Re: Sea of Dreams
Showing some LOVE for this beautiful collab. The flow is very organic with a bit of chaos for good measure. Color choices are PHENOMENAL. Let's see a print for Drakxxx and Zenne!

Re: Sea of Dreams
I remember how late this was submitted in it's original derby, but still made up lots of ground. I hope the future of this design is shrouded in fog
Beautiful work, Zenne and Drakxxx!
Re: Sea of Dreams
Very nice use of the entire shirt. I especially love what happens up top with the wave! Nice work.
Re: Sea of Dreams
I still think the sails need to face the other way, instead of facing the stern on the ship which doesn't make sense, but it doesn't stop me from giving it a vote.

Good vote! I think in that storm, isn't it possible the wind could be blowing the ship backwards? :D
That's the way I'll see it, anyways. I can get pretty OCD about my clothes too.
Re: Sea of Dreams
Beautiful. I love the way the design flows on the shirt. Agree that it's very organic/natural.

Perhaps...
I think why it troubles me so much is because I used to draw ships from age 5 to 11. That's all I did. Ever. Seeing it drawn a different way than how I would have done it is probably plucking a sour note with my youth.
So that's it: The ship's sails are ruining my childhood.

ughh, I just noticed thos sails... They are all wrong, at least according to every picture of a ship I've looked at. :p And drawn for that matter. That's the only low point on this shirt though.
I adore this design... the organic flow, the colors, the style... just wish the girl wasn't in it.
Especially her arm, that looks like you can see muscle striations in it, thus making it look like she has no skin. The girl I can just do without, but the muscley weird arm adds creepy to an otherwise lovely design. I could *maybe* try and overlook the girl, but can't overlook that arm...wouldn't buy it because of that, unfortunately....
but love the top 3/4 of the design.
Re: Sea of Dreams
You really have produced a 'gobsmacker' with this one, truly beautiful work Drakxxx!

But the arm isn't in the "girl" part of the design. It's in the flowing underwater part....

I would rather this knock Electronica back out of the Fog, frankly. Then again, I think this shirt is going to end up in a race for fourth, unfortunately.

I am also not very fond of Electronica, because I find it feels too much like stock vector art. (Even if, obviously, it is not...) But, I would rather see the entire fog wiped and a new batch take the race.
Re: Sea of Dreams
God I wish this design was printed, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I REALLY hope that the voters bump this up...
HeartlineTwist wrote:But the arm isn't in the "girl" part of the design. It's in the flowing underwater part....
The arm belongs to the girl, no? And regardless of which part of the design you consider it to be in, it doesn't look flowing, it looks kind of macabre...just looks like exposed muscles and very unmatching to the feel of the rest - which is too bad because the rest of the design is gorgeous.
Re: Sea of Dreams
Three cute shirts in the fog and this gets bumped out, I've lost all respect for woot voters.
Re: Sea of Dreams
This so deserves to be in the fog right now. Ugh.
Re: Sea of Dreams
I LOVE this design. It deserves to be printed. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It's one of the nicest shirts I've seen on this site.
Please get back in the fog.

I don't agree that it would make sense in the context of the design. Yes, it IS part of the girl, but if you look, any part of her that crosses into the "water" part of the design loses a lot of detail and becomes stylized to a certain degree. Compare her upper arm to her forearm. They are drastically different, and I don't think this is unintentional in the slightest.
I understand that the way this design choice was implemented may leave something to be desired, but I think it was a wise choice. I guess I just don't read it as muscley, although I would say that reading it as such is entirely valid.
Thanks for all the support on this one guys.
If this by chance makes it to print, I'll certainly be willing to adjust the sails on the boat up top. I drew the final line art for this from start to finish without taking a look at a boat for accuracy.

Is my interpretation of the forearm accurate, or am I just being an ass?
HeartlineTwist wrote:Is my interpretation of the forearm accurate, or am I just being an ass?
Zenne added some really terrific textures and colors throughout the design, and I believe your idea with the arm would be accurate. I never thought the arm was suppose to be devoid of skin.
For fun and comparison, here's my original line art:

Re: Sea of Dreams
What a beautiful design...I hope this prints, it's exquisite.
Re: Sea of Dreams
Why is this NOT IN THE FOG? I will kill people if it doesn't print.

Call me, with our powers combined we can be the woot police, more like woot Punishers but still...
Re: Sea of Dreams
This design deserves a print, dammit. I really thought it was going to win.
It has my vote anyway.
Re: Sea of Dreams
The stupidity of the masses is showing with this fog.
This deserves to print as well as others, but the masses win even with their tiny little minds...
Re: Sea of Dreams
It is a true injustice at shirt.woot that wearable works of art like this are falling out of the fog (not to mention a 4th place finish for that excellent steampunk entry).

This is a beautiful collab! Drakxxx, your line art is incredible and would make a pretty sweet poster, as usual. And Zenne, the color palette is spectacular, muted yet striking at the same time.
While the arm has definite striations, I don't look at them as muscle (or macabre in the slightest), but as the water's refraction. It fits the remainder of the design, IMO.
The sails don't bother me too much; yes, they are facing the stern - but unless someone comes up to peer at my chest, they aren't going to see that.
If we assume that there are additional crow's nests hidden by the main mast and mizzen mast, we could pretend it was being blown backward. However, if you want to be really nit-picky, the sails to the stern were generally lateen (triangular) rather than square.
In any case, I would wear it as is...

I'm down - let's do it! *whips out weaponry*
Re: Sea of Dreams
Hmm. I thought the arm was the coolest part of the design. Interesting how it ruins the print for others...
this is a truly beautiful design. i am in awe of this creation. great job
Re: Sea of Dreams
Beautiful artwork and color scheme!
Sigh, why isn't this in the fog? I would think that every wooter has more than enough cutsy animal shirts by now. How about some artistic shirts for a change!
I even like cutsy shirts, but I've had my fill of them...
Re: Sea of Dreams
I hope this one prints. It's a very beautiful design. Good luck Zenne and Drakxxx
.
Re: Sea of Dreams
Lovely design and great use of colors, it pulls you in the sea of dreams...
Re: Sea of Dreams
It's so sad to see this languishing outside the fog. It's a beautiful piece from you Drakxxx.
I really wanted this shirt. It's beautiful. All of the designs in the fog are so weak. It's a shame. I'll take artsy over cute any day.
This was the only entry in the current top 7 that got my vote :/ Too bad. I love your work, Drakxx!
Re: Sea of Dreams
Come onnnnnnnnnn Editor's Choice! I liked that Woot did that last time and i hope they'll do it again.
