lol. i always start with very basic colors and then complicate them to better compliment the shirt's color. but thanks for noticing.

I'm really starting to feel like I'm just not cut out for shirt design.

hah! don't give up dude! i mean you draw pretty well, and your stuff has been consistently good. maybe it's just a matter of time before that lucky hand points at you. i wish i can give you an advice, but i'm not much of an artist. hopefully some of the highly regarded artist here, like boots or drakxxxx or somebody, drops by and impart some artistically sagacious advice on what to do. if not, curse them all! curse them all to the fiery pits of some fiery ocean!!!

Ha. Boots has been quite a doll to me actually. :-) Though I still don't seem to be able to concept something that'll swing.

This design is awesome, but I don't think your thumbnail really conveys it. I almost didn't click on the thumbnail, but am now glad I did.

Yeah I'm pretty bad at choosing thumbs. Just another in the long list of reasons why I'm not advancing well in these competitions. :-D

A bit of constructive criticism:
I LOVE your style SO much (the sketchiness, the interesting color palettes)
You always tell a great story (this girl is cool, I'd love to read about her, lol)
Issues: The design lacks focus for me. (I think last week's entry did too) I feel like you filled it up with stuff that all looks cool, but it's hard to notice HOW cool, because it's in a neat little box.
Wooter (and generally I) don't like boxy designs.
I generally don't leave advice/critiques, but I REALLY love your style, and want to buy one of your shirts someday!
(P.S. I've commented on some of your previous entries, but that was with my old username)
Keep it up! You'll place in no time ![]()

P.P.S.
I think part of the lack of focus may be because the room has no floor... a light floor in an unusual shape (possibly with shadows) could have helped emphasize certain things.

I sort of comprehend the lack of focus issue... I don't totally follow the "boxy" mention.
edit: cancel that... I think I get it.
It's an illutrators glitch. I've been doing splash and marketing illustrations for so long that I've trained myself to instinctively use the entire space to control different aspects.
I suppose I have to try to let that go next time.

There's really a TON going on here. More focus would nice - something simple but not too much so. Maybe pulling your favorite elements out of this design and condensing it. There's too much for the eye to take in and it just ends up going, "oh ... cool" rather than "oh wow ... look at these 4-5 really AWESOME aspects" ...
Just a bit of input as a consumer - I know my art would never make it to the top 4 but this really has a lot of potential. Overall, great work. :-)

The art is awesome. It's true about it being hard to quickly tell what's going on and find a fast focus (you're stuck in illustrator-mode aren't you!). I think if you could solve that problem, you'd be golden. The complexity of your art with a really simple focal point would be great.
Edit: this is already great as an illustration, I'm blown away by your style.

Yeah I'm totally stuck in illustrator mode.
I'm gonna need to make a better effort next round to break that lock.
I had a second simpler idea. I may submit that tomorrow or Monday. Though I'm hesitant to bother with a late submission.

Your very good at drawing sir. After taking a look at your design here, I took a peek at your blog site you have linked, I'm thoroughly convinced.
I'm an illustrator first when it comes to this stuff as well. My best suggestion is to keep doing what you do and make the abilities you already have as an illustrator work for you in this medium, not the other way around.
Best of luck!

Thanks Draxx. I think I've reaslised where I'm faulting. Hopefully next round I'll give you a run for your money. :-)
