I decide to do the re-submission on a brown shirt, as I think it further enhances the dirty metal steampunk vibe, and I also re-did various details here and there in attempts to bring more focus into the composition.
The chances of this getting back up top are unlikely, but at least the design is back as part of steampunk woot, and for the people who liked it the first time around.
Again guys, thank you endlessly for all your support and encouragement.
Here is a link to a large composition of version 2 of the design:

Wow Draxxx, this is a huge improvement over your first shirt. I'm serious! Brown definitely fits the design better and the detail changes are great. The whole design looks more defined overall now. Some of the colors are more vivid, I see more detailed shading also. I'm really liking the new details on the robot. It's very impressive how you managed to greatly improve a design that already started out very solid and well-made. Great job!

you know, I could see where you'd be coming from if it were just the people with their Steam punk weapons and armor. I could see where you coming from it were just the gears and steam(Steam that is actually white for a change). However, both of them, along with the Steam powered Robotic Dog and the Steam powered Robot that they just caught and have chained up really tie it together as Steam Punk, IMO.
I think it's tragic that this isn't in 1st place right now, as it clearly is the best design for this theme. It just goes to show the sorry state that these derbies have become in the past 7 months.

There is maybe a design or two other than this one that is a better fit for steampunk.
Gear+steam obviously isn't steampunk, but mechanisms+Victorian garb+steam+everything else this design has going for it is definitely closer, if not a bulls-eye for steampunk.
What, specifically, doesn't make this steampunk? What is steampunk to you? What would have to be done to this design to make it steampunk in your eyes?

You know, good point. Has there always been a link to the derby on the woot.com homepage? There is one now the right side and reads "Shirt.Woot 101: The Steampunk Derby Awaits Your Judgement" and has a picture of a cog. I have never noticed a link to the derby other than the one on the shirt.woot.com page. If there has been one, well, I'm just not observant.

I would agree if the top four had any steampunk entries included. Unless, by hot and bothered, you mean that the majority of woot subscribers hate steampunk and have to check in to run up the votes on the entries that aren't.

Great to see this in the fog, but it's going to have to keep up these numbers to have a chance it's probably still 100 or more below third place. Here's hoping it can make it.

Well, designs that are perceived to have been rejected unfairly often win over extra supporters who want to "fight the man".
I'm sure the changes Drakxxx made also had something to do with it (brown shirt, general clean up on the design).

same here.
I didn't vote for this when it was first submitted because I wouldn't wear it.
But seeing it rejected was definitely upsetting.
I voted to help make sure this one gets back where it should have been all along.

The second I saw this week's theme I knew Drakxxx was going to steal the show. Your detailed designs are always so great!
I don't think I'd wear it though.. I feel like the top-hatted man demands too much attention and makes the shirt become less steampunk and gives it too much of a general fantasy novel feel.

I know this is a smidge off topic, but I would like to take the oppurtunity to remind everyone that he's got a great T looking for support at Camesa. For just about the price of a woot shirt (10 bucks plus shipping) you could get one of his best designs IMHO, with a much smaller print run than woot.
He needs 35 more people to support him and it's a go. If even a small % of people who voted for this shirt and a larger % who commented will support it, we could have it
really soon.
No I'm not Drakxxx in disguise, I just think it's a great shirt that's not getting the love. 8)

Re: Steamworks Operatica V.2
Drakxxx, I haven't bought any of your shirts before, though I've often appreciated your designs for their ability to compete with the pink-backpack mafia (ramyb and sekiyoku, mainly...I'm not saying they're not talented... I'm just saying they seem like the Linkin Park of shirt.woot designers: successful with die-hard fans, but their creations are often very similar and almost formulaic). However, despite the fact that I like your shirts I've never felt the need to comment on them before. This shirt, however, I feel is brilliant. It perfectly captures the idea of "steampunk" and displays it in a way that shows precisely why steampunk is so cool. Though it won't mean much, I'm casting my vote for this shirt because it is the only shirt in a while that I feel actually CAPTURES the topic rather than simply incorporating it. For that reason I am voting for this shirt and will encourage all other shirt.wooters to do the same, to restore glory to derbies by awarding them to those who put forth the effort to actually capture what makes a topic interesting and cool rather than to those who have established fan-bases and can produce one similar design after another and still win derbies with little to no innovation or effort. I praise this shirt not just for what it contains, but for what it represents on shirt.woot and I want to thank you for shaking the foundations of the established aristocracy of shirt.woot designers as well as helping to breathe new life into these stale derbies. Thank you.

