Re: Things are tough all over
So cool to see this back! Gotta get in touch with all those bio majors and get 'em to vote again!

Re: Things are tough all over
From original Energy thread:
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the universal unit of energy that is used by every living cell. This important molecule is produced and broken down for energy during metabolic processes in every living thing on the planet. Without it, no life can occur. Kinda vacuums that the price keeps going up...
I would love to see this place! gmv
Re: Things are tough all over
This is one of my favorite woot shirts ever. I hope this gets printed this time around. But I think it would be better and more relevant if the ATP sign was placed right by the mitochondria so it looks like the mitochondria is selling ATP to the organelles which are driving by to fuel up. Maybe Im just picky.

Thanks Boni! I haven't been able to really check out this derby because of a training thing at UT in Austin, so I appreciate you posting my old description.
You know you have the best job ever when you get paid to go play with Legos for a week. If any woot staff are paying attention, you guys really have to sell Lego's NXT Mindstorm kits...so much fun.

Hehe. Somebody said the same thing in the energy derby. Somebody else argued back that the cell was like a gas station and the mitochondria are the individual pumps. As long as you like it and voted, I'm happy. ![]()

Ah, I see your perspective... that's a good way at looking at it too. But then who would be the cars in that interpretation. ATP isn't transported intracellularly so the "cell gas stations" won't have any customers. BTW, what are you doing at UT Austin? Are you a student there?

You're welcome! Remembered you said you had to play with Lego this week and didn't know if you'd have access... and thought your description ought to be here. Glad you made it online... and into the hotness! There is hope for this shirt yet... (and still jealous about the Lego).

Your biology is stronger than mine! Hehe. No, I'm not a student there, I'm computer teacher in South Texas. There was a week long training seminar there given by DTEACh, which is a collaboration between UT and National Instruments. The point of the program is to show innovative ways to teach kids science and math concepts and engineering methods using Lego NXT robotics kits. The final product being a student interested enough in science and math to pursue careers in those areas which are in desperate need. It was pretty awesome program.
Nice! You cant ever be too old for Legos! or too young for that matter. I did something similar to this when I was younger. It was called FIRST robotics, where we made robots that would compete against each other. Good luck with the program.
Another bio major reporting for duty again!
And awesome about the Lego side conversation--my chidlhood dream was to be a lego set designer... I've given that up, but I still have all my Legos under my bed at home!

Thanks for coming back! I wonder if it would be too pushy to PM all the people who left comments last time. :P My brother wanted to be a Lego designer too! He was telling me that one of the tests is making a perfect sphere out of square Lego blocks. Don't know if that's true or not, but if it is jeeze...

Ha! I should attach a little LED display over the sign connected to a tiny keyboard that you can update with actual gas prices...the keys would be worn out in a week.
Never voted for a shirt before but I had to suport all the other Biology dorks like me. Hope this wins I REALLY want one.[

Thank you very much for the first-vote honor! Hope you get to buy it!

I want it too! If woot doesn't print it, I'll sent you a shirt and you can draw it with a sharpie!
It doesn't look like this is going to get printed, but remember, if you get this printed anywhere, please let me know! I'm in!
Re: Things are tough all over
*giggles* something any biology nerd can appreciate. Any chance you'll have this in print somewhere else besides woot? I'd love to buy this and walk in on my bio class. *giggles*
