonists of Cataan? Colony of Cataan?

I think infectious disease + Risk is a great idea. You know world domination is the only thing they want!
Please, more Clue. Everybody. Everybody, please. PLEASE!!! You can haz my monies. I wantz yer Clue shirts.
From my experience you usually use more than one die when playing most games involving 20-sided die (especially when playing D&D). He may have drawn ONE to enhance his point, but I don't think his use is incorrect for the point he's trying to make.
It's been a long time since I've entered a derby. My idea is... a family sitting at the dining table for game night, but everyone is playing on their smart phones. I haven't decided on shirt color or design colors yet.

I might be wrong but I think Family game Night is trademarked by Hasbro...
tjost wrote:I might be wrong but I think Family game Night is trademarked by Hasbro...
Yeah looks like you're right. "Family Game Night® is a registered trademark used for Equipment Sold As a Unit For Playing a Parlor Type Game and owned by Hasbro, Inc." Not sure if text on a shirt design falls under use as equipment, but I think I'll avoid it altogether and come up with some new text. Thanks for the heads up.
It's not immediately obvious that they're smart phones, maybe because of the size. Can you make their faces aglow? That would sell it for me.

I agree, and the slogan sounds much much better with the word dice.
Still have tweaks and halftoning to do, but here is where I am. Added a board and some fire and ice action (hopefully not too much...) Black or cranberry?

Seconded! Please, this needs to print!

Good suggestion. Thanks. Also... I'm going to change the text to, "Family Quality Time".
oh man, now I really want to play Settlers...hmmm, have been thinking I should get back in the submitting game, going to have to mull this one over.
Looking for a good home? Sheep swap?
Thanks for the comments! Glad I'm not the only one who has the problem of too many sheep;) And that people like it! Definitely did not intend for any innuendos. How about this instead? (will fix up the lettering, just putting this phrase out there). oR "Anyone want sheep?" or suggestions welcome too!
Please will someone do a fabulous take on Settlers of Catan? I'd have to buy one for just about everyone I know... (Oh, I should read before I write! I just saw that there are some out there! Yay!)
