there are only six colors from the pantone solid coated color swatches. halftones is the coloring technique you see in newspaper comics with the tiny colored dots.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halftone

No halftones in this that I can see... maybe you were thinking of partial transparency? It does look like the designer might have used a transparent dark colour over the lighter ones, but upon closer inspection it's clear that just six colours were used, very carefully chosen.

It's an amazing design. But I'm torn about voting for it because I wouldn't actually wear it as a shirt..

i think three things would make this stronger:

rotate the overall design about 15 degrees clockwise (to eliminate the static, flat bottom)
round out the top part of the wave (it's a bit too flat)
remove the sun or bring it closer to the design (it feels too isolated)

I was thinking transparencies. stupid 'halftone' is like a damn buzz word... when it's late in the morning, sometimes I mistype.... it happens.
