I agree, but this shirt is still better than the other top 4 at the moment... commie dinosaurs, a dog giving a cat a fish, and some strange looking birds? Those all are extremely lackluster. Old man winter really could use some more votes, it has a certain quality and humour these top shirts do not.

Re: Resist

For anyone having a bit of trouble understanding this shirt:

This design was in the "One Continuous Line" derby, and I believe a good execution of the theme. A resistor is a two-terminal electronic component designed to oppose an electric current by producing a voltage drop between its terminals in proportion to the current, that is, in accordance with Ohm's law: V = IR. The resistance R is equal to the voltage drop V across the resistor divided by the current I through the resistor.(according to Wikipedia).

Good luck sundbe10.

I love a good nerdy shirt, but the execution here is a little lacking. I know it's likely hand drawn, but it looks like a pretty standard font. Not something I would personally wear, but maybe if I were a physics TA or something.

Yeah this shirt is probably popular with engineers, technicians, etc. but if you don't belong to that group I could see why you wouldn't like it. And the design is pretty simplistic, but I think the very square, geometric shape emphasizes the fact that it's a circuit board.

"Resist" may not be the most popular design you ever did sundbe10, but I hope it does well in this derby anyway. After missing out by so few votes with Stroll Down the Styx in last week's derby(and People Fight the week before), and that loss possibly due to what may or may not be some questionable voting practices amongst two of the top artists, I think you deserve a print.

Re: Resist

What's ironic about this shirt is while if it printed I'd probably buy it because I'm big into electronics, I can't bring myself to vote for it... it's a great idea, and as well executed as you could expect, there are so many entries with a ton of time and effort put into them and look great from an artistic standpoint, but just don't speak to me like this one. I'm utterly torn.

I think sometimes we forget that these "wonderful designs" actually go on a T-shirt and will in theory have to be worn on your person. Yes, many of the other designs in this derby probably had a lot more work into them and they'd look great framed and on my wall, but on a T-shirt? No thanks. This is something that could actually be worn and why I hope it wins!

Since you posted your comment under the "Resist" thumbnail, I think I would like to clarify that the artist had nothing to do with any talk about "voting practices". I was the one who mentioned it. But the more I read about all this, the more I think I'm just going to stay out of it.

It has been obliquely referred to by more than just you in this thread. If not, I apologize. Frankly, it pops up in so many threads that I can't keep it straight.

Most importantly, my comment going under the designer's thumbnail wasn't implicating him. That's what happens when you comment on a design without directly replying to another poster. I didn't want to single out posters as much as I wanted to make a blanket statement. This wasn't addressed toward the author in the slightest.

It is a circuit diagram, and resistance is calculated based on those. It is actually one of the only shirts in the top 10 with any discernable premise.

That and it is clean, well presented, a fantastic use of line for typography, and would make a good t-shirt. All in all, solid choice for a print.

Well that depends on your definition of a good design. I agree that simplicity is very important on a printed shirt. Also, the humor makes perfect sense on this one and the colors work very well.

This is the only shirt in the derby I would buy for sure.

Sorry Josh...you can't do that. Not only is this design the property of the designer, it's also still under a contract with Woot. I've contacted Zazzle to have the shirt removed. I suggest contacting the designer so as not to come off as any more of a jerk for reproducing the design without permission.

Wow.

I know you people don't have enough cells in your head to make a spark, but seriously? This is the most egregious showing of artistic disrespect I've ever seen at woot. Sure, I think Resist is stupid. I think it would make a hideous shirt. I think its appeal is niche at best. But it is sundbe10's. It is not yours. I don't care if you're not making a dime off it, neither is he if you put it up. It is HIS DESIGN. PTERODACTYLS! you if you think you're so great that you deserve something so badly that you're willing to steal it.

If you're not going to show a shred of respect for what the strongest designers are doing, at least TRY to respect that every entry represents someone else's work (hard or otherwise). By putting it up for sale yourself, regardless of making profit, you are taking away any profit he himself could possibly make.

This is why the derby is broken. odoriferous voids like you think you are owed something. You think that it's about you getting your shirt. But it's not. It's about a designer getting rewarded for that shirt you're getting, too. You are half the equation at best. Learn a thing or two about not being an instant-gratification-starved, Veruca-Salt-with-the-golden-goose baby.
