I reserved my comment for this thread instead of the derby thread.
I am SO excited about this design. Not only does it have KLS involvement, but it is pink and orange (my favorite colors) - oh, with red a close third - AND there are hibiscus in it.
I can only hope that everyone else loves it as much as I do!!

klswoot wrote:Thanks Molli. I have to say Toe had 100% control over the coloring of the design and he did a fabulous job. I think he was able to get a retro-Hawaii feel with the colors. I was blown away when he sent the picture to me late last night.
In case it's not totally apparent, the Luau girl is resting on blades of grass like a grass skirt. She's wrapped in a Hawaiian dress and the backdrop is supposed to represent a large clamshell. Hibscus-esque petals were placed behind here almost to make her look like a fairy. There are other details as well, but probably don't need explanation.
Thanks again for the vote. I'm excited to see what Toe does with the other sketch. Can hardly wait!
Very unique. I knew right away that you had something to do with it KLS .. as soon as i saw the thumbnail. Good job both of you.
Re: Luau Girl
Wow, those colors are insane, and they go really well with the theme.
Re: Luau Girl
This is astounding. The color choices, the style, everything.
Very beautiful shirt. I can just sit here and be entertained by the lines and the colors. Job well done guys!
i love this one, i gmv at first glance i also am in love wiht the colors i hope this does well, GOOD LUCK!
Re: Luau Girl
Thanks for all the kind words everybody! (And the votes, of course!) I'm sure Toe will chime in when he gets back from work...but then he'll be working away at the other design.
We actually had a third one drawn out on paper, but I think we may save that one for a daily. It seemed more tropical than Luau. But, I'm seeing quite a few high-ranking designs that don't really seem to fit "at the luau" theme...so, maybe we could have pulled off the tropical one too.
Thanks again for the early votes!
Re: Luau Girl
This is simply gorgeous. Now I want to take a trip to Hawaii to wear it!!
Re: Luau Girl
Amazing. Its hard to believe you only have 6 colors in there! Great job! gmv
Re: Luau Girl
Wow wow wow!! This is fantastic. And from two of my favorite people, even!
Nice work, toe and kls!

Thank you everyone for the comments and the votes
Sorry for being so late with this and so short, but I'm kinda busy at the moment with a third design. It was a pleasure working with you too Kristen ![]()
Re: Luau Girl
kls, toe, great collaboration. GMV. Of your entries this week, this is my favorite (I like them all though and will vote). Best of luck. On a side note, I resubmitted my design and pulled the first entry...and then I read your comment in the thread. That's twice today! I've got a lot to learn about this woot business.

Ahhhh... earthart. I always seem to be just a tad too late when I reply to you. (Lost internet access for a short time due to Hurricane Hanna most likely.) Yes. I thought you were planning to keep both designs up for vote for a few hours to see which one garnered more votes. Some folks do that since you have 24 hours to pull one. But, you'll know this for next time, right?
Re: Luau Girl
Very colorful and pretty, love it. Hope it gets more votes. GMV

it is a tragedy that this has fallen so far when everything in the fog is blah, blah, blah, and blah.

klswoot wrote:I know this is a tough style to 'sell' and doesn't appeal to everyone either as art or as a tshirt design. But, I sketched this design because it expresses me through my art style and my feelings of the theme. I thank woot for creating the theme because it gave me a chance to sketch this design and work with Toe. I'm thrilled with how he colored it and I wouldn't change a thing. Regardless of rank or vote total, I'm pleased with the outcome and the response and I hope Toe is too!
So, too, for the 'Dancing in the Dark' design.
I'm hoping Toe will agree to take both designs to teefury. Perhaps we'd have a better chance there. We'll see what he wants to do when the 60 days are up.
Thanks again for supporting this design.
despite not being ranked higher than it is, i think this design has done extremely well. it's currently in the top 20 which is nothing to sneeze at. my philosophy has long been "expect the worst but hope for the best" when i comes to contests like the derby, so it's done far better than i expected, just not quite as well as i had hoped. however, it was both a joy and honor to participate in bringing this design to life, and that, more than how many votes it does or doesn't have was worth the experience.
as for its future, as far as i am concerned, this is your design Kristen and i leave it to you to decide its destiny. i will claim custody of Dancing in the Dark though.
i too thank everyone who supported this design.
I would LOVE to see this at T.F.! Or really anywhere else, for that matter. Kristen, if you and Toe decide to bring it somewhere else, please let me know!!
(Not that I am giving up hope, yet... but just in case
)
