Re: maple leaf
Wow, Great job! This derby is turning out better than expected.
Re: maple leaf
i really liked your la calavera and blackbird entries from the past 2 derbies (really wanted that half skull, such depth...alas 4th)
once again, MEIN LIEBEN! line work, keep it up ~ GMV
JadenKale wrote:where was this for line art week?!? This would have totally won!
Would it look as good in 1 color, though?
SailorButterfly wrote:Would it look as good in 1 color, though?
i think it could work in one color, but three adds a little more depth
Re: maple leaf
Curious to know how this was done... ?

i use photoshop and a drawing tablet

You mean you just sketch in each line one at a time? That's got to be challenging. Do you use an image of a leaf (or a skull or whatever) as a guide?

i look through photos and make sketches of the parts i like
then create a simple outline and block in the highlight / shadow areas
that is my base layer
then in photoshop i shade everything in with a base coat of cross hatching
on a new layer
and keep drawing layers of lines
it usually ends up taking on a life of it's own
it can be repetitive and tedious but relaxing

Sounds like you put a lot of work into these, but clearly the results show how much it pays off.
By the way, I sent you a PM (In case you missed it... I usually don't see them either :-) with a question for you. Get back to me when you have the time.

I've been watching the derbies since I found about them when my girlfriend showed them to me (sokowa). This is the first shirt that I've seen that I would buy and wear.
Re: maple leaf
The maples in the fog are very nice indeed but yours is beautiful. Subtle and classy, this should appeal to guys and gals. good luck.

thank you all for the kind words
Re: maple leaf
Beautiful! And definitely on it's way to the fog.
Re: maple leaf
very pretty!
Re: maple leaf
You, my friend, are a crosshatch fiend ;-)
Re: maple leaf
yay!!! it's in the fog!!! *drools over the leaf* Awesome job Enin!
Re: maple leaf
I'm still bummed I never got a chance to buy your awesome skull shirt... but this is beautiful. I'd pick this up in a heartbeat. Keep it up, I love your designs.
Very nice design. Good line work. I wish it was the full leaf centered, though.

Yep, she doesn't mind she knows that puffy sheep and demented childrens songs aren't my thing for t-shirts, although I do find them hilarious.
Thats some fantastic line work, but thats also a lot of brown...

Re: maple leaf
I love this shirt because it is in keeping with the theme without being a cheesie tourist t-shirt that you'd buy at a Niagra Falls trap. Quietly lovely. Good Luck!
Re: maple leaf
Lovely. That is all.
Re: maple leaf
Simply elegent daahhhling.
Re: maple leaf
I like this shirt so much. too bad its color scheme and "look" is so close to another shirt i already own... Cool Breeze. I'm sure you've heard of the shirt... longest selling shirt, i think.
Re: maple leaf
this is painfully awesome. and brown. I have an army of brown t-shirts-- could always add more.
good luck!
Re: maple leaf
This is gorgeous. Your skull is one of my favorite designs, and this one is right up there with it.
Re: maple leaf
I just need to say that it is SOOOOOOOOOO refreshing to see some real clever art on a shirt, and this one is an example of a few in this derby that's actually original, classy, and aesthetically stunning. Well done!
Re: maple leaf
P.S. WOOT: do not put this shirt on black, please, please, please, fight the temptation that you so easily fall into. Keep it on a brown shirt!
Calvin888MEN wrote:P.S. WOOT: do not put this shirt on black, please, please, please, fight the temptation that you so easily fall into. Keep it on a brown shirt!
Why would woot print this on black? The designer has put it on brown, and unless the designer changed their mind, that is what woot would print it on. I have not seen many, if any, derby shirts printed on a different color than intended.
Re: maple leaf
At first glance, I thought this was on olive.... I still love the artwork, but I can't help but think the colors of the leaf would pop more on an Olive shirt.
you got me thinking......
ends up not working so well

Never mind... ;)
Needs more shading with the brown on olive. But I do like the reds & oranges on it!

How's it look on black? :-)

I like this one so much more. I'd actually probably buy it on the olive. Alas!

And this one!

I second those remarks.
Re: maple leaf
I really like this, my only concern would be due to all the intracate detail I'm not too sure how good the reproduction would be via silkscreening. I hate to say it but my gut says when these are shipped out the detail may be lost, however from afar it should look the same.

Nope, longest selling is Zombie Season
I loved la calavera, and this is of the same ilk. Just great. Keep it up!
Re: maple leaf
This design really reminds me of dipping dried leaves in paint and impressing them on construction paper.
Nice job, Enin. Hope your maple leaf holds out, very wearable imo. I really liked your la calavera design; but think your perspective, effect and depth works well with this subject matter, too.

No worries there. This shirt is by far the vote leader... way in first place.
Re: maple leaf
This is awesome! I have been sitting here trying to come up with something more better than awesome, but I'm not sure there is anything. What I really like is how it becomes life when you pull back from the detail.
Good Luck! I hope you take first place!
I don't think I like the placement. After thinking about it, It's hard to think of any place on the shirt it would look good. I feel like the bottom right or left would be best though...
You get my vote!
