yeah, I really screwed up both of my knees in high school, so it's a reoccurring problem.

Trying to figure out brand and what color stain to put on the deck. One company's sending me samples. That might help.

Yay samples!

I'm trying to get my heart rate down to normal. My daughter was having an allergic reaction at school when I got there to read with her class. Had to drive home and scramble to find allergy meds and get back to her. She was fighting me (and apparently the teacher) - which she does when she has an allergic reaction. She insisted she would not go home. She wouldn't swallow the schools benedryl so I drove home for the liquid stuff. Thankfully she is fine, but she did say it was hard to swallow the liquid meds. The rashes were clearing by the time I was done cleaning the kitchen area. They say the reactions can get worse each time she has one. We still have no clue what caused it, she didn't eat anything unusual.

Not really. The office staff is pretty good and diagnosing stuff, but she was in class and hadn't gone to the nurse. Her teacher said at lunch (I talk to him pretty much every day) that she had a different attitude then yesterday, but since even acting out she's more mellow then some of her classmates it didn't raise an alarm for him.

Guy across the street saved the day with mom
Called a plumber friend and they got it fixed. Some sort of halfassed setup that the original owner did finally broke.

Took her to the bank, supermarket and out to lunch. So, for now, all is well in the mom world.

We did talk about senior housing. She is going to experience sticker shock when she see's the prices. What she had in mind, I just saw as the number for low income, subsidized apts.
I'm guessing almost double what she is thinking.

Have you thought about a clear preservative instead of a color stain? That's what we did with our new deck in Washington. We used Bear Wood Protector. We had to apply it yearly but it left the wood in a natural state.

Yikes! I'd leave a bottle of Benedryl at the school with a letter authorizing them to give it to her after contacting you. It might be good to work with your daughter to write down everything she did in the hour prior to the event. If you do this a few times, you might figure out the cause. It could be contact rather than ingested.

We have four things that could have happened with us. I will talk to her about anything she touched. I work at the school every day between 10:45 and ~1:00. This is the first time in 2 years she's had a reaction at school. It's probably the first time in two years she's had a reaction, period. We are very careful with both the girls. In fact the only reason I had liquid benedryl was because we've been traveling and I always take some when we will be eating with other people and I can't be 100% sure there isn't milk or eggs in something. This was probably a milk reaction, or something new, I hope it's not the later.

Ah. You said they go worse each time which made it sound like they were happening more often. It's scary either way.

It's common for allergic reactions to get worse each time, this wasn't her worst reaction. It was her worst reaction in a long time. I might keep Benedryl in the car though. Especially since school lets out in a week and a half.

I recommend keeping it as natural as possible; dark stain invites unnecessary radiant heating which hastens drying out of the wood.

Everything is tomorrow. Next door neighbors graduation party and the town fireworks.

One will screw up the other.
How early you get to the fireworks, determines how fast you get out of the parking lot when they are over.

You get to sit around for hours waiting for it to get dark!

But the party is the same time the parking lots open up.
Can't drop off a car, because you can't get dropped off later.

Of course, because a party would mean people, hubby is willing to dump it totally.

Absolutely would not use a Behr product on the deck. Did that once on the old deck, stripped, cleaned, put it on; didn't last a year.

Besides, irrespective of any stain/sealant's claims, two initial coats are usually required for any real durability of protection.

We are watching a friend's kids so she and her husband can keep their preplanned date night out of town, that her family member who was watching the kids threatened to ruin by backing out on watching the kids two days ago. We aren't super close and her daughter and my oldest were in preschool together, but have only seen each other a handful of times since. Thankfully my kids are ok with it. We'll put the older brother on the couch and the 7 year old girl on the floor of the girls' room.

Come to think of it, I think it was Thompson's Wood Protector (not sealer). We had a 1400sqft deck built. The guy was an artist with wood. Had us water if daily for about 2 weeks while the wood did whatever it does. He told us what to use and to apply it yearly. We used a bug sprayer to apply it and then went over it with paint rollers on long handles (like mops).

Put it on Sara Lee pound cake. (And did more than drizzle /snicker.)

Edit: The recipe also said it could be put on poached pears. I doooon't think so.
