Real talk this is almost exactly what I had in mind to do when the theme came out. Glad I changed my mind haha. Goodstuff though, real simple and bright.
Very wearable. I love the colors.

I like the design. I really couldn't see a guy wearing this. But if it wins I will buy one for the wifey! +1

Rainbows are PLENTY manly! Just like real men wear pink, right right?

Agreed. Well, except for the wifey part.
Still, this is a great design. It gets my vote even if I won't wear it.
Re: Let go
I love seeing an artist take a simple, perhaps even common concept, and handle it in such a superb way that it feels fresh again. This looks note perfect radiomode. I can't point out a single line I'd change. And the color choice is BOLD!
acobjoe wrote:Very elegant, I'd wear it.
really sweet shirt. I hope it doesn't get rejected because of the '#' symbol. I know its the sign for sharp, but its on my keyboard. Good luck!
Re: Let go
I'm very torn! I love chopin, and this is a well executed design. However, the color choice doesn't lend itself to a guy...
Re: Let go
This is the only yellow shirt I'd ever wear. GMV!

Woulda voted for it if it wasn't on yellow...resub on white or grey??? Really like the design tho...
Fraking phenominal.

To be fair, a sharp is a hash tilted a little bit. I guess though, you cant create it with your keyboard alone.

Either way it doesn't matter as it's a musical note and Joel said musical notes would not be rejected.
Re: Let go
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!!!
We will buy SEVERAL.
(recently there was a design that each of my two daughters bought the 3 Max amount each, and I did the same. THIS will be one of those!!!)
Need an opinion though: I really do not think many adult men will feel secure enough to wear this design, but could I give it to my almost-4 year old, budding-prodigy nephew? Any thoughts?
Re: Let go
Anyone worried about whether a guy would wear this shirt: that guy model in the comp looks hot wearing it.
I'm just saying...

It's a hit! Great design- simple with only 4 colors, too. I'm pleasantly surprised this is doing so well here!

Ok, but what if the guy in question does not start out looking as hot as the model? :D

I've now asked a couple of people, and none of them think yellow is a colour I could wear. I might get one anyway. Screw those people. Gets a vote ![]()

Clearly, the shirt is what makes him hot. ![]()
I'll buy one for my sister, not for me too girly

Its not about being secure enough. men don't wear butterflys period. Pretty soon, the statement secure enough will be applied to dresses. Um he's not secure enough to wear a dress.
Not sure how this will affect the male vote, though. I'll buy one for my sister if it wins.
Re: Let go
Looks like it belongs on threadless. I have this burning sensation....
Nice idea, nicely done and I really like the flourishes at the end... my one hesitation is the colors are a little weird... not a fan of the hot pink... just doesn't look right to me.
On colors - isn't the shirt color depicted a deeper and slightly brighter yellow than the actual woot yellow? It looks that way when I compare it to the templates woot provided.
Besides the colors though - really nice!
Re: Let go
I love this design. The addition of the tendrils and the butterfly bush are so unique. It is well composed too. ![]()
Nice, I really do like the colors in this one. Great design also. Awesome job
Re: Let go
I really love this shirt, but the color is not my thing... wonder if I can pull it off. Oh the dilemma. Probably I will look sickly in this.
SydneyB wrote:could I give it to my almost-4 year old, budding-prodigy nephew? Any thoughts?
I think ALL 4-yr olds where bright colors, no? :D If he is a budding prodigy I'm sure he will want 3 of these like you will.
Don't all 4-yr olds like butterflies, too? I could be wrong about that one.
Re: Let go
Chopin is my favorite composer, I love playing his piano music. Good choice of song :-) And, my sorority's mascot is the butterfly! This shirt is simply beautiful and I would definately buy it.
yeah yeah yeah....
i would never wear this shirt. yellow is not a color most men would wear. if this went to print it would probably sell half as much as average. only women would buy it. pink may now be an acceptable color for men to wear but only the simply delightful community wears rainbows

Re: Let go
I'm so happy to see a beautiful design like this doing so well! My usual reaction to yellow shirts is the same as most comments here - ew, gross, but you know I was so into the design I didn't even notice that it was a yellow shirt. In this case it completely works!
Re: Let go
People are too self-conscious.
I hope this prints, because I've always wanted to see how I looked in yellow, and this'll be the one.
Beautifully done!
Re: Let go
I absolutely love this one.
I don't know if I could pull it off, but I will definitely buy one for my wife when it inevitably prints. It will be easier to admire when she's wearing it anyway. ![]()

hear hear. I heart this design--Chopin is my favorite composer--but yellow is the one color that I have tried to wear, over and over again, and never succeeded. I now simply adhere to a no-yellow policy in order not to appear to be a zombie.
rowanmikaio wrote:People are too self-conscious.

