What an odd band. But, I do like their sound. Thank you for introducing us.

Edit:
And the eccentric band member in the wind chime hat is very cute... and a lumberjack.

I really have tried to like Neutral Milk Hotel, but never been very successful at it. However, I love this shirt and would wear it proudly. Hope that doesn't make me a "poser." o_O

Somehow I knew the mighty edgar was a Neutral Milk Hotel fan, now we have much in common and I'll vote for this design with the ferocity of 10,000 Anne Franks.

Do a microphones shirt next!

I'm pretty sure more than 10 people know the band; they have a Wikipedia site. Also, I'm sure a bunch of people (including me) have streamed that song by now to listen to it. So with all of the fans and us newbs alike, I'd say the sum is greater than 10. If you'll notice Woot's context, it's to avoid re-subs with shirts like Calvinball. (which never seems to die)

Neutral Milk Hotel are the sort of band which, if you were to go up to anyone vaguely indie, they should know who they are. So I'd say far more people know this song than you think.

I don't get why anybody likes edgar's style, it's so wierd and the characters are usually cherubic and ugly and the colors can clash. I'm not trying to be mean its just I don't get it no matter how hard I try.

Oh let me try sarcasm
So your saying because I don't understand/like a VERY particular style means I am the same as everyone else and that there are two classes of shirts: 1. wierd to the point of having no meaning 2. widely appealing and thus lame. Ok I get it now and agree entirely.
End Sarcasm

I guess I don't have the same tastes as alot of the people around here. Probably the reason no one votes for my shirts. I only posted because I am truly confused about why people would vote for this. I wouldn't wear it with a 50 foot pole... Sorry if I sounded mean.

Please get this one back in the fog! It'll make a great spring/summer shirt. Nice low ink to shirt ratio which is better on the thin AA shirts. (imo) Fable- love your yellow one too, but I like Edgar's just a smidgen better. A wonderfully unique design. Another derby where printing 3 just isn't enough!

i will agree with you about this design. and there are some good designs but overall i am disappointed in this derby. music is such a creative expression of art and i really expected more from this derby. i mean a lime with an arrow to a coconut like come on. and people are choosing some of the worst songs or doing horrible injustices to great songs. sometimes i just don't understand the derby crowd. like are some of these designs really t-shirt worthy. but i guess i am against the majority on this one

I have to agree with you to some extent. When I first saw the derby, I thought we would get some really great designs that embodied more than just a title of a song, or one line of a song. I was hoping that the majority of designs would embody the entire story within the lyrics and would have a style that somehow ties into the music as well. I'm not really seeing that in the derby and maybe it was a lot to ask for.

Don't get me wrong, all the fogged entries are well-executed and will probably look great on a tshirt...it's just not what I expected to see when I first saw the derby announced.

But, it's still a great derby theme and I enjoyed seeing the types of music people chose.

i think there is some good artwork and some of it is well executed but i guess i am just so into music i expected better. when i thought of this derby the first thing that came into my mind is some of the amazing album artwork out there. i am also a little dissapointed by the designs for some songs. i think you said it well i expected designs that were more than just a representation of the lyrics but also of the art of the music. but i also know that i have some off the wall music taste such as knowing who neutral milk hotel was before the derby

This design is not at all childish although it does posses an edgy innocence like most of Edgar's work I've seen. To me, this design functions not only as an illustration of the song lyrics, but also as an independent, surrealist image. If I saw someone wearing this shirt (and wasn't familiar with the derby and knew it's origin) I'd probably think, "What a cool and quirky shirt!" And while I might also be curious about what was going on in the creator's head when he came up with this, (because personally I'd love to learn how to send my mental airplane on such kooky flights of fancy!), I wouldn't feel the need to run up to the person wearing the shirt to demand, "But what does it MEAN?!"

Edgar's shirt have this...innocence about them. I truly, truly, love his style. His shirts hardly ever fail to bring a smile to my face. His robot/soul shirt left me breathless. To me, his has the astoundingly magnificent ability to convey incredible emotion with his work.
Plus, he never wavers from his style. He do what he do.

just to clear things up . . .

When you were young you were the king of carrot flowers
And how you built a tower tumbling through the trees
In holy rattlesnakes that fell all around your feet

And your mom would stick a fork right into daddy's shoulder
And your dad would throw the garbage all across the floor
As we would lay and learn what each other's bodies were for

And this is the room one afternoon I knew I could love you
And from above you how I sank into your soul
Into that secret place where no one dares to go

And your mom would sink until she was no longer speaking
And dad would dream of all the different ways to die
Each one a little more than he could dare to try

There's only ever been one Edgar shirt for sale on Woot. Since it had a lot of pink and... possibly some intestines, it was a hard sell for a lot of people. I have it and it's great, tho

The shirt Woot sold was a daily, and very different from the sort of work Edgar typically enters in the derby. I think most people are holding out for one in his more typical style.

Such a fantastic shirt. I bet you could make a great Holland, 1945 shirt too, if you wanted to that is. It's such a vivid song. : )

Plus, he never wavers from his style. He do what he do.

I respect that. It's too strange for alot of people though. Maybe he should try appealing to the masses, if he wants to get more shirts printed. At the same time I don't want to encourage him to compromise his unique style.

I cannot express how much I desire to obtain and proudly where this shirt until it is worn down to but a makeshift sash of fibers.

Amazing interpretation of an absolutely amazing song.

I do so wish to see a Two-headed Boy illustration, as well :3
