odd. i was so sure that was in the style of Wright! i guess in my mind's eye, i saw the tetris pieces falling down and being manipulated into place to eventually create patterns Wright was famous for in his stained glass windows.

but, i like it best of all the tetris shirts today so you still got my vote.

Wow... it does look like Wright! Thanks for the positive vibes. I liked this one more than my other one since it has the movement of the pieces as well as the actual art ode.

Thanks!

I have two home made mondrian-esque paintings in my kitchen, and I would LOVE to wear this shirt. I hope this makes it to the end, if this does, this will be the first woot shirt I will purchase for myself!

i think some people have an odd sense of what art is.

Actually most people probably don't like 99% of what is considered "art"...

This one really grabbed my eye. I like it.

oh I hope to heaven that this wins. I love Mondrian. I like his non-squares-and-black-lines work better but this is very very clever. Got my vote.

I want this shirt alot more then I have wanted a Woot shirt in a while. I think it works very well as a shirt and not just inside of this specific derby.

Well, art is something that can only be defined by oneself.

Personally, despite the simplicity in this design, I like it because of its reference to Tetris, its colors, and its "geometricness" (sic). Row vs Wade was simple as well, but it did not appeal to me unlike this simple piece.

Never really got this style. It's a good design, I'm just not a fan of this particular style. Good Luck though.

Nicely done. Mondrian style is easily identifiable as are Tetris shapes. How perfect to combine the two. Looks like I'm gonna be out of another $16.24 come this weekend.

YAY tetris... vacuums you just lost your fog pos, which means that the bar for 4th place is currently set at 484 votes

A little too simple/familiar. Not badly designed, but also not my Tetris horse in this race (I love the MC Escher Tetris design, though).

Yeah, I think though that there's no possible way for anyone to catch the rembrandt mario, davinci turtle, and propaganda nintendo.

I just wish the Durer turtle would have kicked it out, since Portal 1) has been a banned subject for many a derby, and 2) is horribly drawn IMHO.

The Rembrandt Mario spot is probably ripe for the taking. It's seen hardly any hotness time yesterday or today. If things keep their current pace I'd expect to see the Escher Tetris, Da Vinci turtle shell, and propaganda Nintendo in the top 3 spots come Friday.

*giggles* couldn't help but notice you talking behind my back. (In this little thread and on SDS)
I do, in a way, appreciate knowing that not all think it's the greatest drawn thing. I mean, even I know that. I know it isn't fantastic and now that someone is displeased by it, I wish I'd done something about it earlier, but of course, you can't say such a thing to my face and give me tips on how to improve it because it seems "rude" or possibly "below you".

I'm a learning artist and as you should know, artists want criticism, both positive and negative, and would like to improve based on such feedback. And last I heard, most people don't appreciate being talked about behind their back... I know I don't.

If you think it's carp, give me mature feedback on how I can make it not carp. I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate finding out that I've been saying negative things about your Tetris shirt behind your back without even mentioning why I think so.

Also, I know the subject of Portal is banned, but I figured I'd take the risk (since most of my shirts don't make it this far anyway). It's not Cake, it's not Companion Cube, it's not something that I've seen or heard of done anywhere.

On a lighter note... I agree with tgentry here. Rembrandt hasn't been getting quite as many votes as others. I'm personally looking forward to the results; the whole derby's been pretty close!

A lighter note for you perhaps. For me it's a dark, ominous tolling of things to come. ;)

*giggles*, you never know From what it looks like, the top 3 are going to be great no matter what.... unless I end up disappointing a lot of people with my "horribly drawn Portal shirt" XD But I don't see that happening.

And I meant "on a lighter note" in reference to my previous post. Sorry if that sounded offensive, totally didn't mean anything like that!

Re: (Yet Another) Tetris design in the Mondrian Style

This shirt is so so for me. I would wear it if it were just the bottom part of the design that is where the actual "Mondrian" style takes place..I just don't know that I would wear it. I think this is strong, but would have been stronger, minus the falling pieces on the top half of the shirt. (this is just my opinion, and it is a good design.)

Hahaha, I'm coming from behind and a three day late submission for this, the portal/escher, or mario/rembrandt... But any of them beat me I wouldn't have a grudge because they are all great designs. This could be a close race at the end :-)

Yeah, I did a 3-day late submission, but only got to 9th. Good job...

Re: (Yet Another) Tetris design in the Mondrian Style

I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to all who liked and voted for this design. I'm so happy that you all liked it. It was a weird confluence of Tetris, Mondrian, and apparently Frank Lloyd Wright. Coolness. If it doesn't get printed at midnight tonight (likely that escher will beat it), feel free to send me a PM and I'll keep you in the loop when it eventually gets printed by me.

Thank you.
