I lol'd. I'd totally buy this if you finish it. Especially if you use some nice bright colors.

Edit: Whoops, posted this before reading the other comments.

The composition will pretty much be just like this. The line-work and colors are still in progress. I'd like to know what people think of the concept. Also, I wonder if I should put the title "Settlers of CATan" on the actual shirt, or is the joke readable without it?

I would hit the "I want one!" button on this lightning-fast. I definitely think the joke is readable without the text. If you did add the text, I would suggest it being small and somewhere not immediately noticeable. I think it would help my non-settler friends to get the joke, but I think having it too large or obvious would detract from your design.

Yes! Now that I see it all colored in, I love it! Definitely voting for this.

I am such a Catan addict and I was hoping someone would do just what you did. Not everyone in the world plays Catan (yet) so I think it is a good idea to have the verbal pun. But I agree with the above: small and not immediately noticeable. Definitely a buy. Thank you! RockandSnow

Unless "D20" happens to be a copyrighted term and you're trying to avoid running afoul of that, this really needs to be "D20", not "20D". "D20" is almost universally used for the icosahedral die. "20D" would irritate me every day, and my pedantic gamer friends would never stop picking on it. I couldn't buy the design as is.

I think it's recognizable enough as Risk to gamer nerds just from the world map and little colored markers on a table-top. Non-nerds may get it too as a pandemic joke.

"HAHA look at the microbes planning to conquer the earth"

I think it's a great idea.

I agree that the characters could be polished up a little too.

Also artistically, if you're looking to add a little gamer cred to it, the numerals on the faces should look engraved, rather than painted onto the die.

Still not sure which phrase to go with ... though I prefer less text, so if I don't see a clear preference, I might go with the shorter 'sheep for wheat?'

@chaoswerecat - I know exactly what you mean, hehe.
With that - even if 'Sheep for wheat?' wouldn't be your trade query, do you still find it funny as a settlers player?

@neuropsychosocial - It's cool that you like it without having played settlers! (or where you saying that was from someone else?)
With the colors - I haven't been reading the forums regularly lately... I didn't know some are still printed on AA!? Which colors besides cranberry?

PS. Ochopika - love yours so far! Awesome:D

yes, I would still find it funny! I did not get the wood joke at the start as it was and liked that one already. "Need something other than sheep" shows the usual desperation that goes with it (maybe "other" in bigger letters?). But "Sheep for wheat?" is nice and short, more catchy.
I will buy one no matter what text you put under it and I will worship you if you manage to get it printed on an AA shirt!

You like board games? We LOVE board games! We play all kinds of stuff, from Power Grid to Ad Astra to Settlers of Catan to Zombie Dice to Munchkin and everything in between. So this week we want you to get all board gamey. Show us your best ideas for board games, people playing board games (and, since you're gonna do it anyway, animals playing board games), or perfectly depict your ultimate game night, complete with snacks and last minute winning dice roll. Go nuts! Within these rules:

No Mario/Zelda/Star Wars. Definitely don't use any current, copyrighted board game imagery.

I think the majority of the submissions are missing the point entirely. Almost every single piece has imagery from copyrighted games in it, from the easily recognizable trivial pursuit pieces, to the battleship pieces, life pieces, etc. I see a lot of rejections happening because people didn't come up with more original ideas other than an animated gaming piece or two.

No, my comment about loving your shirt without having played Settlers was directed at you! Cranberry is still printing on AA in all sizes and (so far) royal blue is printing on AA in women's and men's sizes. I'm guessing that there are still olive and baby blue AA blanks in all sizes (because "1971" is still printing on olive, and "Spelling Bee" debuted last week on all-AA). Woot hasn't released an official list, so this is speculation based on shirts in the Reckoning and side-sales are printing on AA vs. Anvil. I've been keeping track for a while (4-6 weeks?) and someone was doing it before me, so we do have some data behind our speculations!

wirdou wrote:well... I guess I will be able to finish it hahaha It still needs some details and do the halftoning, but I'm pretty happy with how it looks :D

I really like this shirt as well; I colors are fantastic and I think it reads well for anyone familiar with the underlying joke. I know it's too late, but FWIW, I find the "not really Coke classic, promise!" soda cans visually very distracting. The other colors in the shirt are in a similar non-primary color family, and the red (to me) is a visual beacon: my eyes go straight to it. Plus, it's clearly intended to represent a specific soda and I think that detracts from the joke; it certainly took me longer to look for the joke because my brain was decoding/making sense of the can first. I'm not sure if anyone has studied how long the average person looks at a t-shirt being worn by another person, but because of where the design prints on women's shirts, my experience has been that a design needs to be readable instantly or people don't "get" it, because we're all trained not to stare at a woman's chest.
