Re: I love my new blue suede shoes
lol votey woteyed indeed.
Re: I love my new blue suede shoes
Now it's not only a horrible shirt; it makes no sense!
Re: I love my new blue suede shoes
Sadly, I must agree that this just doesn't work anymore.
Perhaps it would work better the other way around: Sonic without his shoes has now lost his blue color but is now blue because he's slow. You can make him a couch potatoe while you're at it ![]()

Well, ok, I'll put a more charitable spin on it. It's a well-done, cute illustration that doesn't make much sense as a shirt design anymore. Blue suede shoes? The turtle is into Elvis?
I hope you can rework the turtle and bring him back in a future derby, fable, b/c there really is something lovable about the little guy.
Re: I love my new blue suede shoes
you'd get rejected again because the only thing that is on topic here is the blue shoe which doesn't mean anything. seki got rejected for the blue bird. the shoes could be any color. what is your blue representing?

If you have an idea for him let me know (even if you just want him with the red shoes like you mentioned in the other thread, sans hedgehog). I can tweak it and put it up on MySoti for you without waiting for a new turtle-friendly derby theme.
@ iim - As for what's on topic, woot has shot themselves in the foot this week. Seki's bird was the only blue thing in the entry. The only blue thing in "A Clue" is a blue paw print. Are murder scenes generally blue? If it's acceptable to reference a blue character, then my previous Sonic reference should've been on topic. I would say this version is at least as on theme as the Blue Orchid, because the item in my image is a pair of Blue Suede shoes. The Van Gogh imitation is also not blue-themed, except for colors used, nor are at least a dozen other entries I can think of off the top of my head.
I think both versions are on theme. Woot is Woot though. Who is to say what they'll think is on theme? ;)
Also thanks to those who supported both the last version and/or this version. =)
Re: I love my new blue suede shoes
shouldn't he/she/it have four shoes?
fablefire wrote:"I love my new blue suede shoes"
blue suede sneakers, huh? they've gotta be pumas or adidas...

Re: I love my new blue suede shoes
I liked the one with the hedgehog better. Just put the 'fast' shoes image on a blue shirt and I would vote for it.
Re: I love my new blue suede shoes
i like the turtle, but yeah it really makes no sense lol... i'd still buy it but it really could be a lot better. like your your other shirt "you have to try this guys". i LOVE that shirt. i'm hoping for another great shirt from you, featuring this turtle!

I am buying the "You have to try this guys." from the reckoning! I keep looking at it and saying it will be my next shirt and now today is that day...the tough part is should I get it for my wife, 4 year old daughter or myself?
Keep up the great designs.
Re: I love my new blue suede shoes
Ok this is getting insane. How can you reject this one when it clearly uses blue? Be more specific in your rejections.
While not the BEST use of blue it certainly wasn't terrible. That is why we vote is it not?

fable, I'll think on it, but right now I guess I only have one idea. You have the turtle as he is now, clutching his shoes lovingly, and then he thought balloons to an image of himself crossing a finish line just in front of a suitably athletic-looking rabbit. Maybe you could even go nuts and have a trail of flames behind the turtle to signify speed, like the tracks of flame the DeLorean left behind when it time-traveled.
The fact that he's thought-ballooning leaves it to the viewer to decide whether the event in question actually happened or not.
I know, I know, other people will say, "not another bunny design", but it's funny (or, at least, I think it's funny, in theory). But, you know, I'm not a designer, it could just as well be a terrible idea ![]()

It might just be my monitor (or my eyes!) but it looks to me like it's on a black tshirt not any color of blue...could that be why it was rejected?

i say:
the difference that i see is that the character referenced in "a clue" is actually named 'blue'. ya know, 'blue's clues?' it's a cartoon with a dog named blue.
that's what i got.

Here's my personal take on this controversial week of rejections. I think they are trying to reject things where the blue is inconsequential or highly secondary to what's going on in the design. Regarding some of your points:
- With the Blue's Clues one, the fact that the paw print is blue is completely critical to what's being presented. Any other color and the parody would not makes sense.
- The fact that the hatching bird is blue isn't really consequential to the rest of the design from a visual or conceptual standpoint. It could literally be any color of bird. I can see someone claiming my own entry with the lemurs could fall under this category. My own reasoning for why it doesn't is that I chose a very specific blue related animal and tied the blues of the eyes in with the blues of the night sky. I think in my entry this mash up of different blues works as a "study in the color blue" as described in the rules. This is a subjective call of course, but I think the color blue is front and center in that design. With the orchid one the blues are literally a background element and the primary focus of the design (the hummingbird) is unrelated to blues.
- As far as the Sonic/Turtle entry, the fact that Sonic is blue is not what the design is about in any way, it's about Sonic's fast shoes. I think Ramyb's (?) design where a hedgehog is painting himself blue would have not been rejected because it's actually dealing with the color itself as the topic. I don't think the issue is referencing a blue character, it's referencing a blue character without making a comment about his/her/it's blueness, whether it be their color itself or that the character is sad or depressed (like the Cookie Monster one)
- I do agree about the witching hour design, I don't see any kind of reference to blue other than the color being in the design.
Looking at what's been rejected I personally feel woot could stand by each one as not having to deal with the color blue specifically. I would agree there are more up there that could be rejected on these grounds though.

that is a very good idea, I'd certainly like that, though the art in this one caught my eye, kudos on a otherwise great shirt
