Re: Chasing Windmills
Toe! Love this! Makes me think of the style of artwork Trader Joe's uses on their labels. Love the thick lines and the motion you achieved. Love the neutral shades too!

thanks so much! i tried out this style in the last derby and wanted to try it again. if it's successful i'll keep using it when appropriate.
Re: Chasing Windmills
I really like this design, hope it can stay in the fog. GMV

feel the power!

I'll have to look back to see last derby's entry. I've cut a couple of TJ's labels from their seed and nut bags. I keep telling myself to try doing a derby entry in that thick-lined woodcut style. I'm playing around with a few brushes in ArtRage to do a daily. Maybe I'll try to do one for a derby too.
Did you sketch this directly on the screen with a tablet, or did you sketch it on paper first. I still feel more comfortable with pen and paper, but I'm trying to get used to the tablet too.

Back in the fog, hope it can stay there. Keep voting
Re: Chasing Windmills
Toe, This design is awesome! Out of all the designs so far, this is the only one I have voted for. I would love to wear this shirt! Good luck in this derby and may the wind always be at your back!

Re: Chasing Windmills
Great on a several levels. My husband is Dutch; nice painterly allusion to Van Gogh; and the whole notion of tilting at windmills is pretty much what my husband does for a living.
Enough about us. I like your take on the theme and the rendering and colour scheme are so refreshing (i.e. a nice departure from the kid-cartoon stuff that Wooters seem to love). Fingers crossed.

thank you very much.
Re: Chasing Windmills
Wow. This is really stunning. That is a masterful use of shirt color in the blades of the windmill. Wow!

wow, thanks so much. i considered putting a little Don Quixote over to the right but decided that would shift the concept too much from energy. it really makes me happy that you enjoy this design.
I love the windmill done in a Van Gogh style. Very appropriate! These two latest derbies have seen my favorite shirts in the top four (at the time of this post... knock on wood).
You should be proud, it's great work. I just finished lobbying some friends on Facebook to vote for this. I know they'll like it and we've GOT to get this printed!
Re: Chasing Windmills
I clicked on the thumbnail and it blew my mind. Toe, this is incredibly awesome. The style, the composition, the energy/movement, the colors, the concept. Truly wearable art. Gorgeous!
Re: Chasing Windmills
these colors will print very nicely.

thank you so much! i came very close to scrapping this design last night, but i got up this morning and ended up reworking about half of it.
Beautiful design, very artistic, but I really can't see myself wearing it.
Did not GMV, but I may change that over the course of the week, and even if I don't and it wins I may buy one if nothing else I do vote for makes it in.
Great job, though, on the artwork. I am impressed.
Re: Chasing Windmills
This is very impressive artwork. This could be a lovely painting to display.

Re: Chasing Windmills
Is the title of this entry a Toad the Wet Sprocket reference?
If so, that's awesome.
If not, that's still awesome. GMV.

Re: Chasing Windmills
I'm pretty sure this shirt will win, even though im probably not going to buy it or vote for it.

This is cool and I know some people that would love it
Re: Chasing Windmills
Beautiful, I love the woodcut look of it. Deserves to be printed.
Re: Chasing Windmills
This is a great design, but I haven't seen it on the hotness list in a while. I'm afraid it might be slipping out of the fog. Keep the votes coming.

Thanks very much! i thought Edgar and Tgentry were ahead of me so i'm surprised it hasn't already.

My personal favorite in the derby, unfortunately that means that it won't win.

This is fantastic! The style is a nice change from the regular woot style, and I love the colors.

Re: Chasing Windmills
I never wanted a brown t-shirt... until now.
2thFairy wrote:I never wanted a brown t-shirt... until now.
brown is the new black.. it's what all the hep cats and chicks are wearing.
toe2254 wrote:wow, thanks so much. i considered putting a little Don Quixote over to the right but decided that would shift the concept too much from energy. it really makes me happy that you enjoy this design.
AHHH! I want don Quixote!!!
The use of negative space here is what sells it for my detail-oriented eye. Beautiful... unfortunately brown shirts do not suit my skin tone, but it still will GMV.
narkus wrote:way cool! I love Toad, listen to 'em all the time : ) don't know anyone else who does
I do! Love the Toad!
Love the shirt. I will buy it for a friend who fancies himself to be like Don Quixote.
Re: Chasing Windmills
Great work, toe! Those colors are popping and I love the chunky and loose linework.
tgentry wrote:Great work, toe! Those colors are popping and I love the chunky and loose linework.
thanks t! my wife really wanted the hummingbird design so we were both disappointed to see it drop out of the fog.

ikay, just a few more minutes and this derby will be over and can i just say,, Thank God! this has been one of the most nerve wracking weeks of my life. for those designers who haven't been in the fog yet let me tell ya, it's not all beer and roses.
i'd like to thank everyone who voted for this design, especially curb1510 who lobbied to get others to vote. i'd also like to thank everyone who commented (i know i've missed a few individually) it made it all worth it to know so many liked the design so much. for those who said they can't wear brown, i apologize.. brown just seemed to call out to me on this one. i tried it on navy with blues and it just didn't feel right.
i'd like to congratulate the other foggers, and those that made the BLAs, good work folks!. there were a lot of great designs this week and i wish woot would print more than just 3 per derby, but hey, them's the rules.
thanks again to everyone and see you in the next derby!
