Re: Children of the Candy Corn

Well, I finally finished my entry. Never enough hours in the day. I'm starting to come to the conclusion that this game is best suited for the younger, retired, self-employed, and childless, which I am not. I'll keep trying though cuz I'm stubborn like that. Hopefully you like my design. If so, please consider voting for it. Perfect for Halloween! Thank you for your consideration and thanks to everyone who voted for my Carbon Footprint design last week. My 12th place finish was my best yet here, so your votes were very much appreciated. Take care.

Cute and Clever Earth! I love the contrast of colors. I wish it wasn't so perfectly squared off on the edges. I wonder if somehow incorporating the grass-colored shirt into blades of grass on the sides would help soften the edges a bit. Seems too sharp to me.

But, you'll still get my vote based on the concept and design. It's a great shirt for halloween!

Thank you bvillarreal and I'm happy to see your turtle design is doing so well. Top 10! That's awesome. Best of luck making it into the fog and thanks again.

Thank you mjc613 for your vote and great feedback. I almost didn't get the chance to finish it but am glad I finally found the time to do so. Better late than never. Thanks again.

Hello toe2254! Thank you for both your vote and feedback. For the record, I had read through the thread about the "controversy" with your smores design. Count me as one who sees no controversy whatsoever as your design is completely different from Jaden's design. I'm not really sure why it even became an issue and I'm glad you decided not to pull it (and rest assured I can almost guarantee that it will not be rejected). Best of luck with your designs and thanks again.

Thank you kls for the vote and feedback. I was troubled by the edges as well and couldn't figure a solution (until now of course--either what you suggested or reworking the candy corn so that the vanishing point is more centrally placed and the edge corn in the front row is left whole instead of being cut off). I don't think I'll fix it at this point but will definitely do something to it if I revisit the design. Thanks again for your insight and vote. Speaking of which, I only did some limited voting thus far and just finally checked your designs out--got my vote on both. They are both very cool (my favorite is cupcake platter). Best of luck!

Hi earthart - you did have time :o) Well done, funny & cute & just freaky enough! I like the solution of adjusting the vanishing point, keeping the front row whole (& maybe ending all the rows before they get cropped off) Don't know if staggering the edges or keeping in line with the vanishing pt. would look better? Anyway, nice job & gmv. Maybe this will have a quick ride to the top like some other later entries. Good luck!

Hello rachel1aaron, Thank you very much for your vote and feedback. I'd probably try staggering the edges. I initially had this set up with a central vanishing point but didn't like the way the corn looked. I hadn't thought out the effect changing it would have on the edges, and by the time I realized it I was so far into it I decided not to change it. Hopefully it doesn't affect me too badly. I would probably stagger the next row more than I did initially and that might fix the problems I was having with that setup, and then I would keep them in line with the vanishing point at the edges. I am just starting to write you a message. Probably will be a while, but hopefully you can check it out some time tomorrow. Thanks again for everything.

Hard to tell, I consider it more of a detail than anything. I personally like the offset v.p. because it leads your eye down the rows, rather than to an empty central location just below the chin(s). :o) And it is a pretty accurate view of a planted field as you drive past. I really like the grass edge, and the extra attention you paid to the clothing. The thumbnail is a real attention getter, also! :oP Ha!

Your children of the candy corn made it to the hotness! I can empathize with your time-constraints, me too! This is fun but time-consuming. I'm just happy to have done as well as I have, hope you make to the top!

Great point with the offset vp. That was one of the main sticking points I had with it when I initially had it set up that way. I'll play with it when I get to v2 at some point. I wasn't sure about the thumbnail at first, but am glad I did it. It's an homage to my two-year-old son who recently decided it would be a good idea to start picking his nose at the most inopportune times, such as at the last restaurant we ate at while the waiter was taking our order. He could have at least waited until dessert. Sorry.

Thank you for pointing that out. Ah, but it was all too brief. Already out of the hotness. Got knocked out by some "I love turtles" design! Just kidding (but it is true). Woot is loads of fun and I'll keep doing it as long as it remains fun (and I can find the time to make something). I doubt I'll be climbing too high with this being such a late submission and with the high number of excellent designs entered this week, but I'm glad I made this no matter what the outcome is. Otherwise it would have remained just another idea piling up in my brain. Thanks again and best of luck with your turtles.

Not bad, just needs a lot more depth. The rectangular feel to the shirt is not mathematical at all.

Thank you for your feedback. I tried going back further to give it more depth, but it started getting too messy. I could have changed the perspective, raising it a bit, and that would have helped to solve the depth issue. Best I could do with limited time this go around. Thanks again.

Thank you! I voted for your peeps shirt as well. I know you mentioned it was tough going in the derbies, but it seems a lot of folks do like your style. As I mentioned in my post in the peeps thread, it is a bit of a roller coaster here. Can't beat the price of admission though. Persevere, enjoy the ride, hope for the best, and, as I said, most importantly enjoy creating. Thanks again.
