Re: In honor of my Mom

I wanted to make a shirt in honor of my mother. My mother battled breast cancer for 10 years. It is in her memory that I have made this shirt. I would love to help call attention to an important cause that affects so many people (and for many of us our mothers). I will be donating every dollar that this design earns to the American Cancer Society and would urge all of you to donate as well.

Nicely done Bluchez and I love the idea of allowing woot to donate the funds to the ACS. My mom just started chemo two weeks for a rare form of breast-cancer that is agressive and fast-growing. I plan to create paintings on behalf of the ACS as well.

Hope the design does well for you and helps bring awareness to a very special cause.

So as sweet and meaningful as some may find this shirt... I hope it doesn't win. There is no creativity here. We buy shirts on woot to buy something that we can't find in other places... which seems pointless here since I could get the gist of this shirt by looking at the back of any SUV. Don't vote just because someone was smart enough to exploit your emotions.

I highly doubt he wanted to exploit our emotions, and there is nothing wrong with a shirt winning because of a simple design with a good thought.

Heheh. I knew I liked you for some reason, Bluchez. Check out my shirt. I also created one in memory of my mother, who died of breast cancer. I too will be donating the profits from my shirt (if any) to a cancer charity.

OK, I thought it might take a bit more time to catch some hate, but I guess I was wrong. You have no idea how many tears I shed creating this design while thinking of my mom. You are correct, in that there are literally thousands of shirts with a pink ribbon on them, and if woot would like to reject my design, I will not complain at all. I did look through many many many designs, and thought this one was unique and more wearable than most. However, for ME, this design is about my mother and was meant to honor her memory by bringing some extra attention to it. That is my purpose here, not exploiting emotions for the benefit of a charity.

I appreciate that your first post was used in such a meaningful way.

Thank you everyone else for your kind words, and I am very sad to hear that about your mother kls. It takes a lot of strength to fight, and I hope that you and your family can help her provide her with it. I would also like to thank anyone else for nice comments in advance, as I will not likely be reading this thread.

While the pink ribbon is prolific, the placement of this one is awesome. Well done!

As for the haters.... one of the huge drawbacks about "socializing" on the internet is the fact that we don't know we are in the midst of some really creepy people sometimes.

Are you kidding? The internet is full of creepy people, and nobody should forget that.

Well done, bluchez, well done.

Oh man... that's horrible. I didn't realize that so many of us shirt designers had to face or are now facing cancer in their families. My heart goes out to you, KLS. You can see my own cancer story on my shirt's page.

Yikes! This one got rejected! And fast! Man that vacuums.

If you'd still like to buy a shirt whose profits will go to a cancer charity, please check out my shirt (link in sig). Thanks.

While I would have liked to donate $1000+, I will be donating a decent amount in any case. I would love it if anyone else can help me reach the $1000 that I had hoped.

Good luck everyone.

Re: In honor of my Mom

a beautiful sentiment, and I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you can find a different design to honor your mother other than the pink ribbon. Honestly, the pink ribbon is a total turnoff to me, as it is *everywhere* to the point that it seems to have lost its meaning. When I found the pink ribbon on my dog's tennis orbs, soup, and frozen potatoes, I got fed up.

I'm sorry if the negative comments upset you, but I hope that you will remember how much negative comments hurt before you leave any in the future. On entries done by 10 year olds or anyone else.

& the Gaggle of Girls; so many shirts, so little space in the dresser!

So sorry to hear about your mom.
