Re: Shoot for the Mooooon

I like the white outline and the use of the royal blue shirt. I need a royal blue shirt!

Very cute and clever. I do like this one.

One confusing aspect though... this color looks nothing like the royal blue I see in my templates, or in other royal blue design comps I've seen in pretty much every derby... what you used is veryyy different. I think both deeper and MUCH bolder/brighter.

Vote!

When I pulled the royal blue for this, it kept coming out like a violet for some reason, and I certainly didn't want it to be rejected for being purple. I don't know what the deal is with the royal color. I tried multiple times to get it right. I'll certainly still play with it, in the event it gets rejected. It's a new shirt layout I'm using now, so I have to have the right color in the background. But I do thank you for trying to stay atop of that. If it's decided the color is too far from the royal blue t-shirts I have and tried to go off (since the Pantone kept coming out violet) I'll have something to replace it with.

here. is this better, jasneko?

Much better... still a bit different, but much closer to all the royals I've seen than what you have posted.
What the actual tee colors are/all the different comp tees are so confusing. Which woot would fix/clarify it once and for all so designs could match the shirts properly as well!

Well, that IS the pantone color they suggest, but it just looks so off to me, even with my screens calibrated. This is why I always used someone else's comps for stuff. But after repeated complaints for Drakxxx's colors being off using those same comps, I figured I should just stop using my beloved comp. This one is simply a shadowed outline and I need to insert the correct color (supposedly eliminating the issue, but as we can see, it only makes for more questions.)

Edit:
May I also note, that despite woot suggesting 7455 C as the color we should use for Royal blue mock ups, they don't follow their own color selection. I just checked Dekon's most recent shirt print on Royal (as well as the daily that printed the same week) and they both come out at 653 C.

They both seem really off to me; the new one seems a bit too pale or pastel. What seems to be the problem with taking the eyedropper to Woot's official template? If the problem is the prohibitive file size, I can upload a smaller, more reasonably sized image for you.

Read the edited post above.
it's not that I can't get the color they suggest. It's that the colors are still wrong compared to what they mock up on print day.

Woot's shirt colours aren't pantone colours. They've given pantone approximates, but the actual colours provided in the official template (the ones they use for their sales comps) aren't pantones. That's why it's best just to eyedropper from their template.

That, or eyedropper from their official sales comps.

See... just one more reason... BLEH

I'll see what I can come up with. I shouldn't have to eyedropper it. If you give a Pantone color, it should be on (or as close to on as humanly possible).

Hmm... I'm not sure if what I said was misleading or not, but here's the post I was talking about (and it was a pain to find):

joelterrific wrote:Superspryte

I need to correct you somewhat here. See, we didn't actually change the Pantone colors. The swatches in the templates are correct. The issue has always been finding a screen color that matches what you see on a swatch with what you see on the screen. Anyone versed in color management knows this is a fools errand really, what with different monitors, etc.

We've had a lot of trouble with Photoshop's (or Illustrator for that matter) approximation of Pantone colors. Barbara spent a good amount of time matching with a color corrected light and calibrated monitor to get these as close as we can. But I reiterate, the Pantone colors have not changed, only the screen colors we use to represent them.

Here's the list she has so diligently put together:

Navy #0B1C1E / Pantone 532
Baby Blue #9EBDE3 / Pantone 644
Red #C60C30 / Pantone 186
Orange #DC4634 / Pantone 7417
Olive #566423 / Pantone 5753
Brown #332B1B / Pantone 7519
Heather Gray #BABCBE / Pantone Cool Gray 6
Asphalt #3D434A / Pantone 432
Creme #F1E4D1 / Pantone 482
Lemon #FFF799 / Pantone 602
Royal Blue #2A569D / Pantone 7455
Kelly Green #057A49 / Pantone 3415
Grass #73AF55 / Pantone 7489
Cranberry #790B29 / Pantone 202
White #FFFFFF / White
Black #000000 / Pantone Black

So ok, pantones are pantones, but the hex values Woot uses to represent the pantones are not necessarily the values in Photoshop or whatever other program.

yeah no kidding... By the by... I was right, the pantone selection they offer is WAY off. 653 C is closest, Pantone speaking. I'll fix it on my entry.

woot is stinks. Get the colors right, guys. ::facepalm::

This Brian guy clearly didn't know the difference in distance between the stars and the moon... what a tool!

