Re: Vitruvian Dragonfly

A Dragonfly drawing done in DaVinci's Vitruvian Man layout. Thank you to Public Domain Photos for the use of a dragonfly reference photo for wing detail. (PDPhoto.org.)

Re: Vitruvian Dragonfly

Thanks for the comments left on this one. I thought about using the cream colored shirt at first. (Too look like parchment.) But, I really liked the design on yellow. Glad folks like it.

I was amazed to see how closely the dragonfly head, primary and secondary wings lined up with DaVinci's Vitruvian man. The secondary wing is proportional to the elbow location of the man. Head and primary wings were very similar to the head and arms as well.

Thanks again for the votes!

Thanks Steve! It's funny. I didn't realize how much the face in the Vitruvian Dragonfly looked like a lion until after I posted the image. It was supposed to be a face ....like the Vitruvian Man....but it almost looks like a lion. Thanks for the comment and the vote!

Just a quick note of thanks for the votes on this one!

Good luck foggers and nearby contenders!! Wonder if the next 18 hours will cause any sort of stir with the fog?

I predict that fable's pet bee and my honeycombs will switch places a few more times. The other three in the fog are most likely firmly set to print.

I'm not too fond of the bees right now. Not because of the artwork....but because I was JUST stung by wasps! The "buggers" were building a nest right below the railing of our deck. Leaned my hip right alongside it. Darn thing! Gonna have to zap it before the nest gets any bigger.

Still good luck to you and to Fable's bees. But....got little love for the stinging bugs right now.

Bees are less apt to sting than wasps. If I remember correctly, wasps are able to sting multiple times while bees will die from the first one.

Hey, on this dragonfly design, you said you used a reference photo for wing detail. Did you also use that photo for the linework on the body? It's pretty intricate as well.

I tried. But, it wasn't a good angle. I had to just guess on some of that. It's certainly not 100% accurate, but I like how it turned out. I was amazed at how some of the angles worked with the actual Vitruvian Man pose. There were quite a few similarities.

Good luck in the last few hours with your bee design.

Oh...and I think you're right about the hornets/wasps vs. bees. I'm just glad to get the nest removed from the railing before it gets any larger. No need for any of us to get stung again!
