Re: Restroom Sloth

how many rolls of toilet paper died to make that shirt?

seriously..... I cannot for the life of me understand why SO MANY voters would actually want to -wear- a roll of toilet paper.

maybe i'm missing something. maybe it's a commentary on the 'state of woot.' maybe it's a commentary on the state of the economy. or the whole last eight years.

ok... i've convinced myself. I'll buy it and get a black sharpie and write BUSH STRATEGY BRIEFINGS on the roll of toilet paper.

But that would be an insult to the great Scotts and Charmins of the world, wouldn't it?

Wow.. you guys are BRUTAL! It's funny... and its to the point! I hope everyone looked up what Sloth means.. and this is a very simple example of everyday sloth in all of us - So don't pretend like you've never stacked your roll cause you were too lazy to take off the old one.

Bathroom humor is defined as a type of off-colour humour dealing with defecation, urination, flatulence, vomiting and other bodily functions.

This is a social commentary on the laziness (sloth) of people who finish the roll and don't bother to put the new one on the spindle.

Artistically it is clean and well defined, and it is far far more clever than nearly any other submission. Just because you need your humor splashed in your face like a cold glass of water, don't castigate a great effort - just don't vote for it and move on.

Clever, but neither a shirt concept - nor something that would still be clever without someone knowing it was submitted for a Sins theme.

You'd be walking around with toilet paper on your shirt and no one would know why in the world you were wearing it.

A nice crisp design. A lovely bit of humor that I can certainly relate to, but I'm concerned that this would ruin my bathroom stalking abilities as people would undoubtedly reach for the well rendered bathroom tissue on my chest and realize there was a skinny kid in the stall with them trying to blend in with the wall.

I'm sure everyone here can relate.

It is a t-shirt contest and a design contest. Neither of these aspects excuse a roll of toilet paper from being in the fog. It's a lazy, lazy concept from someone I know to be better than that, not a design and certainly not a t-shirt.

Seriously, people, ask yourself "why do I like this?" If your only answer is "it's funny," re-evaluate. George Carlin was funny, and I wouldn't wear his decaying skull around my neck as a pendant.

Here is my main problem with this design (though it isn't my only one), it doesn't work outside the realm of this derby. Do you want to have the following exchange everytime you where this shirt?

"Why is there a roll of toilet paper on top of empty roll of toilet paper on your shirt?"

"It represents sloth."

"What?"

"You know, laziness. Like, the guy is too lazy to put a new roll in, so he just sets it on top. Lazy."

"Oh, ok. I get it. So, why is there a stray piece down at the bottom of the shirt?"

"Oh. Well, that represents...uh...hmm...wrath? Cause the guy's roommate is so angry that the tp wasn't replaced that he stepped on it. Like a bug."

"What?"

"You just don't get it. Maybe you should go somewhere and sit and think about your life. Because this shirt is way too clever for you."

Nah, the shirt says "I liked to TP houses when I was a kid" ... or something.

Maybe I'm an WAFFLES! TASTY WAFFLES!, but I'm pretty sure that without knowing about the derby, I'd see this as just toilet paper on a shirt. Sometimes a bog roll is just a bog roll.

It's a clever idea to represent sloth, but I have to agree with those who claim this falls into the 'unwearable' column.

But as usual, most wooters disagree with me. I hope they enjoy their shirts, and I thank them for saving me another $10 next weekend. :D Can't afford it since the economy went down the toilet anyhow ...

i'm absolutely convinced after this derby that there MUST be a forum somewhere on al gore's internets where a membership base of saboteurs reside, wrecking havoc on art contests worldwide. one of the forum topics is, of course, shirt.woot, where they pick the worst designs or most un-wearable ummm, carp, and collectively vote it into the fog and keep it there. I'd call them a.sswipes.com, but that'd be too polite. congrats to andrewc for being this week's selection.

I had friends (daughters) who refused to put the paper roll on the roller. Mom created a "special picnic lunch flyer" advertising fun, games and food and featuring instructions on how to put the toilet paper on the roller. It was passive aggressive, yes, but I thought it was hilarious.

