Rejected because: No more Pac-Man. Ever.

Going a bit overboard there, methinks. Not even the best shirt in this particular derby so far.
Re: Wakka-wakka!
I love this shirt, but I think there's some sort of license infringement here.
I'd buy one. No copyright infringement was intended. It's a parody.
Re: Wakka-wakka!
This isn't a parody. A parody somehow makes fun of something. This is attempting to profit from pac man.
rather pathetic actually.

I agree that this isn't parody. Is pacman in the public domain? I recall a shirt with pumpking pacman and a ghost - would that have counted as parody?
Re: Wakka-wakka!
no more pacman shirts plz ![]()
Re: Wakka-wakka!
Is this really even parody? If so can someone explain to me why? I don't get it.
Re: Wakka-wakka!
No, this is not parody. Not even close.

Pacman, or at least the name, is indeed in the public domain. Any company has the right to name a game or anything Pacman.
The design of characters and gameplay however, I am not sure. But I believe they are in the public domain as well.

I'm pretty sure that the original Pac Man game is still licensed and copyrighted by Namco. There may be freely available clones and such, but not for profit unless licensed by Namco. However, I am 100% sure this design is intended to profit from copyrighted characters that the designer does not hold license to use.
You can still even buy recent versions of the game from Namco.

If there is any doubt, toss it out. I made the fog... I'm happy.

You guys are so silly. Nobody said this was PacMan... This is WakMan.....
Geez, some people need to at least see the difference between the two... All I see is a pie graph trying to eat a lit bit of white dots....
I got rejected for having "another pac-man" shirt a couple derbies back, so I'm sure this one's faith will follow suit.
Re: Wakka-wakka!
cute... i thought about pac man but then i told myself noooo that will get rejected... Plus i'm sick of pac man... i do wanna win already but not at the cost of making my peers completely sick... ok maybe once hence the hoodie shirt. but please for the love of a higher being reject this shirt! sorry
Re: Wakka-wakka!
Oh pleeeze...how lame.
Re: Wakka-wakka!
Hmmmmm... I think this will likely get rejected... But until then- good luck...

Uh, hello... Pac Man? I'm pretty sure this has got to be copywritten or trademarked or something!
and pretty unoriginal really. who is voting for this?
Re: Wakka-wakka!
Okay, you know what? This shirt may be rejected at some point but I still LOVE it. There are a couple other similiar designs that were submitted (well, one parody) but this one is still the best. I mostly like that the words are whole and not cut off to accomodate the shape.
Re: Wakka-wakka!
So maybe it's copyright infringement. So maybe it isn't parody. So maybe there are enough Pacman shirts out there to make one giant Pacman shirt for the sun so it can dress as Pacman for Halloween.
But really, how can anyone repeatedly say the word "wakka" in their head and not feel some form of joy?
I know I laughed out loud. Besides, I don't have a Pacman shirt....

My daughter loves this shirt. I would guess, if it is still here, it has passed the Woot copyright infringement standards.

This isn't necessarily a safe guess. Generally speaking, rejections are VERY sparse until around Monday. This time, however, there were almost immediate rejections (I'm guessing it was the debut of a substitute rejectatron, but that isn't based on "evidence.") Woot is very careful about rejecting top designs, because they know the rejection will kill all chances. They oftentimes wait till they are absolutely sure of what they want to do.
In this case, I would guess that the temp rejector wasn't interested in making any rejections that called for serious judgement, and we haven't seen the rejectatron hit in full force yet. (Again, all conjecture, nothing based on facts.)

Joel's out of town until tomorrow...so that may be one reason there haven't been rejections in the past couple of days. Rejections of entries higher in the rankings may have to come from one of the heavy hitters.
But, you might be right about this being a parody...I'm not sure what the rules are regarding parodies.
edit: Looks like Bluchez and I were typing at the same time.
Re: Wakka-wakka!
that wuz teh funneh don't listen to them, it's obviously the sound a pac-man makes, and I think it's clever. Any gamer would laugh seeing this.

Uberbummer! This was the only good shirt in a really baaaaaaad contest idea!
hrsegal wrote:Uberbummer! This was the only good shirt in a really baaaaaaad contest idea!
I wouldn't go that far. There are way better and more creative designs out there than this one. This one is funny but if I wanted a pacman shirt there are tons of websites I can go to find one. I want shirts from here that are truly unique, not something that I might find from Hot Topic.
