Re: Sakura by the cliff
Pretty.
Rejected because: No print-ready art provided.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
Pretty.
love it, i wish shirt.woot would put things on v-necks though, this would look so good.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
As soon as I read the title of the derby, a similar image popped to mind. Naturally, this GMV =D
Re: Sakura by the cliff
SO pretty. I can't see this one not fogging. GMV.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
This would be perfect to wear for yoga ![]()
Re: Sakura by the cliff
I'm really drawn to the colors in this one. I really like the top half of the design a lot, but the bottom of it sort of bothers me a little. Overall I think this makes a great shirt, I just find it hard to tell what's going on towards the bottom of the design.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
Looks like a bunch of vector pieces and clip art, but regardless it looks nice, and that's all that matters I suppose.

I think it's an inkwell at the bottom.
My question is what the shirt color is supposed to be.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
I have a thing for wildlife/nature shirts.. although the ink pot is not my favorite the rest of it is visually appealing and I'd definitely wear it.
HalfWheat wrote:I think it's an inkwell at the bottom.

I saw the inkwell, but the part right above that just didn't make a lot of sense to me.
cmdixon2 wrote:I saw the inkwell, but the part right above that just didn't make a lot of sense to me.
Ah. I'm seeing that as either an ink spill, and someone came along and started doodling from the spill, or the ink was left open and this just spontaneously created itself from the fog of ink that came up from the inkwell.
This design may be suffering from the comparison with Totally Awesome Deer...it's got some of the same elements, but this one is more delicate. If someone asked me to choose between the two, I think I'd take this one.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
This one is always just one or two spots out of the Fog every time I look...come on, come on, I really want to buy it!
Re: Sakura by the cliff
Beautiful! This screams 'haiku' to me somehow.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
It reminds me of this.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
I've never bought a shirt from woot cause I just got my first job and opened my bank account and got my debit card, but I really hope this makes it, cause I'd buy it hands down.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
This is such a beautiful shirt!
Awesome creativity here ![]()

Just so we can see it, here is what it looks like:
Now as to say if that is too similar or not, we will have to see I guess.

It is to similar in my personal opinion. It's nice, but not as nice as the shirt on Threadless, and I'm still convinced the majority of this design was created with clipart / vector placements. Not that these practices aren't allowed in the derby, as past prints have proven, I just personally will never be inclined to vote on something that isn't completely original.

They only thing they have in common is that it's a scene coming from an ink bottle, and that idea has been around forever and is already represented in all sorts of different mediums. So in my opinion, it's not a big deal. Since tons of shirts on Threadless are just internet photos, that inkwell shirt may just be another Google image photo planted on a shirt. ;P
Re: Sakura by the cliff
I like the color choices with the blue and red A LOT. I think that the black splotches at the bottom above the inkwell, and the inkwell itself actually, are absolutely HORRIBLE. And I think it is rather similar to the Threadless shirt.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
The first time I saw this I thought the exact same thing about the ink splotches. I think if that had been cleaned up a little it would have swayed me a bit more to vote for it. As far as the other shirt--I don't think they are too terribly similar, or not enough to warrant rejection.
But the ink spills...
Re: Sakura by the cliff
I knew I'd eventually see something knock Drak's design out of the fog during this derby, that was inevitable, but I find it a real shame that a spork and this ho-hum montage of leaves and what ever were the ones to do it.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
Hasn't the whole ink-pot/ink-pen spilling design thing been done to death already?
bluetuba wrote:Hasn't the whole ink-pot/ink-pen spilling design thing been done to death already?
Apparently not. Having observed the derby trends, voters seem to LOVE mediocrity, and will eagerly gobble up designs that are almost identical to ones they already have. It's quite sad really.
bluetuba wrote:Hasn't the whole ink-pot/ink-pen spilling design thing been done to death already?
my sentiments exactly.
Geisha Snake Tattoo

I think it's beautifully done. It's definitely the only shirt in the fog I would buy.
Soooooooooooooooooooooo, I received and wore my Totally Awesome Deer shirt today (http://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=9610). After looking at this I couldn't help but thinking "Do we REALLY need another deer on a cliff with cherry blossoms shirt??"
Re: Sakura by the cliff
Beautiful Image... Would definitely buy!!!
Re: Sakura by the cliff
I would definitely buy this if it was made
Re: Sakura by the cliff
I can't believe that this was rejected because of "no print ready picture available".
sgoman5674 wrote:I can't believe that this was rejected because of "no print ready picture available".
I'm beginning to suspect that woot is starting to reject designs just because they don't, personally, want to print them. I'm all in favor of this.

