Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
I think it's getting rejected because oxygen in its gas form is O2, which is actually a molecule. It's 2 oxygen atoms. That's pretty tough though.

Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
I don't know if anyone voted for this before it was rejected. If you did, please vote again.
If this needs to be rejected for some other reason, by all means reject away. Rejecting it based on oxygen not being an element confuses me. I'm no Bill Nye, but I'm pretty sure oxygen is an element. Looks like number 8 on my periodic table and has an atomic weight of 15.999.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
You get my vote just for the bogus rejection.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen
If they're rejecting it because of that, the hydrogen ones have to go too.... They'd be H2 also!
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
Oxygen radical maybe? That's just the nerd in me speaking.
Whew for the shirt!
Thanks to everyone for voting so far, and Hooray! for my first trip into the hotness.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
Good luck with the re-sub! Oxygen is indeed an element...
It does look like this might be too close to the seams though, I hope it doesn't get rejected for that.

Aw Jeez! I didn't even notice that. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Hey Woot Gods. Don't worry. It doesn't need to be close to the seam. I think it just looks that way due to image size reduction and whatnot. Thanks in advance for not rejecting.
how many colors does it use? are there less of the color bands on the actual shirt than are depicted in the larger picture?
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
"Rejected because: Not an element"
Thanks for the giggle woot.
Nice spectral, but the gray electron diagrams aren't doing it for me. They look kind of cluttered.

Thats ridiculous if they're rejecting it because it's a diatomic element. So what if it cant be stable with one? its still an element.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
Way to go, woot... a mistaken rejection took this entry from a likely-to-be-ignored bunch of lines and clutter of circles to the top of the hotness. i for one will be pretty stoked when this boots something way better from the fog.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
I will also vote based on bogus rejection.

Oh my goodness! I'm so honored. First I get into the hotness for the first time and now I have Adder grumbling about me. This is the happiest day of my wooting life. Awesome. Any publicity is good publicity. I guess.

I don't always agree with Adder's comments but he does have a point. Please don't vote just because this was wrongly rejected, it robs people the chance to get in the fog by normal means. And I believe the real reason this was rejected was because of the way you have the atoms placed, because they overlap and kinda look like you have some molecules/compounds which would not be a single element thus violating the derby rule.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
I don't understand anything about this design. Nope, not one thing...
Could someone please explain it to me? Inside joke?

The title is a reference to its earlier rejection. No offense littlejetties, but I really do think the rejection brought a lot of attention to your design that you wouldn't have had otherwise. Blessing in disguise?
As for the shirt itself, it depicts oxygen's emission spectrum with a backdrop of oxygen diagrams.

Ah, gotta love when politics get involved.

Right. I see how that interpretation of the rules can be reached when you consider the earlier rejection. But, by that rationale I think there would have to be rejections of most of the entries in this derby. Rusty iron involves iron oxide, bananas are made of more than a single potassium atom, neon signs glowing any color other than orange are not lit by neon, etc.
Thanks again to those that have voted. I appreciate it.
To the haters. Don't worry. I got a little bump from the rejection thing but it won't get printed.
Really love this shirt. This is the first shirt I feel like I've needed to comment my support of because I think it makes for a really cool abstract type shirt that is actually the scientific information of Oxygen. Just a cool thing to do. I don't quite get woot politics yet or anything but from what I've read people are being idiots. But oh well.
Great Shirt.

no way, this design is better than the ones in the fog. i love it!

huh. at first i wasn't sure if you were being serious or not, because frequently you comment that there are way better designs than the ones in the fog anyways...
tabrazinski wrote:huh. at first i wasn't sure if you were being serious or not, because frequently you comment that there are way better designs than the ones in the fog anyways...
The ones in the fog have a great design and look awesome, but i wouldn't wear any of them.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
O2 is still called elemental oxygen. It shouldn't be rejected on the basis that it's a molecule.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
I still dont get the allure... Sure i can see giving it a pity vote for the o2 rejection, but come on... it certainly doesn't warrant the attention its getting.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
The emissions spectrum is a nice touch and gives the shirt some color, but I think your shirt suffers the most from the poor placement of the electron diagrams. As someone else said, it is too cluttered in the corner, and although I know they are all oxygen atoms, you really can't tell what they all are when they are jumbled together like that. If you had the diagrams spaced out more than I think this design might fair better. Otherwise, it might look to some people like you just copied and pasted a bunch of different sized diagrams all over the place. Just my thought.
There's a couple better ones in the fog, yes. But there's a couple that aren't.
I would wear this shirt before I'd wear any of the ones in the fog.
I do have to agree that it's a bit too cluttered in the corner, but ah well. Nothing's perfect for everyone. I'm sure there's people out there that think it's not cluttered enough. ;)
It's a good solid original design, and takes a tack that none of the rest of the entries do(as far as I've seen). It stands out from the crowd on that alone.
Here's hoping that the 'editor' sees that and pushes the big 'print this' button he's got next to each entry. ;)
Love this shirt! Bogus rejection i hope it can bounce back. Great design man.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
I just want to say thanks to everyone who voted for this design. This has been my most successful submission yet and it's been a lot of fun. I was hoping to crack the top ten, but it looks like 11th place for me. I learn a little with each submission. I'll get in there eventually.
I love this shirt. Science can be stylish and subtle! It's a cool graphic and some nice science. Give the geek in your life something that is also kinda classy - not another Far Side or Dilbert cartoon.
Re: Oxygen: an element (I swear!)
I love the spectral lines, I wish the votes for this were higher!