Hehehe... My favorite part is the little earth he came from. (oh and the little things around his head!)

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! If you knew who gave me the idea, you'd laugh even more at that quote XD

Yeah, I had an extra color open and even though it was hinted that I not draw in the earth, it only made sense to me to give the proper trajectory. Plus, it made the swirly things around his head stand out.

My favourite part is the cow. Nice reference to the nursery rhyme, so it's like two quotations in one design.

The first few places I went to confirm the quote said Brian Littrell. I've found a couple of others that say it was Les Brown.

I'm actually more tempted to say it was Les Brown, but I haven't been able to confirm which said the actual quote.

Re: Shoot for the Mooooon

This shirt made me chuckle (which has been hard to do lately with my stupid laryngitis), but I am mot voting for this because I'm seeing quite a few graphic design flaws.

First and most obviously, the huge star the hapless cow crashed into is sitting right below the bust area, which is not the most attractive spot for women. Second of all, the dashed line that shows the cow's trajectory path is leading our eyes down towards the stomach and not upward, nearer to the face. (Yes, this is important on a shirt due to the fact that it's clothing and that the clothing shouldn't detract too much from our own faces.)

On a positive side, I'm loving the bright, childish colors, and the dashed line puts the "story" across clearly.

I'm telling you this not that I hate you as a desinger or your style, but so you are aware of your own mistakes and can avoid them here on. That's constructive critism for you.

I feel that you were not at your best when you cranked out this design, as many artists do go though times where some art they produce is not up to par with their own skills. (I've seen this with fablefire, Drakxx, Boots, even tgentry.)

I'll be looking forward to your next design and hope it goes better next time.

(Ugh, such a long post!)

My woot! purchases: The Original Blue Hedgehog; To The Top in the Style of Da Vinci; Deforestation; The Owliminator; Yeti & Robot; Electronica (The holy grail of all shirts... THE SYNTH SHIRT! Wahoo! ^.^)
...and 1 Random. (I hope Woot! doesn't pull another Random Roulette on me for a long time; I need to hang on to my money!)

If there are any repeat posts, blame my stupid computer!

If I had to pick a quote from the Backstreet Boys, it would be:

"Quit playing games with my heart"

or

"But my love is all I have to give. Without you I don't think I can live. I wish I could give the world to you...but Love is all I have to give "

or even

"I don't care who you are. Where you're from. What you did. As long as you love me."

OH GOSH! Why do I know all these songs!?!?! DARN YOU pop music and your catchy tunes!!!!

I was going to truncate this, but I decided not to, on account that you make really good points that I tried really hard to fix before submitting.

I tried to work the placement so the star wasn't in a precarious placement, as well as the moon. As for the trajectory, It seemed to make more sense flying down than across (which, I would have had more trouble with both sides of the shirt having that dual precarious placement issue.), so I did try to keep that in mind. And seeing that I am the busty type, I DO keep that in mind.

I am glad the color scheme worked for you, though. I really liked that childlike palette.

I may work on another piece this weekend/tonight. Hopefully something less precariously placed. XD

I do thank you for your critique, though. I appreciate when people are willing to actually tell me what they see as an issue with a design rather than just "it embrangles" or "boobs".

I was about to post the EXACT same thing! This quote does not come from Brian Littrell in the slightest! It's originally from Les Brown, a inspirational speaker. And it wasn't even that inspirational when he said it- having a boy bander say it made it even less so!
