Resub -- fixed a color in one of the squares. And the official colors are:

EDIT:
In strict adherence to the rules, the specific lyrics referred to are in bold below:

All around the mulberry bush
The monkey chased the weasel
The monkey thought 'twas all in fun
Pop! goes the weasel.

I think it's really well done for this style. Great colors, too!

This is really clever. Sometimes I vote for shirts that amuse me or are well-designed but that I wouldn't buy. This one I would actually consider paying for.

It vacuums that you had to resub this. It was doing really well as of last night. I hope it can make it's way back up...I really want this shirt.

I’m hoping too! I lost a ton of votes for doing the resub. The difference was subtle, but I was trying to do the right thing. Everyone please vote/revote – give the weasels another chance! I’d still really like to see this in print!

Very clever!

An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

I have a question: how will this be printed? with each individual square? or as a whole? if you get what i mean.

Have these shirts in WS and are willing to sell? PM please!

In the print-ready file, each of the 6 colors has been separated onto a separate layer (PhotoShop, 7200x7200 pixels) and each color will be printed in one stroke by the silk-screeners. Most colors appear in each of the squares, so a part of each square would be printed on each stroke. Does that answer it? White is not one of the ink colors, meaning the shirt will show through in those areas. The final product should appear pretty close to the way it looks on the shirt in the picture at the top of this page.

7200 pixels at 300dpi makes that 24 inches. You know the max is 16x20 inches and 300dpi, right?

I actually set the file to 600dpi (12x12 inches), going with the higher resolution to be on the safe side. I know woot likes to resize them for the different size shirts. The shirt should print as shown in the comp!

These weasels are looking for love! Maybe if I share a little of the design process it will get a second (or first) look?

For anyone interested, the weasels started as a sketch, which I “painted” with solid gray dots. Once I had them 9-up I used the Select/Color Range (tolerance at 0) on the grays to make layer masks and filled under the masks with the selected colors. The original is 7200x7200 pixels (lots of extra resolution) which kept my computer busy by the time I’d added a few layers. All PhotoShop. I’ve never tried anything quite like this before, but I couldn’t be happier with the result. It lost bad on the resubmission, but we have the better part of a week left, so I’m hoping there’s still time for it to be a contender.

I suppose more DPI isn't a bad thing, but here's what it says on the submission page:

In order for us to print your shirt, we'll need you to provide a detailed 16"x20" 300 DPI file layered with each color on a separate layer in AI, PSD, SVG or PDF format. We will also accept a ZIP archive.

I don't see it being a problem, but woot has taken issue with stranger things.

I was fortunate enough to have another shirt printed, and that was submitted at 600dpi also, with no complaints. I'm not sure where I got that number -- I know I read it somewhere in the forums before my first-ever submission, and just kindof stuck with it when I wasn't submitting vector art. Knowing woot likes to shrink the image for the smaller size shirts, it made sense to me to err on the side of higher resolution.

I remember your printing. It was just something that struck me as odd, is all. It's usually better to err on the side of higher resolution, imo, but woot has a wonderful way of doing things that is completely unpredictable. On the chance that this was the first time you'd done 600 dpi I wanted to point that out. Like I said, I don't think it's a bad thing. ^_^

I'm not sure that I agree with this. Considering that the smallest thing they can print is something like 1 pt (according to the line derby), than they can print at around 72 dpi. Considering how small an actual pixel is at 600 dpi compared to what is printable, I would argue that it is better to err on the side of lower resolution, so as not to show the voters unprintable design detail. I'm not saying that this particular shirt is unprintable by any means, just stating my opinion on resolution choice. 600 dpi holds a WHOLE LOT more info than could ever make it on a shirt, therefore it can potentially be an entirely unprintable design that people are voting on. At 600 dpi, EVERY detail needs to be something like 8 pixels in order to be printable.

Good to see this shirt making it's way (slowly but surely) back up...Oh man, if it wins, I'm going to need more than 3, I know so many ferret people who would love to have this shirt.

The only downside is I can't get you any more votes because I don't know anyone else who CAN vote - that is, no one else who has purchased anything from Woot...

I see your point. Personally, I’d use the resolution responsibly, but if people thought they could get away with a 1 pixel line at that resolution, that could be a problem. On the other hand, anything that small would never be visible on the shirt comp, so when it didn’t print, no one would be the wiser.

Woot finally let on that a 1 point line was about what they figured was a limit to their printing ability. But there are times when they’ll print smaller: at the tip of two lines converging, the image will go down to nothingness – a sharp point. That point might not be placed to the exact pixel of the artwork (once it’s been transferred to a screen and the screen’s been used a few times) but having that pixel as the starting point isn’t bad. Does that make sense?

When I imagine an image being reduced by 15 or 20% (i.e. to fit smaller shirts) I guess I just imagine the jaggies I see on my computer screen when I try odd percentages. Like I say, I don’t know where I got it, but the 600dpi made sense at the time. It is probably overkill, as you say.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Thanks for the re-vote -- and to others that have done the same! Oh, and thanks to the first-time voters too! There's still a lot of catching up to do, but it's made my day to finally see the weasels back in the hotness.

what else would people be submitting to them?

blu is correct in the end. higher resolutions merely allow people to deceive voters into thinking a design will look better than it could possibly print (not pointing that at the weasels...that comp looks great).

A comp is 600px square. Just about any entry, once reduced to that size, loses so much resolution I don't think the voter would be deceived -- even if the artwork started out at an outrageously high resolution. If anything, imperfections are covered up in the reduction, deceiving the voter in that way. There is, however, a danger that a designer might deceive themselves into thinking they could get away with more than is printable. I think that was more blu's point. Truth be told, that's already the case at 300dpi. It's good to have the "1 point" rule as a reference.

A valid discussion all around. As has been noted, there's nothing in the weasel shirt in danger of being too small to print, but I'll likely go back to 300dpi in the future, if the consensus of those with experience is that it's adequate.

Ok now, back to voting for the weasels!

So I work in a retail store and I think I just realized it may have been this shirt that inspired me to set up pop art displays of capris and shorts in our juniors department. And there I was thinking I was being clever.

Great design, I would really like to own it.

And I'm not even including the ones that were gifts!

It's a pity it looks like we won't get any weasels this time around - it's one of the few shirts in this derby that really stands on its own without needing a song title as an explanation, 'cuz the art's just fun. There are some spiffy designs up there in the fog but I want my weasels!

Definitely should be back in the fog... just on cleverness factor...
The Artwork is awesome.

This contest is kind of weird because (in my opinion) if someone doesn't like the song (or has it on original vinyl) it effects the vote...

I voted for it twice
once for cleverness
once for design/execution...