Thanks for clearing that up, I'm sure that has been prominently displayed to me many times on Woot, hopefully I'll remember now. On another note, is there any particular reason Woot does not have a "click on user's name and see their previous entries" function? I've been wishing I could do that for some time.

Yeah I did that a little yesterday to look up entries by artist, but you have to go through by individual derby... then again maybe I'm just being a complainer. So... if SDS is actually correct and there is a tie for 3rd, what happens?

From what I understand, Shirt.Woot will actually sell both shirts on Sunday, $10 for both together - but that's hearsay ;) Can anyone verify? I couldn't find it on Shirt.Woot...
That, of course is assuming that SDS is anywhere near close.

That makes this decision harder, actually. I think Drakxxx's most vocal supporters dislike Ramy, whether for aesthetic or personal/ethical reasons.
Chances are good that even if we get a twofer on Sunday, I'll pick this up through the Friends-link on Monday to keep my conscience clean.

It is a sad commentary on who I am personally, as it is petty, but I will probably do the same. I don't want anything to do with the other shirt. I will gladly wait and pay $15 to get just Drakxxx's shirt. Besides, Drakxxx gets residuals from anything after the first day, right? Bonus!

Yes, if there is a tie, the tied shirts are sold together for the same price (i.e. $10 for both). The overall number of shirts sold will be maintained, meaning that the number of sales will be cut in half. After the first day, everything goes back to the way it was (except the reckoning will have 28 instead of 27 the following week).

That is a ridiculous and almost indefensible statement. Yes "Girl in Red" was a cool shirt, but it had almost nothing to do with Steampunk. So, you could say "I preferred Girl in Red" or "I wish Girl in Red had won," but if you are talking about anything more than personal preference then clearly relevance to the theme makes you dead wrong.

The responses to the above post are simply hilarious.
Get over it, guys. I will now say that the voting MAJORITY of Woot couldn't give two flying penguins about the theme. I am almost going to agree that if I am judging Girl in Red and this by what I think looks good on a t-shirt, the race is a lot closer than if I'm judging it by what has a better adherence to theme.
I mean, even if it's not what I would prefer, I can at least recognize that the theme doesn't take precedence over "that looks neat" when it comes to the majority of voters.
As for whether that's a bad thing or not is a harder call past the fact that if the theme is merely a suggestion or guideline, why even bother? Make the themes hyper-vague then and be done with it.

well i agree that you should vote on what you would like to see on a tee and what you would actually buy and wear... but as for the theme Woot! is the real one to blame for this sad derby. they should have rejected all the off topic shirts from the beginning... granted we may have only had a hand full to vote on but hey that's what rules are for, if you don't want to fallow the rules then you shouldn't play the game! i had high hopes for this derby but was royally let down!! were there great looking shirts?? Heck yea!!! but were there a lot of really great looking steampunk shirts?? nope! not many at all B^(

no worries, really. A lot of the design incorporates the color of the shirt, so you aren't wearing a huge glob of ink on your chest. I've got Drakxxx's dragon slayer, which looks like it would be heavy but it feels/looks great.

Actually, there does seem to be a lot of ink on this one. I hadn't noticed it before. Dragon Slayer has the advantage of being on a lighter coloured shirt, whereas with this design they'll first have to lay down an extra layer of white ink. However, I believe there have been several shirts printed relatively recently that use just as much or more ink with nary* a complaint of non-breathability. Maybe Woot is using better ink or a better process or something?

I've also got 'get on the mike', and the whole middle is a couple layers of ink, but it also feels great. You may not want wear this to track practice, but most of woot!'s shirts can be worn in everyday situations.

Well I apologize for being vague.
I realized later that operaticustopie was clearly more steampunk than girl in red, I just don't personally find operaticus to be quality art.
