Re: Nitrogen: Cryogen

Fun facts about nitrogen:
It makes up almost 80% of our atmosphere
It is an essential part of amino acids and amino acids are essential to life, therefore, nitrogen is a VIE!
Colorless, odorless, and tasteless and is probably what whooshes out of your potato chip bag when you open it. Used in packaging to preserve freshness because it's oxygen that makes it go bad.
The most used element in cryogenics, liquid nitrogen boils at −196.5 °C and is really fun to dip stuff in!

If I had gotten this right sooner, would have added more roses and maybe a shattered one and designed it better to actually go on a shirt. Just happy I managed to kinda make it look frozen in only six colors! Thanks to Jaden for the suggestion that worked...

Thank you, and thanx again for your suggestion. Here's a bigger of the whole rose, I think it turned out very nicely. Jpeg messes up my nice clean line between the red and the green, but it's really pretty in the original. :-) Got rid of one shade of green to add the shadow... think with the color changes it all came together better to look frozen. Will have to remember how to do this for winter derbies!

you do that for the winter derbies with ANY plant idea, and I'm sure you'll get printed. Awesome job.

rofl... me getting printed... just think it's a fun way to make myself learn how to use the pale imitation of photoshop i have. The derby gives me a theme and a goal and I try to come up with some new effect to achieve within in the six color limit - like ice this time. I'm just happy if a few people tell me they like it.

Nice job, Boni. Your level of proficiency is rising - perhaps proportionately to the amount of time spent hunched over your tablet?

My first rejection
And the classic science class demo of a rose frozen in liquid nitrogen is considered to be off topic... I guess I should not have assumed that everyone would get the reference. I should have put a Dewar flask next to it with Warning: Liquid Nitrogen on the side or sumpin.

Maybe resubmit it with Nitrogen: It Freezes Stuff - Really
Sorry - rejection hurts - I know - I didn't read the rules until the 3rd entry I made! Hurts more when it's an apparent error. Maybe you should go buy that 3-pack of Riesling and drown your sorrows.

Sorry about the rejection. I just commented under the regular derby thread. I like the idea of saying Nitrogen: It freezes stuff....

frozen as depicted may not be enough, mabe resub with part of the rose shattered into tiny pieces like glass

Thanks... that's a little too much like saying I think he just didn't know what a cryogen was... don't want to piss off the rejectorator, right? :-)

I wish they could give a little bit more of an explanation when just off topic is not all that clear. I do still wish I had time to add a broken one, but my time is up for this derby. Thanx for the suggestion, tho!

nah... you could have placed it IN the flask like a vase, freezing as it came out of the top.

Don't be discouraged. I was upset the first time I got rejected. Happily though, my average of rejections to viable entries and such is very low.

So when's Joel going to admit he "goofed" up on this one too? My guess is never. BS rejection.

indeed. This was so simplistically pretty that it should have remained... he could have spent more quality time on other entries.

Not to mention that it actually was on topic...
