Making fun of someone? I think you may be missing a lot of the different angles you can take on this theme. There are a lot of personality "defects" that have been made into very popular shirts and aren't at all mean-spirited. In fact many of the shirts celebrate these "personality defects" as something to be proud of. I'm hopeful designers will see past the obvious and gross and make the most of the theme.

I dunno, from nathan's wips, he seems to be on the right track with the theme, and not at all mean-spirited.

I second that. I totally see where Josephus is coming from, and I'll bet we see a lot of entries like that, but I'll be voting for stuff like nathan's. I'm far more likely to vote for, and buy, a shirt that illustrates, in a funny way like nathan's, a trait I know I have myself rather than one that makes fun of other people.

Just had this idea, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

My first thought was the background a full speech bubble and skeleys/cobwebed listeners. But I think it has been done.

BRILLIANT! As a professional editor, this would be my new favorite shirt.

My soul is already crying over the non-AA print.

Haha, glad you like! As a professional writer/producer, it was an idea that hit close to home for me as well..

..though I'm more often tangling with grammar than spelling.

I am one who had to look it up. I will say that coming from a language that reads left to right the layout is a bit confusing. As you have happy and then the sad, so it doesn't read as that happy coming from the sad. Having the girls look at each other may help the readability too.

Edit- that is coming from trying to figure out the word from your drawing, it didn't click for me, though I don't know that what I suggested would have changed that.

As artists are starting to think about their designs for Derby #251, I wanted to drop off a link to the dynamic list of manufacturer/color combinations as well as post a static but current list here. There's some research behind this, but of course, no guarantees so we accept no liability for your design choices. We do accept spare screaming monkeys in need of a loving home. )

Asphalt - all Anvil
Baby Blue - AA for women and kids, Anvil or AA for men
Black - all Anvil
Brown - AA for kids, Anvil for men and women
Cranberry - all AA
Creme - AA for kids, Anvil for men and women
Grass Green - all Anvil
Kelly Green - all Anvil
Lemon - AA for men and kids, Anvil for women
Navy - all Anvil
Olive - all AA
Red - AA for kids, Anvil for men and women
Royal - AA for men and women, Anvil for kids
Silver - AA for women, Anvil for men and kids
Slate - all Anvil
White - AA for men and kids, Anvil for women

[Note: previous designs have appeared on Anvil brown in kids' sizes and on Anvil baby blue in women's sizes, but kids' brown and women's baby blue shirts have subsequently printed on AA; men's baby blue shirts have been released this week on both Anvil (Monday) and AA (Wednesday), with an older shirt still listed as printing on AA]

Just a quick question because I'm not fully understanding of this concept, but what is AA and Anvil?

Well, I'm going then with something smelly, "Bad Breath" (sorry, but had the idea before all the debate). I looked for this idea but found nothing similar...It's a really rough sketch but I think it will look good. But this doesn't mean...that...I...have bad breath...I swear... haha Hope you like it, and any thought will be appreciated. I wanna add some details like posters of "join the vampire slayers" or things like that

shirt.woot is in the process of switching the "blank" shirts (called "blanks") on which they print the designs. Previously, they used American-made "AA" (American Apparel) and now they will use Honduran/Nicaraguan/Bangladeshi-made Anvil blanks. However, they still have some AA shirts left, so shirts are printing on a mix of AA and Anvil shirts right now, sometime with men's shirts made by one manufacturer and women's by the other, for the same design. I posted the color/manufacturer combination list in case a designer was interested in using that information to choose a shirt color for his/her Derby design.

Thanks for the advice, everybody. Better reversed (with some clean up coming)?

Edit: I still kind of read it the same way - Schadenfreude Master, Pleased Woman, Sad Woman. I think I go by height (top to bottom) when I look at t-shirts. Maybe that's just me, though.

I guess it's because I already saw the left to right/up to down, and also because we're naturalized to read left to right/up to down in this culture, but reversed just seems very jarring. I don't feel that it flows right in reverse.
