Wow. First entry. And a beautiful one at that. Nice job seki. And congratulations on the sell-out. I wasnt one of the fortunate few who got one.

I didn't have to look at your name to know this was yours. That's a good thing. Well executed sir/madam. It's good that you have a consistent style to work with. Good job, and keep it up.

My first thought was Pokemon, actually. And conveniently enough, with a quick search...
Whereas apparently the Naruto one looks like this:
I don't think either looks -quite- like this one, but this is the issue with going for a pure textbook anime style... it ALL LOOKS SIMILAR. And ugly IMO, but unarguably similar.
Also, holy god is searching anime difficult. Half the images are crappy drawings by some delusional otaku. And I feel i learned more about furries than I ever cared to. Kitsune girls... ::shudder::

I would've put the upper body of the fox + the lantern as the thumbnail. Since the lantern isn't really the focus of the design, it shouldn't be the thumbnail, either.
try to be original. i promise it won't hurt.

I hope the thumbnail doesn't hurt the picture that much.

The first thing I thought of was Pokemon also ... but that's because I never knew much about Naruto. Looking at it now ... it does have that Naruto-anime'ish style. Nice job.
Re: Kitsune
I love the delicacy of the fox's face and ears, and the way the lantern provides balance to the design. Oh, so nice!
Wow this shirt is amazing! In fact I love all your designs so far, Sekiyoku! I guess I'm just really into fantasy, sci-fi, and cool-looking shirts. I'm definitely voting for this and buying this if it wins.

AdderXYU wrote:My first thought was Pokemon, actually. And conveniently enough, with a quick search...
Well, I'm not sure I'd go Japanese mythology => Pokemon as any sort of syllogism. Kitsune are a significant part of Japanese mythology. They are often portrayed as having nine tails. So you'll find lots of similar images.

Re: Kitsune
I actually really like the lantern. It looks like it is done in different style than the fox thingy. Too bad I have an aversion to any members of the canidae family on tee-shirts.
Re: Kitsune
More lantern, less foxtail, plz. I don't know, I just think this design is way too big on the whole, as well - I really don't dig huge designs in general.
Which is a shame because I love the idea (one of my favourite perfumes is Kitsune-Tsuki by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab) and the colours and your general style, as always.
*sigh*

Yes, exactly. Except not quite as posterish as THAT shirt.
AdderXYU wrote:You argue lots of foolish things determinedly. Like that time you decided copyright could be selective.
Actually, I argued that copyright didn't cover obvious expressions of ideas. Which, as it happens, it doesn't.
But seriously, you're going to tell me that anime all looks the same?

Hah, I'm glad you like cool shirts. ;)
@ fairnymph + palmettogirl - Glad you like the lantern, honestly, the picture didn't come out exactly how I intended it - it was originally supposed to be on asphalt, but the design had more contrast and was more eyecatching on black ; it just became more solid instead of flowy. Hope I can do something better next week.
Re: Kitsune
I really don't see what's so freaking great about this shirt, or how it's gotten as many votes as it does.
There *must* be some serious vote-rigging going on here. Just out of nowhere, this shirt and the stupid Greek God Alphabet shirt shot up into the fog overnight.
Hmm.....same two "artists" are suspected of the vote-doctoring practice.
Really makes ya wonder.....
blahncblah wrote: Just out of nowhere, this shirt and the stupid Greek God Alphabet shirt shot up into the fog overnight.
1. I was in the fog since yesterday afternoon.
2. The "Greek God Alphabet" is not only Greek Gods, it's many other mythologies too.
3. It "shot up" "out of nowhere" because it was posted last night, not at the beginning of the contest.
Conclusion: You're dumb.
Re: Kitsune
Well... if you are going to do a thumbnail of a large print, try to make the focal point of your print part of the thumb. ;) I saw a lantern and didn't think 9-tailed fox right away until I read the title. Visual cue is a huge part of getting those extra "quickie" votes. :P Try keeping the whole image (only smaller) or centering the thumb on the main "topic" of your print.
once again though, great job with this one. ![]()

I never wore those shirts. Mine were the kitties with puffy paint paw prints. I bet that would go over well with shirt wooters these days.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.
Trolls usually don't have a point other to antagonize and provoke, whereas these "trolls" at least have several compelling pieces of evidence of past questionable doings on the part of you and others. Whether that is connected to this isn't relevant nor easily decided, but it's not really trolling.
I wish the lantern was bigger.

