Re: bro-livia

In the early part of the 21st century, Bro's once roamed free through North America. Today, here in the 23rd century, the last remaining Bro's (also referred to as "D-Bags" in parts of the world), have been relegated to living in a small island community off the Bahamas, seperated from the rest of civilation. Visit them for a testosterone fueled island getaway of heavy drinking, steroid use, and frequent degredation of women.

If you are saying what I think you are saying, woot would reject this as being offensive.

Why would this be rejected?

Re: bro-livia

I acknowledge that I made this one, and I am biased, but there is no logical reason for rejection here. I would LOVE an explanation. Perhaps I misjudged my audience here....it appeared to me that this was a site kind of "by geeks, for geeks"....who would be AGAINST finding out these types of guys have left the civilized world and gone somewhere else (obviously less civilized...as they are).

This was such an oppurtunity to make a statement, to publicly humiliate the type of people who humiliate geeks every day.

But again, I must have misjudged my audience. The ONLY people who could be offended by this shirt are the people it depicted....I am not interested in submitting future designs to a website that is now defending jocks, bro's, and capybaras.

This audience member, at least, likes her shirts to not deliberately offend anyone. Woot follows the same guidelines. If you're going to have a small tantrum over a fair rejection, then maybe it's good that you're not interested in submitting future designs to a website that defends humanity.

Well, when I first read your description, I thought you were speaking of black guys (or "brothers," in my linguistic world). The picture, to me, also seems to depict a guy with darker skin. Likewise, your suggestion that their land is a Caribbean island (which are traditionally populated by people with darker skin) adds to this impression. So, as a potentially racist shirt, I can see the rejection.

However, after reading this definition at Urban Dictionary I see that on the west coast (I'm in the midwest) this describes a specific kind of white guy (probably what I might refer to as "white trash").

So, while that may be what you're going for (which is still offensive, although likely less so to many people), I think many of us in the rest of the country would not interpret "bro" in the way you intend.

Ahh...thank you for this explanation. Being from the west coast, myself, I assumed everyone would get the joke, but I can see now that it may have simply been regional slang.

And for your own peace of mind, the slightly darker skin was meant to show the uber-tan most of these guys who wear pink shirts with popped collars and have the bicep tattoo sport.

My bad and apologies to anyone who took my design as rascist in any way. As a geeky white guy, it was only intended to mock the kind of guys I can't stand...the same type of guys I watched push a girl down at a bar two weeks ago.

Thanks again for clarifying why you think it offended people...I have been particularly heated over this, thinking wOOt is supporting that type of person.
