Re: Ensign Goner's tunic

Great idea for a shirt, However, I think the rip could use a little more detail.

I agree, add more detail to make it obvious that it's a scorch mark, show burned shirt fibers and some scorched flesh under it. As it is it just looks like someone took a black marker across it... Look at some "real" phaser burns from the show to get ideas.

A little more work and this could be awesome. It could also be rejected due to silly copyrights... (though I'd argue that pretty much everything on this site that isn't totally original is a parody and, thus, perfectly acceptable)

Also, phaser/disrupter burns tend to be circular (they're fired straight, not slashed).

If you want to make it Romulan disrupter-like you could add some green tinge to the burn marks (on the fabric, not the underlying skin).

I'm not really worried about a rejection- it is a parody by intention and is executed as one pretty defensibly.
I have done my best to make something better on the fabric today and failed completely. I knew all along that this was the least good part of the design, but I haven't been able to do anything that looks more realistic. i.e., at all realistic. I don't really want to just poke holes in the guy's tunic, and I can't seem to find any images of phaser burns from the show online. I can't make a good looking image of scorched fabric that passes my quality control either. I'm bummed, though, because I do think this could have been a super shirt to have.
