Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Great choice of greens in the design.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Nice one this week tg!
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
The bottle is a touch too thin, but I do love the use of the Coca-Cola green. In for 1!
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Beautiful TG! Didn't notice the eyes on the hummingbird at first. Cute addition of the 'wild eyes'.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
This is just beautiful
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
I think the coke bottle shape is trademarked. might get rejectionated but GMV right now
the eyes make the shirt as good as it is.
daddax wrote:I think the coke bottle shape is trademarked. might get rejectionated but GMV right now
Like someone said it's slimmer and also has different labeling. And it probably falls under parody anyway. If it gets rejected I'll resubmit, but it looks much better with the curvy bottle I think.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
ya, the "eye" has it : ) so pretty and just love the look on his face.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
That is awesome! I love the mix of greens as well.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Great colors. A hummingbird would be a welcome entry to pantheon of woot! animals...
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
this is a great combination of funny & cute with beautiful and well-drawn. definitely gmv, hope it stays in the fog!
daddax wrote:I think the coke bottle shape is trademarked. might get rejectionated but GMV right now
yes it is, they cant print this or risk being sued.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
I can't help but think that this idea has already been done in official advertising and it is definitely not the first time I've seen a hummingbird drinking cola from a bottle. The artwork is very well done though.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Excellent design.
Yet, I can't help but thinking that when all that caffeine gets into that little bird's system, he's going to end up being the first hummingbird to orbit the earth.
GMV.

I looked for quite a while and couldn't find anything similar. If you know of something, by all means post it.
Edit: After thinking it over, I think it's highly unlikely a soda company would use a hummingbird (let alone a tweaking hummingbird) drinking their product in an advertisement.

GMV.
I love the artwork, no doubt about it there, it's just that this actually signifies death to me, since the caffeine would kill the hummingbird. So instead of being cute and funny, this one is just sad. Not the reaction you were expecting, I'm sure.
Don't take this as being the usual "attack the cho/gentry artwork" please!
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Since I'm sure this bottle shape has been tattled on tenfold and I'm leaving town for the weekend, I'll post why I believe it shouldn't be rejected:
This shirt falls under parody as it is commenting on the (likely unhealthy) sugar rush gained from sodas, much like Fivebucks Coffee used the Starbucks logo to comment on how expensive Starbucks is (but with an even smaller appropriation of corporate branding) . I'm not just putting a coke bottle on a shirt and trying to make money off it. Likewise Coca-cola would not use a tweaking hummingbird as an advertisement as it would reflect poorly on them. If it was just a regular hummingbird without that reaction I could see it falling short of commentary, and therefore not meeting the needs of parody. If woot disagrees then I already have another version up, but I much prefer this one.
Everyone have a great 4th of July weekend. See you all on Sun. night.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Is this on asphalt or navy?
Love the concept, but I can't wear asphalt - it makes me look ill.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
This is awesome. Love the bird's eye and surrounding area. It really pushes the design over the top!
tgentry wrote:Like someone said it's slimmer and also has different labeling. And it probably falls under parody anyway. If it gets rejected I'll resubmit, but it looks much better with the curvy bottle I think.
I hope this doesn't get rejected, it shouldn't, coke bottles look a little different. Kind of silly anyways how a bottle can be trademarked... but whatever.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Nice color choice all around, but not a design I'd ever wear. Just a tad too (and this isn't the right word, but I don't have a better one atm) silly for my tastes.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Does any Woot artist draw and utilize eyes better than tgentry (this, the rhinocerous, the grumpy bear)? I say no.
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Nectar of the Gods?
That's not a Dr Pepper can!

llo...
great design, as usual....the eyes are amazing, but i think the colors are the best part...hopefully the bottle's not copyrighted, and if it is, i think they might have rejected it by now anyway...
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Very swank, Tgent. Wish there was room for a little more colour in the hummingbird, but still, very swank
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
great design, tgentry
i have never received more compliments on a tshirt
than when i wear the suburban blitzkrieg
it was the perfect july 4th shirt

Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Do they like Pepsi or Coke more jk nice work
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Beautiful detail as always. I enjoy the color choices too.

even if the actual coke bottle is, this isn't it. from a cursory look at wiki, the actual coke bottle has a wider base and a narrower mid-section, whereas this bottle seems to have a wider mid-section. wiki goes on to say that a bottle more resembling tgent's was thought about at one point, but having the mid-section wider than the base made it unstable on a conveyor belt. it's just wikipedia... so take from that what you will...

Stop commenting and buy something!
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
Whoa... I can't believe this is out of the fog. I thought it looked pretty strong from the hotness before... I guess things were happening all those hours I was offline.
Eh, since I'm commenting anyway, I'll chime in on the copyright discussion. This bottle doesn't look like a coke bottle to me. It's certainly similar with the curves, but I can't see it being rejectable. And I'm not sure about this, but didn't Coke copyright the bottle AND the red colour together? I recall it being mentioned in a rejection during the Summer derby (I think).
I think I would have liked a Coke-style label on the bottle marking it as ambrosia, but I'm guessing most people would prefer it without the text. Great design tgentry - as always! ![]()
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
I really hope this makes it back up into the fog and gets printed. I absolutely LOVE it and will be extremely sad if I can't get it! Good Luck tgentry!... and great design!
This shirt has got to get back into the fog! It's one of the rare woot tees that I would actually buy!
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
i will buy this shirt
Another great design... of course. Suburban Blitzkrieg was my first Woot.shirt. Makes me smile
And I don't even like Coke!
Re: The Nectar of the Gods
This would've made an excellent print. Such a shame.