You might be pleasantly surprised. My first yellow shirt was Buffalo Sunset, and I was apprehensive at first...but when I got the shirt, I loved it. None of the shirt templates do the yellow color justice, it's much prettier in person. I'm pale white, redheaded, and freckled...and I think the yellow looks great on me.
Re: Let go
Could you tell me what color t-shirt this is? The color on my screen looks like AA's "sunshine," but I don't remember seeing a woot sunshine shirt before - didn't think they used that. Is it lemon?
I'm trying to decide if I could possibly pull this shade of yellow off. The closer to gold, the better! ^_^
Reawen wrote:Could you tell me what color t-shirt this is?
I'm pretty sure it's lemon, as that's the only yellow-hued shirt they've used thus far.
As for the design, very well done! I'm a guy, I like wearing yellow, but unfortunately, I don't think I can pull this off. The use of color is great, and it really conveys a sense of action and breaking free of the confines of the bars.. just so simple and excellent.
Great work, Radiomode.
One thing I really worry about, though, RM -- is your use of a gradient in your mockup's background (light-to-dark yellow), which is forbidden.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was rejected and you had to resubmit! I would email Woot staff and see if you need to re-submit ASAP to ensure you get as many votes as you deserve!

wizard7926 wrote:I'm pretty sure it's lemon, as that's the only yellow-hued shirt they've used thus far.
Hmm... thanks, that's what I was afraid of ^_^
Re: Let go
The blue really throws it off. I think it would look so much better with more shades/tints of the same color. Moving through progressively lighter reds from black. Then maybe accenting/detailing with a different color, like blue, had you leftover colors. But I don't like the transition of colors.
Re: Let go
I'm simply delightful and I don't think I could wear this shirt either. You can have maybe 2 of the 3 - butterflies, sharp pink or this yellow shirt - but 3 for 3 and, well, you know... I agree with PopeYmir. Black to red alone would make this more "guy-friendly." It's that violent pink with butterflies that screams for most guys, "Oh my God, it was so dark when I left, I put on whats her name's tee instead of mine; what will my buds...what will the taxidriver say...the doorman...what will everyone say!?!?!?"
As for this shirt looking good on the model, I'm sure he looks good no matter what shirt he's in and even better out of it. That doesn't mean he'd wear it.
Afterall, Radiomode doesn't just want to win, place or show; I'm sure he wants to sell as many shirts as possible at $2 a pop. Appealing to woman AND men facilitates those big sales that make a Woot shirt not only an artistic win but a financial success. That's why what males think does matter here. Hence, the forgoing constructive criticism.
That said, I only press the I'd Want One button if I'd really WANT one. So while I applaud Radiomode's fantastic design here and think it is eye-catching and special, I can't vote for it if I'm not willing to put my money where my mouth is. If I'm afraid that I'll be asked why I'm shopping in Macy's Juniors department (queens can be vicious you know), I can fully understand why any other male would be hesitent to wear this stunning, but particularly girly, shirt. Gettng rid of that shocking pink alone would go A LONG way.
sonotthereason wrote:Woulda voted for it if it wasn't on yellow...resub on white or grey??? Really like the design tho...
Oh HELL no, if I see another design I like on the amazingly boring asphalt color I will vomit. :p
I adore it on the lemon. Will definitely buy.
I love this shirt so much. But really, it is more of a women's shirt. But whats wrong with that? Not everything has to be uni-sex. Men could buy these for their wives/girlfriends/children and that would be just fine too
Anyways, I'm crossing my fingers like crazy that this gets through! I want it so bad.
Re: Let go
Very cool design, but yellow shirt is not happening for me especially with the pink. I think I could handle one or the other, but not necessarily both. Nothing personal, just preference wise. And I have worn a pink shirt before, but when my wife says it's too girly, I know that I can say it too. You know, without getting accused of being sexist or homophobic, or any other ridiculousness like that. Good luck though. For some reason, I get a threadless vibe from it. It seems like it's something you'd see over there.

Heheh, thanks.. I think I *WILL* buy it for my nephew (If it wins!)... my brother is very open minded himself... in fact when he and his wife both got Razor phones, HE got the pink one, because he liked it
Re: Let go
Excellent shirt. GMV. And let it be known that Chopin is my homeboy.
I'm a happily married man and I WILL BUY this shirt if it prints(GMV of course). Just cause it's got a little pink doesn't make it a girly shirt if you ask me. Some of the most confident and successful men in the world wear a lot more pink than that. Anyone asks why you got pink, tell them you don't question your own masculinity. Or do you? ^_^
Re: Let go
I love this one just the way it is - no changes needed. We need bright Spring colors like this shirt has. Many derby shirts appeal to the Y-chromosome more than the X, so this one gets my vote!
Re: Let go
Looks great, but not really for me. I mean I just wouldn't wear it.
But that doesn't matter since I know 2 people who will love this.
So I'll still end up buying two of these. Gets my vote!
wizard7926 wrote:One thing I really worry about, though, RM -- is your use of a gradient in your mockup's background (light-to-dark yellow), which is forbidden.

