Re: Mother and Child in Chairs

A design of a mother sitting in a chair holding her newborn baby. The first chair that holds the mother and baby is the traditional wooden rocking chair that my mom used with me and then I used with my daughter. My daughter was born in the summer, so I included a wicker garden chair which my mom used to hold my daughter for the first time. I also included elements of a recliner chair to represent the first time my mom's mom held my daughter. In this way, I wanted the design to embody 3 generations of motherly love shown to a newborn via the chair in which they sat. Design details have an element of Mother nature to them...clouds, earth, water, grass among others. Additionally, a halo and crown adorn the top to show the mother as angelic (like the Virgin Mother) and as the queen or family matriarch. Thank you for your vote.

This shouldn't be on a t-shirt. This should be in an art gallery.

Seriously kls, you're too good.

Thanks for the comments! This is the first time that I've entered this style in the derby. I did a mermaid design for the water derby, but it wasn't quite as abstract. I wasn't sure how this one would do vote-wise. I'm glad to see it getting a little love. Thanks!!

this is gorgeous. I love it and want to buy several, I want to wear one, and then 2 to make into pillows for my own grandmothers, who are still living. We've been able to take pictures of 4 generations of women/girls!

love it, you have such a great eye for design!

Thanks Mia! We have a wonderful 4 generations picture too. I'm so glad we were able to all pose for it.

Thanks to 2th and Peppers also.

Thanks Suzy! That's a very nice thing to say. The cubist one is losing ground. I thought it might be too much for the derby. I'm still going to stay optimistic though. I'd love to see it go over well with the voters.

And I thought it would go the other way, so it just goes to show that I should not be a mindreader.

I think it would be the best thing ever to have this shirt printed. Quite possibly the best design I've seen in my short time on woot.

Canvas? I'd Like to have one. Cards? I would definitely get some. Where else can we put this work?

MJC - You are too funny! Thanks for the nice post! You've made my day! I'd love to have it stay in the top 10, but it's just barely hanging on. I knew it was a risk and I certainly don't think it was a waste of time to put the effort into this one. Hopefully, I'll be able to do something with the design another time.

Thanks again!
(Still thinking of something great for a red shirt..... one of these derbies, I promise!)

And thank you, K. Don't get too distracted by the red shirt request. DH Really liked the Chuck Norris shirt, and that is just not your style. (And that's a good thing!)

I don't really care for the explanation as it's just too involved to have to think about. Plus some other feelings I won't write here as I'm sure people will care less about them than the first one.

However, it's a kick-a work of art -- reminds me a bit of Elliot Hubbard -- that really stands on its own without the explanation. Thus, I give it my vote.

Good job!

Thanks Yeeter and arylkin. I was trying to do something that fit the Motherhood theme without too much mom and baby.

Hey IByron! Nice to see you on shirt.woot. Glad you like the design. I thought the explanation helped people see what was going on with the design. But, I know what you mean. You don't have to understand art to know if you like it or not. Heck....I read the descriptions for a lot of Dali's works and I'm still confused.

Thanks for the newest votes everybody!

Too bad there's so much crap between this and the fog. I'd love to buy one for my wife for Mother's Day.

Just brilliant.

Thanks Joe! I'll try putting it up on DBH or in my cafepress store in 60 days. I hadn't submitted this style to a derby before because I had a few designs like this submitted as a daily. But, none were selected, so I figured I'd try one as a derby design. I really enjoyed the Motherhood theme....even though it doesn't seem to have resonated as well with the voters, I enjoyed the theme.

Thanks to 2th too for leaving a comment!

Re: Mother and Child in Chairs

It’s good to see you submitting more of this type of work kls, and good to see art can make a top 10 finish in a derby like this where pretty much anything goes. Your music design for the line art derby is still one of my favorites – I wished that one had done better. Btw, I followed a link from one of your posts last week and eventually found my way to your prints page showing more of your cubist work. Some good stuff there. I hope you’ll continue to develop the style for shirts.

Thanks RedGhia! Glad you like the style and thanks for linking to one of my pages. That's an old link. Didn't know it was still active. I used to print my own prints with an archival ink printer. I still do a few occasionally, but I usually allow a 3rd party to print them.

I will definitely continue to work on this style to make it more suitable for a shirt. It's all trial and error, but I enjoy learning what works and doesn't work with the voters. I'm very pleased that this held onto a spot in the top 10.

edit: I just added the music entry to my cafepress store. I changed it slightly. Let me know what you think. It's listed under art-based designs.

I really like the 2-color version (lower half of the page) and especially on the off-white shown on the framed tile. Thanks for posting the link. I'll come back for something -- somehow the design just really works for me.

Thanks RG! The tiles print beautifully. I bought several framed tiles as gifts and they turned out great. I haven't purchased the music one yet, but I would imagine that it would print well.

Glad you like the design. Thanks for taking a look at the new shop.
