Dragon's Gold
I took the advice of those that posted on this design earlier and worked on the background, which was black and a little to rectangular -- at least in the shirt comp -- for those that spoke up. Thanks for the comments -- I agree it works better as a shirt now.
So does anyone have a vote for a dragon?

really evocative.
Re: Dragon's Gold
It's much better now! Great job and GMV.

Ah, good. Thanks artulo. It looked awfully bare with nothing, but it didn't have to be what it was.

Is the brown background around the dragon supposed to be different from the colour of the shirt? Because I can see the difference, but it's so slight that it seems to me that the intention was to let the shirt show through.
Still a wonderful image. I tried to do a dragon last night. Not skilled enough.

Wow, what an improvement from the earlier submission! Excellent work, and GMV.

Thanks! As far as the "background" brown goes, it's supposed to be close to the shirt color -- just enough to keep the dragon in place.
Re: Dragon's Gold
I'm a geek, so dragons == awesome.
/gmv
Yeah, mythological beasties are my hobby, so I was sorry to see this one disappear earlier. Glad it's back! GMV again & hoping it wins so I can share it with friends.

MUCH BETTER!
Great work!
Re: Dragon's Gold
MUCH better, GMV

“Fog” would have been a nice atmosphere. :-) I’m not complaining though -- I’m pretty happy just to have worked out a dragon. I’ve tried to draw dragons before, but this is the first that I liked enough to finish, even though it made for a long night. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks, and thanks for the vote! Concentrating on the dragon, I guess I let the background get away from be before. I’m glad you like the fix.
very cool. got my vote. good luck!
I noticed bluchez's request for sources on dragon entries in one of the other entry threads. I figure they're all personal interpretations, but I guess I just feel like sharing about mine.... I've tried to draw dragons for a couple past derbies, but couldn't make it work. When this derby was announced, I decided that was going to be the day I actually finished a dragon. I looked dragons up online and pretty much found they can look like anything from a bird to a snake, 4 legs, 2 legs, feathery, scaley, spikey, with or without head plates/spikes, bat wings, bird wings, beak nose, lizard nose.... really pretty much anything goes. In the end, there was nothing I found to use as a "reference" from which to draw my dragon, but a lot of ideas for what could be included. My sister (who's into such things) said she liked the skinny-head/long-nosed type with crests and spikes on the back, which was a good enough starting point for me. You can see some of the work-in-progress above starting with the sketch I settled on and including my first (failed) attempt at the head. I basically painted the whole thing in PhotoShop not knowing if I'd try to make a line drawing of it or just go with the spot colors when I was done. Just the painting turned out to be challenge enough -- by the time the derby opened, going with spot colors was the best I could do. People weren't digging the original background, so I took it down, took a nap, and resubmitted in the evening, sans archway background.
Like I said earlier, it may not be seeing the fog, but I'm really happy to have just gotten a dragon to look right (to me at any rate) and I really appreciate the votes it's getting. Of course there are things I'd do differently "next time"....
Anyhow, that's my story. If the end result is working for you, I appreciate the vote!

Thanks for the info. Good looking dragon. You can see a bit longer thanks under spryte's entry, but it was meant for both of you.
Re: Dragon's Gold
Most of it looks awesome but why is he setting his own foot on fire? That kind of ruins it for me.

heh. Note to self: jarjarbinks only votes for dragons that aren't setting their own foot on fire. ;)