I'm pretty sure they only reject if the gradient is in the thumbnail, because that would be misleading people into thinking the gradient is on the shirt (and of course, if there's a fine gradient in the design itself).
But using gradients to jazz up the comp? Lots of artists do it & get away with it.
Anthony3419 wrote:I like the design. I really couldn't see a guy wearing this. But if it wins I will buy one for the wifey! +1
Maybe you should get radiomode to throw in a pirate, penguin or shark instead of the butterflies? I LOVE it and am glad to see something that looks a little more "girlish".
Re: Let go
I will be in for 1 if this makes it great design flawlessly executed.
Re: Let go
Definitely the best design in the derby. It's thematic, it's simple, it's happy, it's bright. Wish I can vote more than once for this one. Simply elegantly beautiful!
sonotthereason wrote:Woulda voted for it if it wasn't on yellow...resub on white or grey??? Really like the design tho...
I think the yellow adds alot to this design. There are way too many subdued colored shirts. Enough blacks and greys! Life is more than those two colors. And yellow looks good on a guy or a girl, imo.
I just want to add a general statement - criticism and insult are not mutually exclusive. As artists we have to listen to our audience. RadioMode it would be wise to take in the emotional reactions people are having to the colors you selected, instead of being offended. Color selection is critical and you have selected a very "pretty, bright" color pallete...not to mention you used butterflies which in most societies have a strong female association. Personally, I am female, and while I like feminine designs, I really don't like the bright colors and yellow tee shirt. A few subtle tweeks to the color scheme and perhaps a different color tee and this design could have reached new levels of sophistication...and perhaps could it have been a unisex shirt. I really don't think anyone is trying to tear you down here, your design is well executed and obviously people are voting FOR you. Listening to your voting audience will only improve your future performance.

Up to this point I have not written a single reply to the comments about the t-shirt color.
I have no idea from which you draw the conclusion of me being offended. Please dont put word in my mouth.
I appreciate all ppl comments about the t-shirt color! Everyone has their own favorite color(s). I personally like bright colors (or in general, everything that has colors). I also found that if you check the reckoning chart, the longest running t-shirts are all in colors.
The other 3 t-shirts in the fog right now are all in black, navy, or asphlat. I think those are the safest options. But this one is different, and I believe that fact alone should be exciting.
I'm glad to see a shirt with bold color choices doing well. :D I think that bright colors work very well on lemon; the only lemon shirt I have is bright red/gold on lemon, but it looks great.
Not sure if you intended this, but the lemon is also great for having the CMYK color scheme.
And of course the design is awesome. :D Good luck!

Y'know...
Since we're all assuming our own opinions reflect the community on Woot's opinions, I'm gonna give this a go.
There are tons of woot shirts on black, white, and asphalt, colors that I don't particularly like for tshirts. White gets too dirty and reminds me of going to funerals, asphalt is just boring and as for black *hurl*, I just plain don't like that color unless the design is really working it. I'm glad that the woot-off is getting a splash of color for once. If you don't like the yellow, don't vote, its that simple. Really.
Just because you like apple pie doesn't mean you shouldn't have blueberry pie. Sure, apple pie may be your favorite, but blueberry pie is dang delicious.

Here's a hint, lads: we ladies LOVE a secure man.
If yellow looks good on you, wear yellow. If you like bright colors, wear them. Anyone who makes a stupid assumption based on the color of your shirt isn't worth your time anyway.
And, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like brain-bashingly masculine shirts don't get the insinuations that they aren't worthy of woot like the borderline feminine ones do. If a feminine shirt alienates half the population, a masculine one does the same. Are women supposed to branch out and wear the bloody, gory, buggy, skully monstrosities we see around here, yet no dudes can man up to yellow?
/end gender rant.

I hate to be the (apparently) difficult person, but...meh...not my cup o' tea. I personally can't see why it is so popular. My daughter might like it though.
Josephus wrote:consider the printed derby shirts.