I agree that rejecting on the grounds that they don't want to print something would be a welcome change.
However, I am surprised that no art was provided. Makes me wonder what happened to the designer :/
sgoman5674 wrote:I can't believe that this was rejected because of "no print ready picture available".
Dayum. That's gotta suck.
Rules is rules. Shame it was in the fog, but print-ready art is supposed to be in by Thursday morn, if I recall correctly.
Well that's disappointing. I was getting pumped to be able to buy another derby shirt after a while of garbage.
Wish this could've made it through.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
Well, that's a shame. I should hope there is a very good reason for this, but my inner cynic is yelling otherwise. So much for this week then.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
I'm disappointed too, but print ready art has to be in by Thursday, and not having it forces woot's hands...And my wife would have looked so good in this design...
Re: Sakura by the cliff
Why the HECK is this shirt rejected? What does "no print-ready art provided" even mean? I'm getting pretty tired of this website for sometimes rejected the most awesome shirts. I voted for this one when it was in the fog, I was going to buy it when it finished in the top three. But now you have lost a customer. Me and hundreds of other people. Did you hear that "shirt.woot.com"? You have just lost money! If you people were anywhere close to being intelligent you would have left it in the fog.

Actually, I can kinda understand why it was rejected. I was really ready to buy it. Oh well. It'll be a while until another derby with cool potential like this one comes around. Sorry for my rant a few minutes ago. I'm still kinda pissed about it though.

If they don't have the file to print, they can't print it. What would you like them to do exactly?
EDIT: Just saw your follow-up. Nevermind!

If you like these kinds of shirts, you shouldn't have to wait too long for another to come around. Just be patient.

I think (and hope) that woot is willing to concede this a bit, actually. For instance:
they recently banned video game references in derbies, essentially rejecting an easy way for them to get profits.
They've rejected two frontrunning designs by kdeuce in a row.
They rejected that sekiyoku bird design from the blue derby that was probably on its way to print.
Woot's shown they're willing to be very strict with their rules, even if that means rejecting popular designs. I think that's a very good thing.

I like the idea that Woot will be strict with their rules as long as they are consistently strict, and fair about the way they make rejections.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
If you guys are going to be pissed at somebody it should be the artist for not providing the files Woot needs to print his shirt. Has he even posted in this thread? Is he aware of what's going on?
bluetuba wrote:If you guys are going to be pissed at somebody it should be the artist for not providing the files Woot needs to print his shirt. Has he even posted in this thread? Is he aware of what's going on?
He said that he uploaded it with his original form and as far as he knew, it went through without a hitch.
Re: Sakura by the cliff
Man... for the first time I was going to buy more than 1 shirt too. =[
HalfWheat wrote:I like the idea that Woot will be strict with their rules as long as they are consistently strict, and fair about the way they make rejections.
And they did say, a couple derbies ago, that going forward entries without printreadies by X time would be rejected.
Given Drakxxx's fog time (under an hour) it seems they were VEEERY generous.
I hope this continues for all derbies, though. And I hope it continues to infuriate the people who need to get a little fury in their diet after the hundred odd derbies their sense of mediocrity has run rampant. Woot is not about selling your shirt. It is about selling a shirt every day. Preferably a good one.
As the Rolling Stones said in the 60s, you can't always get what you want. And if you try sometimes, they do not postulate that you might find that whining like a baby helps. They postulate that you'll get what you need.
Man, that really leaps into the vacuum. I've been looking forward to buying this shirt all week.
soldoutd - please let us know if this prints elsewhere.

look for it to be submitted under the name "radiomode" on some other website
