Very pretty. I like the three-paneled look as well... it reminds me of certain screens I've seen in the Met. Nice work. :-)
Re: Sakura
Pretty.
Looks great on the baby blue.
Re: Sakura
I had to vote for this because this is the exact idea I had for my dining room. I was going to paint cherry blossoms on three canvases just like this! XD If you put it on Cranberry I would have been crazy about it because my walls in there are similar to cranberry.
Re: Sakura
I saw the design and thought, "finally one that looks good" and then I saw the baby blue...........
Nice triptych. GMV
Re: Sakura
Didn't think anything would grab my interest in this derby...but I HAVE TO HAVE THIS!
Needless to say: GMV!
Re: Sakura
Geez. Could you possibly cut me some slack? Please?
I mean, first I bought 335 Woolloomoo Way. Then I bought Freebird. Now, tonight, my wife tells me that if this shirt wins and I don't buy it for her, I sleep in the garage.
Please design something ugly and unpopular next Derby. If you have difficulty with this, let me know, and I'll let you submit one of mine.
In the meantime, you've--once again--got our vote.
But please. Ugly it up next derby, okay?
You're killing me.

Ditto, I don't like it on baby blue, and imo, I've just never thought baby blue shirts looked good.
Re: Sakura
I can definetley see this one printing...has an okami vibe to it, so I'm interested - gmv
Re: Sakura
I think it would have worked a teeny bit better if it was inverted -- a baby blue background on a cream shirt instead. Great design anyway!
Re: Sakura
I just wish it where a cream background so I could where it with my dark brown cords. This is a beautiful design. gmv.
Re: Sakura
Sweet idea, panels are a fav. Not too crazy about the colours, but the designs nice.
Re: Sakura
I dont wanna be a jerk, but I count 7 colors. 3 pink, 1 background, and 3 black/gray... there are only like two squares of a middle gray, but may be enough to be rejected. really well done though.

I see what you're saying, but I think that those two "light gray" squares are actually the same color as the darker ones but look lighter because of jpg compression. Put the image into photoshop zoom in and you'll see what I mean... the cream color around the light gray pixels seems to be "bleeding in" because of compression.
Kdeuce, could you please post the image in a non-compressed format (and perhaps larger) so that we can see the colors more clearly? It's best to avoid rejection any way you can. :-)

or it could be what's called "simultaneous contrast" which is when a color looks lighter or darker than it actually is because of the lightness or darkness of the background.

I think that those pixels are a different color because they are the perfect size and one only touches the outside but a corner.
Circles show the deviant pixels

If that were true the edges of the tree would apear darke since the background is lighter as well as it would be consistant all along the tree (our eyes dont segrigate) but good thinking.

now that you circled them i think it's just a matter of the pixels being missed when the artist was possibly changing the color of the tree. it's obviously a minor error and not an intentional 7th color (i can't even see the difference but this monitor is rather dark). if woot rejects this design because of such a minor error that's easily fixed they may incite a riot.

Again I dont mean to come off as a jerk. Im trying to be helpful and give a heads up, thats all.

Hmm... I wasn't thinking about the squares that got circled there... I was thinking of the two squares in the far left panel at the bottom of the "blossoms." They seem to be a lighter gray than the rest of the gray boxes. But, as I said before, I think this is compression. If a non-compressed image could be posted that shows, clearly, what colors these pixels all are, I think that there would be no danger of rejection.

actually, i was too. but, like i said, if woot rejects this design because of such a minor error (which is clearly not intentional) there may be a riot. i understand the need for rejections since they don't screen entries like some other websites like DBH, but i would hope their sphincter isn't THAT puckered. (no offense)
Re: Sakura
Awesome Design! I'd like it even better on Cranberry though...
Re: Sakura
ok... i fixed the problem and did a resub. now i how do i take back this submission?

Why would there be compression in a theme where people individually placed their pixels? Seems incredibly suspect to me, insofar as anyone who hand-pixelled shouldn't have to worry about those little half-shade blocks showing up, what with picking their colors and all.

When converting any image to a jpeg, the program you use to convert the image will sometimes create compression artifacts, regardless of how uniform the colors are. This can be seen in the numerous red shirt designs that constantly wind up having compression artifacts in the areas that started out as just plain red areas.
I actually had the problem with my shirt, with compression artifacts appearing in the orange, but I managed to change the settings in my design program to produce better quality images (at the cost of larger file sizes, of course).