I'm going to have to disagree with that. Woot prints a lot of 'cute' derby shirts (which, to be honest, sell like they're gender neutral, so either a lot of dudes are buying them, or a lot of people with kids are buying them), but the dailies are more likely to be overtly masculine. If you take a look at the archive over at shirt.what (http://www.shirtwhat.com/archive_s.php), where you can actually see ALL shirts ever printed side-by-side, I think it's pretty clear that most of them are either straight up gender neutral or leaning toward masculine.
For an example of aforementioned brain-bashingly masculine tees, see the recent daily of hot undead chicks and centipedes.
radiomode wrote:You would be very happy to know that it is not on your keyboard!
A hash is not a sharp. As below:
Time for a unicode moment.
I have no idea what the need is for it not to be on the keyboard, but, Windows users, depending upon what app they're in, can usually use one of:
♭ alt-9837 alt-+266D
♮ alt-9838 alt-+266E
♯ alt-9839 alt-+266F
Where the numerals and + are on the numeric pad (which is a bit of a dance on a lappy). You can also use the + code followed by alt-X in WordPad and (i think) Word. Or (especially if you don't know the code) fire up Character Map and type "flat", "sharp", "natural", or various other keywords in the search box, click the button, and double-click the character to copy it. Or paste them into a text file for handy copying later (which is platform independent). ![]()
Oh yeah: love the shirt! Hope i don't miss it! :D
itsbeth wrote:I'm going to have to disagree with that. Woot prints a lot of 'cute' derby shirts (which, to be honest, sell like they're gender neutral, so either a lot of dudes are buying them, or a lot of people with kids are buying them),
what does that mean? "sell like they're gender neutral"??? the demographic clearly has to be mostly female if cute shirts like those sell the most. and that brings up another point- almost all, if not all, of the unreckoned shirts are derby shirts, and cute. The derby shirts nearly always outsell the dailies, so even assuming you're right that they print more masculine dailies than derby shirts, the overall sales are leaning way over to the cute shirts. Frankly, I NEVER see adult guys wearing these 'cute' shirts. not a single time. 4 yr olds? sure. 10 yr olds? nearly never. make that never.
itsbeth wrote:but the dailies are more likely to be overtly masculine. My point: the comments are here to help you, even the critical ones. Why should we reserve our contrary opinions in a forum designated for discussion? We all have a vested interest in the tees that win the derby because we are also the bulk of the potential buyers. Since the purchase of the shirt is ultimately up to the individual...why is it that everyone who says anything other than "I love it" are painted as "too self-conscious, insecure, intolerant, overtly masculine, etc."? Isn't it a simple case of personal preference? When a person takes the time tell you why they don’t like your shirt I genuinely believe it is because they want to help you out.
Josephus wrote:sold 770 shirts.
Disapproving narwhal? sold 1962.
cute outsells not-cute. but that's just picking two shirts, not at random, and not fair on my part. ;^) I really believe that to be the case, though.
I briefly looked at the archive (a beautiful thing it is). I don't really think that there are a majority of masculine vs. cute shirts on there, but there may be a sort of gender-neutral majority, or plurality. I think that overall, though, lots more selection targeted more at the women than at the men. It isn't really productive to go through and make an arbitrary decision that each shirt fits one category or another, and score them all, though, since then there'd be disagreement about whether the categorizing was correct.
Well I disagree with both of y'all. I didn't think the centipede shirt was masculine, and I DEFINITELY don't think cute shirts are feminine.
I don't know if there are more shirts for one gender than the other, but I DO know that people complain WAY MORE about the shirts perceived as feminine. Either men are whiners, or it's the fact that women simply have more clothing/style options, or some combo thereof.

I don't think the bias has anything to do with cute v. non-cute or male v. female when it comes to sales. It has to do with interesting v. not interesting. And not interesting always wins.

1. engaging or exciting and holding the attention or curiosity: an interesting book.
2. Something Adder personally approves of.
Personally, I prefer the first definition.
I really like this shirt...I just don't like the color. I may end up getting it anyway, though, because it *is* very nice.
If this shirt doesn't win, you NEED to put it up on Cafe Press or something so I can buy one because it's the most beautiful shirt ever. I love music, and ANYTHING to do with music notes, but so much of it is tacky. I want want want this shirt.
I don't know why a guy is wearing a girl style but awesome design!! GMV!!

Cafe Press? Ew. I would recommend Cameesa or even trying it over at Threadless.
Cameesa would be a good bet for a print, though.

Well said! But actually, I'm not really sure if the real definition even matters. Adder decides how to define the words and all of us ignorant customers just have to deal with it.

But using gradients to jazz up the comp? Lots of artists do it & get away with it.
But... there is a gradient in the thumbnail...

Maybe because some guys are secure enough in their masculinity that they don't have to wear shirts that range in color from dark grey to black.
Really love the design, not so hot on the shirt color. Still get a vote, though!

Thank you!
Re: Let go
This will be my only yellow shirt.
I better get daughter one too.
Re: Let go
great balance of real and abstract. a little concerned about how I would look in yellow but I want it!
Really nice design. I love Chopin. As a guy, I wouldn't personally wear it, but I think it is really neat.
Very nice.....I am always THRILLED when a non-black shirt makes it into the FOG.....I hope this one makes 2nd or 3rd at this point - I'm in for one for me and my niece.
Re: Let go
Really glad this placed ... Was so excited to buy one, I set an alarm for 1am to make sure it didn't sell out. ![]()