I agree with you.
Looks nice, just doesn't belong on a shirt that's all. I just can't picture myself wearing it and not being told out how much of an anime-obsessed etc.
And I'll be damned if I have to explain the whole Kitsune story to people.

Re: Kitsune
I really hate being a hater, but I can't quite grasp the design. the fox/kitsune itself it quite beautiful holding the lantern, the light falling in nice designs on the foxes leg and arm, but when it gets to the tails...I lose all interest, the weight and balance of the piece seem thrown off, and the way the picture is seems to highlight the tails more than the fox, and it just doesn't seem right. But I am but mortal and perhaps don't see this piece in the right light. I have enjoyed other works of yours sekiyoku, and even voted for a few. But alas, this piece baffles me...I'm sorry, I hope I at least gave some warrantable reasons for my distain, and as I said I hate being a hater.

I don't consider this being a hater at all, perhaps I should have made the tails less heavy.
In my mind, they didn't seem like much of an issue because a lot of the tail is made up of the shirt color, so at least inkwise, it's not too much in one area. I'll try to keep in mind picture balance for future entries, I wish woot let you edit current entries!

The winning doesn't surprise me at all, I generally like what I see from this artist week after week, so to me it makes perfect sense. I haven't found many other artist who's designs appeal to me like that as often, so for me personally, it's no surprise.... and I am happy they get printed so I can buy what I like. To each their own.
And honestly, I don't have a lifetime to just read through the nonsense arguments back and forth that go absolutely nowhere.

Re: Kitsune
Not a fan of this one, kinda has the same 'feel' as a lot of your other designs. I'd like to see something a little more original win these derbies.
I like it but I do think it's a bit big for the shirt.
Re: Kitsune
Not to be rude, but it really disappoints me at how well this shirt is doing in the Derby. As I see it a shirt has tremendous artwork (in terms of detail, concept, etc) or wearability/humor. This is purely subjective but in terms of artwork, there's nothing particularly detailed or intricate (as far as I see) in the shirt's creation. The concept is (in essence) merely a portrait; and one--as has been previously said--that gives the feel of a wolf shirt of old. And personally, in terms of wearability for a design to merit that much of a shirt it needs to be detailed to the extent of something like Lucky's shirt.
I'm really just boggled as to why this is doing so well. No offense intended.

Yeah looking back on it, I can totally see what you're talking about. I do enjoy the angle you were going for with it. Regardless of what I think it looks like the shirt is still a strong contender for a print as of yet. ![]()

As a side note of proof that one veers towards particular artists: Almost half of my 15 Woot shirts are from this artist. Honestly, I hadn't even realized until recently, as I don't pay attention much to the artist section on the front page.

Not necessarily. For example...wooter purchases 3 Random shirts. That counts as only one Woot.

Good catch, Heartline. If Adder is correct, then someone forgot which account they were using when posting that. Or maybe 15 is the aggregate across multiple accounts.
This is really pretty, but I agree with people who said the tails are a bit much and the lantern could be more prominent.
arcsus wrote:Not necessarily. For example...wooter purchases 3 Random shirts. That counts as only one Woot.
arcsus, there may be another explanation. According to shirtderbystats, this artist has only had 2 shirts come in as Derby chimps. I don't remember any non-derby shirts coming from her, but there may be some. It may be that KyuJones orders 3 of the same shirt per order.

Ah, true.
I only meant to point out that the color of the square by your user name is not necessarily an accurate indicator of how many shirts you purchased. But I see what you are saying. OP said half of his/her 15 shirts came from this artist, when that isn't possible with only one account. Even if OP bought 3 of each, that is still only 6 which is not half of 15. Unless op was grossly exaggerating (which - let's face it - is quite likely on the internet).

Randoms count as 1 purchase, but make 3 shirts.
Also gifts.
While I wouldn't be overly shocked by any otaku-looking wooter being embroiled in ramydrama, box color vs. woots owned is not a foolproof sniff-out. Unless they claim 20 and have a yellow box.
I know, it's hard to believe non-involved people would buy their work, but it stands to reason some of their sales are legit. Just probably not the ones they get next-day on their non sell-outs.
