Re: Blood Moon

A lone wolf stands on a cliff. Independent, he doesn't need a pack.

I came up with something for this derby after all. This is my first try at the negative space thing. It's a very simple design, but I like it. I was going to try adding some half-tone clouds or something, but I couldn't get it to look right... but simplicity is ok with me.

I chose red because I thought it was more interesting than the royal blue. My colour of choice would have been navy or black though. Because the design is mostly circular, I thought a centre placement would be more female friendly.

I hope you all like it.

Nice idea. Looks interesting on the red too. I think I'd like to see a little more definition on the wolf though, and perhaps a shrubbery.

You must bring us a shrubbery or else you will never pass through this wood alive!

One that looks nice. And not too expensive.

I like this shirt...cause I"m a big lover of wolves. Though red doesn't look good on me (I'm a redhead) And I think this shirt would do well as a black shirt too..

I'm sorry, I didn't realize it had to be on red, white, or blue shirt It looks nice though. Wish it could be on black..

Re: Blood Moon

@fablefire - I'm not very good with the details. Everything I do is always really... smooth. Maybe sometime this week I'll try putting in finer details with hair and whatnot, though it'll be more for practice than a late resub. Care to offer pointers? ^^ And it's a baren cliff or something. No shrubberies!

@noisdois - Thanks! And I'm guessing you got my PM, since the image in your sig is now linked. Your design is doing wonderfully. I can't help but think that the blurry comp might be hindering it a bit. I really admire your style, though I don't think I've seen you enter before.

@Schrobblehead - Oh oh. Ok fable and schrobble, this design has shrubbery in it. In fact, the design is OF shrubbery. That's not a wolf - that's a very smoothly cropped topiary shaped like a wolf. Yes.

@Synelia - Yeah, I would have prefered black or navy. It was really a choice between red or blue though, and I thought red was more interesting. Glad you like it.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I only wish my wolf-drawing ability was a little better.

At first glance I wasn't crazy about the choice of red but I actually now prefer it over royal blue and white. I agree in that navy or black would have been cool but the red is quite striking with this design and makes it unique. This is one of my favorites in the derby so far so the best of luck to you. You gmv for sure.

That's old school!!

I'm a redhead...we can wear red, pink, and orange (and I think green looks awesome on us too)!

Well then you shall have to fetch a herring, and cut down the largest tree in the forest!

A good reference will help a lot with details. Google image is your friend. As for the technical side, it depends on what software you're using.

Yes, I did get your PM, thanks. This is the first time I've submitted so it's been tricky getting everything together the way I'd like. I think I've solved the problem with the artifacts for next time though. I really appreciate your help!

Re: Blood Moon

@Silverpsycho - Thanks for the compliment. I haven't seen a royal blue shirt in person yet, so I didn't know if it would be dark enough to look like night. I figured it would be better to twist the concept a bit than go the regular route.

@dmkooo - I don't think hair colour should be a factor in shirt colour preference. Don't let the world tell you what you can and cannot wear! Be independent in your fashion choices!

@fablefire - I'm using Photoshop. I have Illustrator as well, but I haven't spent any time in it at all. I don't know why I bought the full CS3 suite when I only use Photoshop. The plan to learn is not happening...

I look for references all over the place. The problem is transferring from reference to sketch and finished design. I looked at a bunch of wolf photos to try to get a good shape, though I think it's still a bit off. I hope my artistry improves with time and practice.

@noisdois - I responded to your PM, though it looks like you've figured out your problem on your own. I really like your new submission as well - I think you'll be a solid contender in future derbies.

Thanks for the comments everyone!
