A lot of people don't like text in designs, but I for one don't think it detracts from the design at all. (So whatever you think is best is what I'd stick with) Great artwork as usual. What program(s) do you use because your designs are so detailed. I'm amazed you can do this level of artwork.

I always hand draw my designs first with a pencil on paper and then I ink the pencil work on a new sheet of paper. after that I scan the line art into the computer and live trace it in illustrator. this makes it vector based so that I can make it any size i want without destroying the resolution. once I have the line art in illustrator I export it to flash or photoshop for coloring, flash is nice because it keeps your work vectorized but it can sometimes be weird and change your coloring when you export the file back to illustrator. this design was colored in flash and illustrator.

way to go, dsladek! I have a feeling Attila's kiddo will be hard pressed to beat this on mother's day.

With or without the text, I can totally relate to this design. It's also balanced, detailed, and generally cool. I'd wear it happily.

That's awesome, thanks. I've had trouble using live trace with illustrator for some reason. My resub this week I just redrew the entire thing in illustrator and it came out pretty decent. Never thought about using flash to color the pictures with (i've been using photoshop) but it makes sense to keep the image vector-based. Just really getting into this t-shirt thing and I absolutely love the detail in your designs. Keep the good work coming because I love seeing your submissions. Also, good artwork = good t shirt... keep the faith, even if woot members pass on your designs (because I love them).

Dsladek- You have 24 hours from the time you submitted a design to remove it. In your case, you may be splitting votes by submitting two versions of the same design. If I were you, I'd keep the first one (with the text). This is how you envisioned the design and I think you should stick with your gut instinct. It's doing well with the voters too.

Good luck. Great work!

I absolutely love this. I would wear it with or without the text, but as a mother, I like the text better because it makes a clear (and funny!) statement. Someone who is not a mother might prefer it without the text. Posting it both ways was a good idea and it will be fun to see which one prevails. I hope one of them makes it to the top three!

The name makes it more understandable. Otherwise it's just some old lady with a thing for barbarian ears. And an inside joke for wooters.

Alright guys I decided to take down the other submission. I went with my gut on this one. I think I was splitting the votes. Please vote vote vote! if you voted on the design without text and not this one please add your vote here. I hope that it can pick up enough speed to make it to the top. If this wins it would make a wonderful mothers day gift. I know i will be buying one for my own mom(if it gets printed)

thanks for all your awesome comments!

The text is what puts AttilaTheMom's name on it! And I like it better with - it adds humor to the design and defines it. I wouldn't really know what the picture was trying to say if I didn't read the words underneath. *Hmmm, tough lady dragging two costumed Sumo guys by the ear? What IS this?*

The text is necessary, IMHO.

Why don't you color your designs directly in the Illustrator?

I love this shirt! I actually think it's better than the winners of the 'motherhood' category. I just look at the winning shirts through RSS. Would someone mind telling me the process of who wins? Is it employees that choose the winners or normal people like myself? Sorry in advance for being misinformed.

EDIT: I didn't realize this is the general post for the category. This post applies to the 'Attila the Mom' shirt.

I'm afraid it isn't likely. Woot only prints the top three designs from each derby. Although they hold the rights to all submitted designs for 60 days, I don't think they've ever printed those shirts that don't place in the top three.

The best you can hope for is that it wins when woot does the do-over derby, or that dsladek decides to put it up after 60 days. Since it has a good chance in the do-over, he'll probably wait. This means that you'll probably have to wait until next Mother's day. Sorry!
