That Was a Long Time Ago
Gah, I was planning to sit this one out again but the drawing bug bit me.

That darn drawing bug;)
Lovely.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
That is really amazing. It's another I'd love to see printed first but Devil's in the Details came out great as you said it would so I'm down. Really love the mantis as well.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Very cool work. Love the realism and the concept. ![]()

I'll gladly send you a bug repellant, hahah. I kidd, I kidd. This is like how I want my steak, well done! ![]()

Sit one out? We just figured you had moved onto interior design at the Woot offices.

Woot offices could definitely use a makeover:

Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Lovely work.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Beautiful. Your color choices are always lovely. I think this is my favorite palette from you. ![]()
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
This turned out really cool, T!
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
perhaps one of your best. nice.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Very impressive, Travis. It's nice to see artsy pieces like this come from such a cartoonish theme.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
I don't like the shirt, mostly because I really don't like this theme. That being said, the illustration and texture are outstanding.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Incredible illustration and details. The praying mantis is a nice touch.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Gorgeous. So evocative, and something that adults can wear.
re: that was a long time ago
wow. i'm definitely glad I stuck with my plan to take a week off. this illustration is up there with your threadless win. incredible.
kylemittskus wrote:I don't like the shirt, mostly because I really don't like this theme...
Did someone have bad school experiences?
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
wow. this is so intricate and beautiful. VERY impressive.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
reminds me of the scene in "Logan's Run ", when they Run into the old man.
Beautiful, but I find it very depressing. ...Maybe since it's been so long since I left school behind.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Bizarrely cool. The title reminds me of that David Byrne song "A Long TIme Ago" and the implied story here reminds me of the Talking Heads song "Nothing but Flowers"
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
A...ma...ZING!!!
Great linework as always. PRINT!! PRINT!!
lucky1988 wrote:Incredible illustration and details. The praying mantis is a nice touch.
I second that. Love the praying mantis and your textures and colors are great.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
This is just such a unique entry. Glad to see you back!
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
+1 very nice design! I also like the praying mantis :P
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Another great design from you, tgentry. Great use of color. Green on green can be jarring, but these colors blend beautifully, and create a sort of eerie effect that tells a story with such a simple image.

Beautiful

ahhhhhhh...talking heads. you're full of good taste rg
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
We were school supply shopping this week and I wanted to pick up the pencil sharpener as shown in your pic... but my husband wouldn't let me... said we should teach our son the manual way. (sigh) This shirt brings back such memories of school.
imsochady wrote:I'll gladly send you a bug repellant, hahah. I kidd, I kidd. This is like how I want my steak, well done!
Bahahaha! Very clever=D
Love it! I'm glad you didn't take off this week!
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Stunning illustration as always sir. And the concept is so true. We should make one like this with traditional art supplies.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Gaaahh. I am so jealous of your amazing amazing drawing skills. As a senior in college though, I dunno if I could rightly wear this. I still use some of this stuff...
Great job... only thing it's missing is a slide rule...
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
i like it
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
I think the design is amazing but the colours will not work at all. I used a much darker green on "A Wonderful Day" and it's barely, barely visible. The dark green in this design is far more subtle.
If it prints, I really hope it turns out well... but I don't think it will. =\
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
I really hope this prints okay... if it does, I don't know if I'd want to wear it since I'm still in school haha, but this is a beautiful design nevertheless!

I think we used the exact same color green: 5747C. If it prints like yours did I think it will fine:
It won't pop off the shirt, but with a design like this I don't think it necessarily should. It would be nice if woot would give a more accurate template color for olive though.

Photoshop.

I find the dark green on "A Wonderful Day" far less visible in person, actually, and it would be more tricky with yours because the lines are thin whereas the buildings in mine were just a large mass. But I do hope it works out because this design is really some amazing art.

While the lines are thinner, they are also mostly surrounded by other colors to frame them with. Hopefully if it does print it will print very nicely. This might be one of those "wait and see" designs. Even if it's subtle I'd be fine with that given the subject matter and tone of the design.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Delicious.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Cool I have a new colored square! Purple. The color of passion and 50-99 woots.
tgentry wrote:Cool I have a new colored square! Purple. The color of passion and 50-99 woots.
Haha, I was just noticing that. Nice of woot to expand a little for those 'over-25' wooters ^_^
I love this shirt! It first grabbed my attention because of the colors - I'm in such serious need of more olive that I find myself wishing I could bring myself to vote for lesser designs just to get them (hasn't happened though - just can't bring myself to compromise on design that far).
Luckily, your shirt is gorgeous and I love it. If the fog stays as is, I'm hoping I might get not one, but TWO awesome olive shirts this week... from a derby I didn't think I would be interested in.
Well, I am starting grad school this fall (part time, as a working adult)... I've been out of college for several years, so maybe it's time for a little school spirit to get me ready ^_^
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
I like the pipe. Something about pipes make me think of smart people...unless they are blowing bubbles instead of pipe smoke...

Or purple passionfruit and wootabagas.

It's not just shirts - the count also includes woots from the other sites.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
I agree. Wow.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
This is beautiful and sad and a little creepy all at the same time. It reminds me of walking through the Mayan ruins and seeing how the jungle had overgrown structures to the point where they started blending into the landscape. And then you wonder where the people went.
This has that same sort of feeling, except there weren't a whole lot of pencil sharpeners left behind by the Mayans.
moosejoose wrote:I like the pipe. Something about pipes make me think of smart people...unless they are blowing bubbles instead of pipe smoke...
Er it was brought to my attention that it's not a pipe...it's a compass....

Beautiful Job TG

Pipe? Ahh yes, I rememeber buying my pipe for new school year. Of course I did use mine for bubbles...
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
I really really like the color scheme of this, and all the stuff is really cool but the flowers really make it for me, it's a superb design! gmv
In California, this shirt can have political implications!

Well, I seemed to have lost my other olive shirt, but I still have high hopes for yours!
By the way, I received my Some BBQ shirt today. Looks great!
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
this is a completely captivating design--i really hope you do well in the derby! and even if you don't, i now have a cool wallpaper for my office computer. thanks <=b
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Your the man TG!!
I love it.
Re: That Was a Long Time Ago
Thanks for the opportunity to share the fog with you this week. Regardless of the outcome, your illustrations are both inspired and artistically well crafted. It has been an honor to run against you.
Good luck and as always, I look forward to your next entry.
re: that was a long time ago
I go back to college after five years on the 8th. This is definitely a "buy."
I LOVE this shirt. I'm a teacher (and a fan of your shirts, I wear Devil in the Details quite often) and I can't wait to get this! Awesome work, thanks!
