This idea is similar in concept to existing shirts, as one person has already pointed out. Granted, I agree - though I am making an addition execution-wise to an idea {which, fortunately, cannot be protected}. It is very different from the examples of which i'm sure a couple of people will point out, and based on woots decisions made in this dept. in the past, I very much doubt this is rejection material. I might be wrong. I will say this, let's keep the thread clean in here - I know you guys like to get out of hand. The tattle button is at the top right corner, and if you must - make your case and move on. Let's not turn this into a flame war. Thank you.

I have no intentions on making this a flame war. I said my peice, and already tattled.

As I stated previously, other shirts which had "different execution of similar concepts" have been held up to Woot ridicule, this should be no different. Remember, as another poster always points out, Woot's mission statement is for "Unique, original designs and concepts".

As a Beef Eater, born and raised on a cattle ranch, I must concur with the sentiment that I would happily wear this. I personally am offended by veggies, since they are going out of their way to put my dad out of business.

Those three examples are not on point with this design. The USDA cow has been used as a frame for parody for decades. To chop down Cho on point you need to find one that is all cute text with no other line work. Study your Peter Max era stuff. You might find something. Or not. But the exercise will do you good.

Other designs have been rejected for less. The hockey playing moose from the Canada derby is an example. The moose looked about as similar as the two cows do, but the one Jaden did was rejected because it was the same thing "A moose playing hockey"

In this case you have two cows illustrating what parts of them equal what meat. It might be well done, but its not particularly original.

okay, if you people think this shirt should be rejected on the grounds that someone has already done something similar (but not the same!) to this shirt, then the two raven shirts should also be rejected along that same principal. they are both referencing the same thing and are pretty similar. the difference is in the execution. you can have the same idea but it's all about the execution!!

Sadly, it seems execution doesn't count as much as similarity in theme (so it seems). Which worries me, and makes me think this theme is just going to get crazy.

I dont care, im standing up for this kid. All he did was post that its similiar to a bunch of different shirts. This would be a REJECTION for anyone else. By putting the kid on probation you just prove him right

1 -Shirts have been rejected for having similar designs to something on WOOT, not necessarily on other sites.
2- This shirt is the only one to do text art with the different cuts of meat. The others mention cuts of meat, states of the union or neighborhoods in Brooklyn, but none were text art.
3- Samoa Joe was put on probation for trashing other people, not for having an opinion.

This is a handsome shirt. I have so many vegetarian and vegan sympathies, though, that some people* might think I'm wearing it in irony.

How often are shirts rejected because Joe Poster says something? Not often, right? So rather than proposing or defending or debating rejection (which is out of our hands), why not propose or defend or debate voting for the shirts?

This is so reasonable that countless casual posters* have proposed it before, right? And it never changes anything?

Actually, there have been several shirts that have been rejected for being similar to shirts on other sites. It's not just on woot.

That said, I believe that the execution of this shirt is definitely different enough. I don't know why Cho bothered to mention those other shirts himself, because they're not very similar beyond the idea of "cow = food."

That guy who was making all the fuss clearly had a personal vendetta against Cho. He also commented on the pi pie shirt and said it was the same as one where the pi symbol was made to look like an apple core, on the basis that both had the concept of "pi = food." The argument against that shirt is even weaker than the argument against this one, in my opinion.

I'm new to woot, so someone may have already suggested this, but why don't they just keep the designer names hidden until voting closes for that paticular derby? Then favortism wouldn't even have a chance in effecting votes or rejections. It would be totally about the shirts.

If designer names have something to do with the vote numbers, hiding usernames will do little to solve it unless you also ban all the entrants from advertising their work in their signatures. It might get fairly obvious when one person is going around the forums asking for votes.

I don't think the usernames have much to do with it. There are, of course, a few people out there who WON'T vote for a shirt if it's by a particular designer, and here are probably some out there who vote for a designer regardless of quality, but most people will come to this page, vote for some cool stuff and then leave. Most people wouldn't even know that there's all this drama and controversy going on in the comments. =P

My husband has been a meat manager (fancy for butcher) for many years! There is no way I couldn't get this one for him.

Similar to other designs or not, I like this one and would get it.

I'm a butcher, and this shirt is awesome. I'd wear it all the time. You do an awesome job.