The other issue, of course, is that there appear to be 8 colours, not just the 7 we're debating:
This might effect the resub as well, since there was only talk of one extra color earlier.
As for the pixels, I really don't think it's a matter of compression so much as being an issue of a designer taking a full-on photo and not converting it as accurately as he'd planned. But I'm just an angry bitter cynic, so that presumption is based only on jealousy, not the designer's succession of silhouette work speaking to a possibility of serial "sourcing" in his art.
AdderXYU wrote:The other issue, of course, is that there appear to be 8 colours, not just the 7 we're debating:
Oh, man... Is this one really going to get rejected from the fog? Well, there's already a new submission up, and it's only Saturday.
You had me at hello with the design, but the color throws it all off for me, unless woot's baby blue is closer to the pale end of the spectrum. I personally would have thrown it onto a creme shirt. So, great design, I'll be rooting for it, but I probably won't buy.
Re: Sakura
i think this is a very tasteful design, but from my experience with woot printing, the actual shirt will very likely come out ugly with very thick and stiff ink similar to "the lady in the water."

is this guy for real?
This derby may very well go down as the ugliest derby ever...
kdeuce wrote:is this guy for real?
Sometimes.
If you haven't emailed woot yet, I would probably ask them about your entry. If the one in the fog is fine, you should ask them to delete the other one so there's no confusion among voters (you know, the kind who look at only the 50% images and such). Your votes might be splitting. If it's not fine, then you should get that one removed so people can focus on getting the resub in the fog.
EDIT: I just read in your other thread that you emailed already.
What's up woot?
This is going to suck if they reject the fogged one at the last minute and it loses due to vote splitting. >.<

Re: Sakura
Looks like the resub has been removed. Let's hope Woot allows this one to stay, then, 'cause I still like this design and would love to see it printed.

Whew! I'm glad that's finally all straightened out. If Joel removed the resub without taking down this one, that's kind of a signal that this one is okay, yes?
And look... now that there's room in the hotness my shirt is back in the hotness again. Yay! :-)
kdeuce wrote:is this guy for real?
You'll learn about Adder. He's spiteful and will comb the boards to glean every bit of information you post about yourself. Then if you butt heads with him about some little thing, he'll take those bits, twist them around, throw them in your face, and try to defeat you and set himself up as being better than you. It's just his way.
metalwolf wrote:i think this is a very tasteful design, but from my experience with woot printing, the actual shirt will very likely come out ugly with very thick and stiff ink similar to "the lady in the water."
Oh, you know, I think you may be right...I bought "Lady in the water" and the printing was so poor--it looked like something bought at a discount store. Not the design, mind you--the ink was misaligned, blotchy, and on a girly shirt it was so compressed and thick it was horrible.
Now that you point out the amount of ink in this design, I think this might turn out similar--which is a real bummer because I REALLY want it. It would work better printing-wise if the background of the triptych was the color of the shirt...
I'm still keeping it in my sig, though. :-)
Re: Sakura
Great design, the panel look makes the design for meh, just couldn't wear it on blue, maybe a cranberry
Re: Sakura
the cherry blossom idea crossed my mind at first too, but u did it way better than i ever could have
VOTE HERE!
Re: Sakura
Not a fan of the baby blue, but I sure like the 'spice' this adds to the derby. Mmm, cherry spice...
Ack! What happened?!?!?!
Less than a day ago, I was loving 3 out of 4 of the fog, and my pocketbook was cringing in anticipation...I go away to deal with crises, and now two of my favorites are unfogged! I might still get my Wright angle, though, so I'm trying not to be bent out of shape (ba-dum-BUMP!)...

Sorry to disappoint Invisible...but the (W)right Angle one had a tough go of it in the last few minutes of the derby. I think the derby winners will be the giraffe and Cheese's blue one.
The last 20 minutes made for another crazy derby ending.
Airchambz wrote:Great design, the panel look makes the design for meh, just couldn't wear it on blue, maybe a cranberry
My thought exactly.
Cranberry, and this would have been in the fog at the end, I'm certain.
