Ha. The more I look at it the more I like it. Great use of motion (in the visual arts sense) to direct the viewer's eye and, in turn, tell a story. I like the nods to the mystery genre (red herring..) and you can't beat the surprise ending. Well made!

GMV simply because it comes by far the closest to what I envisioned as my own submission were I semi-talented enough to take a [ahem] stab at it.
Yes, the red herring, the rope, smoking gun, etc. (but not yet another Clue board game reference) The other two elements in my mind's eye is an owl asking "who?" though not literally of course due to the no text clause. Finally, the whole image would be framed within the lens of a magnifying glass.
Again, mystery artist, great job and hope you finish in the top three!

Mysterious hotel. Guests include a portly man and his dog, a gentleman with a top hat and a young newlywed couple. The husband is murdered. A gun is found at the scene of the crime.
Enter detective. Clues are found.
Through a keyhole, the detective observes the young widow in a tryst with the gentleman. His fashionable headwear is suspiciously stained red. Could the pair have committed the foul crime? As it turns out, the stain was from a spilled glass of red wine. Alas, the whole affair was nothing but a red herring.
Ah, but the gun is identified as belonging to the portly man; his fingerprint is found on the weapon. The man hangs himself... out of guilt? Is the case solved?
But then a bone is found on top of the bookshelf. Suddenly, all the puzzle pieces fall into place...
Hmm, I can't think of a good reason for why the portly man hung himself. But yeah, I think I'm in for one when it prints. It'll be my first tgentry.

I think we're ok. The fourth spot has been going back and forth between the cats and the big foot bunny. Of course, things can change.

achickta wrote:he went to the hotel to commit suicide. the dog stole his gun so he used a rope.
Here is what happened, for anyone that cares:
The night before the events in question, the toff, portly man was awakened by mysterious sounds coming from the first floor of his sprawling mansion. He snatched up his trusty London Pepper-box revolver and a kerosene lantern and crept his way down the large spiral staircase (he could only assume the revolver was trusty as he'd never had occasion to actually test it's dependability, being a well-to-do respectable swell of a gentleman). The sounds were coming from his office. He peeked through the door but could hear nothing but that horrible noise. Emboldened by the barker in his hand and a daffy of scotch still in his belly, he burst into the room ready to unload a round into some glocky burglar's ugly pie hole!!! Instead he found his pet schnauzer chewing on a bone. He laughed at the thought of accidentally blowing the poor animal to Kingdom Come, then paused to consider if the idea in fact had merit. Instead he thoughtlessly tossed the revolver down on the sofa and put the bone on a bookshelf where it would torment his sleep no more.
The following night's events are well established above. Guests of the man included his best friend, his best friend's wife, and the man in the hat whom one can only assume is the portly man's lawyer. After a round of drinks, the guests all adjourn for fresh air. It's then that the fatal shot is fired. The dog, having the night before taken the gun and stashed it in a secret place, like dogs do, had taken it out for an evening chew. The portly man's best friend was in the act of searching for his wife, who had curiously gone missing. It was then that he caught a face full of St. Peter's Needle courtesy of a chainfiring revolver.
The detective brought in initially suspects the lawyer when he spots his scarlet stained top hat. The motive is surmised when he eyes the lawyer canoodling with the dead man's wife in a hidden room, accessible only by a srew. But this proves to be a dead end. The stain is only wine, spilled during the couple's previous rendezvous.
It's here that the detective stumbles upon the portly man who's hanged himself. Using forensic techniques recently promoted by Sir Francis Galton, the detective lifts so-called
"finger-prints" from the gun that match the hanged man's body. The case is all but closed, but the lingering question of motive remains. While rummaging the portly man's office for clues of motive, the detective spots a rather curious oddity: a chewed up bone on a tall bookcase. He examines it closely and notes the chew marks on the bone bear more than a passing resemblance to the notched marks on the offending weapon! Everything slides into place. The portly man had committed suicide because he felt guilt that he was the owner of the weapon and the schnauzer that fired it. The detective confidently announces the culprit and they take the dog away in shackles and have him put down, because he's an evil murdering dog. This was the 1890's and rehabilitation wasn't really an option then.
That sums it up. Good job to Ehalcyon for figuring (almost) all of it out.

You are definitely not the only wooter who feels like this. It's just too much, too often, at this point. For every helpful/constructive/good post from her, there's 18 sarcastic/negative/condescending/sniping posts as well.
Maybe it's not your or my place, but since she thinks it's her place to pick at everyone else, aren't we just following her example? In the worst way of course, and I hope I don't address such things beyond this miserable derby. But your post had the same sentiment I felt this morning reading through the threads and almost posted (though I would have skipped the first sentence with the curse). And people might rush to her defense again, but just know you're not alone in noticing and dreading the never-ending, constantly present, sniping and picking.
And designer, this shirt does rock.
Good day/night.

I'm all for the shirt. It's very well done. The shirt is better than what's in the fog at the moment.
My comment was joking, but if everyone insists on taking my sarcasm as a b-fest, you really don't know how to read me. And most of the time either I will bluntly point out the problem with a shirt (ie.: too many colors, incorrect shirt color, too big/incorrect layout for print, ect...) or I'll be more helpful as I tried with the Pi entry that got rejected. HOWEVER, I easily get tired of people who refuse to read over and over again and will continue to argue when they are clearly wrong.
And Junka, regardless if you are a new person or someone's alt for the purpose of this week's ridiculous competition, you're out in left field.... way left field. I do try to help first.
and ***, I apologize for this happening in your thread, it has nothing to do with your design. I've said it once and I'll say it again, very well done and I can't wait to see you print.