And if this prints, by golly, their mom is getting this T-shirt for Christmas.

So, yes, there is market for lowest-common denominator tees.

It's funny. It's to the point. In fact, it is the epitome of Sloth. But it is not wearable. SInce this is a T-shirt derby, wearability is key. Does that mean people should be rude? No. But when some thing like this gets more votes than shirts that are wearable, some designers get upset.

Re: Restroom Sloth

I'm another that says that while this is a clean design and fits the theme, I would not ever wear a shirt that is little more than a roll of toilet paper. Ok, well, maybe if Charmin paid me, but otherwise, uh uh.

That being said, I wholeheartedly agree with those who say "People, lighten up". Don't insult the artist, don't insult the voters. I *DO* think that people should actually think whether or not that would actually wear the shirt design first. I am afraid that people are having a knee-jerk reaction to a humorous idea, and voting without thinking of the consequences.

So I am advocating trying to be a little less rude, and perhaps to even be an actual "community", like the little tab atop says.

Can't we all just get along?

(Oh, and P.S. - Dekonstruct, are you always so amusing? You got a couple of "good ones" in there) :D

You know what? I'm much more likely to wear a shirt with toilet paper on it than I am to wear any shirt with flames on it. If this had an airbrushed dragon or some anime character on it, I'd be outraged. I mean, come on. It's not like it has actual poop on it. It doesn't say "damn seagulls" or "who farted?" Come to think of it, I might wear those too, but for a different reason.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Given your earlier comment on this design, you are either being facetious, or you like this design more than either of the fire ones. I have no idea which interpretion would be the correct one.

I wouldn't have guessed that people would want to wear a toilet paper design, but this is a clever take on Sloth. But I'm with those who don't think the idea would carry through outside the context of the derby. I don't think this only qualifies as bathroom humour in the literal sense - it's not a dirty joke.

I think it's a great idea, nice design, and appropriate..just not one of my fav's in this derby. I'm fairly new to these, but imo, you had to submit something 'over the top good' to compete in this one. Off the top of my head, I'm personally loving the W"rat"h / fink style shirt, the creepy balloon head guy and the lusty flame lady.

I bought stuff. Imagine that stuff listed here.

If you don't understand the Lust entry, and why it is so well done, I have to presume you're 11 and listen to Miley Cyrus. Those of us who have reached puberty understand how fire and beauty relates to passion, and how the snake and apple relate to sin. You'll understand some day, young'un.

As for fun and original, I guess toilet paper can be fun to some people, but if you go back and look at the panic, emergency, etc derbies, you'll see that wooters loooooove empty toilet paper rolls. This is not that original.

If you can explain to me what The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, apples, and/or snakes have to do with "strong sexual desire," I'll concede to being over a decade younger than my actual age. ("Temptation" is too vague for me, because every sin ever committed can be simplified to that idea, because it is simply "desire to do something that is wrong.")

you'll see that wooters loooooove empty toilet paper rolls. This is not that original.

I'll admit that, at least, but I would still maintain that it's a more original way of portraying the concept of sloth than a hot woman is of lust.

The whole garden of eden mythology exists as a very strong image of what it is to sin. To me that imagery is there to solidify the idea of lust, not be that idea... the flame is the burning passion, the woman is the desire, and the candle-holder is the idea of sin, with the lust stuck right inside it. I believe your problem is that you cannot grasp a non-literal representation thereof.

If you wanted, though, you could stretch the idea, and say that Eve lusted after knowledge (it's not a purely sexual idea, after all), or else that the snake is clearly a phallic symbol, ergo relating to lust. But I think it was summed up better by the previous poster who suggested you might not want to comment again. All you're really doing is making people who voted for the TP roll look like rubes.

I love this shirt and would wear it. It outlines the complete idiocy of the seven deadly sins. Everyone is lustful, prideful, gluttonous, ect. Not just once or twice but often and easily. Gotta love beliefs that outlaw things that people just are by nature. Might as well say being tall or blond is a deadly sin.....
