Re: Clip Art

I used so much clip art in this piece I had to restart Illustrator 5 times. This thing is full of clip art. Tons and tons of royalty free pieces assembled by me. You may see some familiar images in this work from this derby and others. That's because I got them from the same place they did. The only difference, for the most part, is I'm stating that ALL of this is clip art in my original post -- something everyone should do. I've modified parts of graphics in this piece but none of it is mine and none of it is original.

Be up front about using clip art. That's all I ask.

Just the facts Jack.

Why?

I tend not to use clip art all that often, But I have. I can't draw. Is there a rule somewhere that you must be able to draw to submit? Assembling clip art and vector graphics into something original seems like a legitimate way to make a shirt design to me.

You've displayed that fact with this submission. It looks great and it fits with the derby theme and it uses no copyrighted material without permission. What's wrong with that? I see no need for full disclosure on source material.

That's my $0.02

Simply put, people buy shirts from Woot to get something new and original. If not, they'd be spending all of their money at Anchor Blue, Hot Topic and Target. I would hate to think someone would buy a shirt that they THOUGHT was an original work only to find out later it was simply assembled clip art. If they buy it knowing it's clip art, then I don't see any problem. That's why I'd like to see people be up front about the use of it instead of trying to pass it off as their original work.

Just the facts Jack.

I've never taken a medical class in my life. Can I do your heart surgery? I mean, I know a little sewing and am familiar with cutting meat.

Way to be upfront about your use of clipart and put it under a brand new account name so no one knows who you really are.

What shirts are yours?
Do the clip art shirts pass yours?
Im not sure why you are so bent on this? I could see making this a big deal if... everyone else had a problem with clip art or if it was... I don't know against the rules.. Im not in this for the money... I do think its fun. Give it a rest man.

In the future, a reference to joel asking for the same thing might be useful to include.

Re: Clip Art

I kind of like this shirt. I would definitely wear it, although I'm not sure if I would buy it.

And here's a secret: Sometimes when I'm stuck and can't figure out how to draw an element of a design, I take a piece of clip art and trace it. Then I play with it and change it around to make it my own. It helps when I don't know how to draw, say... I dunno... an umbilical cord or something. And I'm a "real" artist.
