Derby #117: Halloween

The Embrace

I don't want to reject it, because it's funny, but it's just not incidental text.

Geeze, Tjost, didn't TruffleShuffle have a muppet Count idea in the derby threads? Odd that you'd come up with this, after he was told it wasn't a wise idea.

Re: The Embrace

Oh my gosh when i was in high school I knew a guy who did the voice PERFECTLY and his favorite thing to say was 'one b_tch, a ha ha. two b_tches! a ha ha ha ha' It was stupid but hilarious just to hear him say it.

Anyway I love the count and I love you for making this shirt. Hope it won't get booted!

Re: The Embrace

I think one sesame street shirt is quite enough. This really isn't the place for consistently submitting fan art.

There used to be text here! But now I realize I was wrong.

I agree. You going to be making money off a Cookie Monster shirt for god knows how long. Have some tact, and give the Sesame Street stuff a rest. Let's see what you can come up with that's yours.

I like this design less now that I remember he made the cookie monster shirt too; and realized the same thing you wrote.

That was my point to begin with. As far as I know the only two submissions by this artist are sesame street designs. A little fan art here and there with sufficient parody is just fine but we really need to see some original work.

Right, I would have thought the same thing but unfortunately I didn't until it was pointed out that it was the same designer (I tend to forget these things if I don't buy the shirt in question.)

I appreciate your guys concern with this, I've actually had this idea waaaay before submitting anything to woot and I thought this might be a chance to use it. Actually it was mre like castlevania in my head but since no game references I altered it. I might take it down though if there's more outcry, honestly though it probably wont make it past the rejectionator though. Sorry if I iratated you guys.

I actually have done 8 subs and only 2 have had anything to do with muppets. The last derby I did I did the igor harvest which got an honorable mention and the dream harvester what was very painterly.

No problem. You work is good and it's always nice to have fresh artists. I for one and I know of many others come for shirts that are unique and original that you can't get anywhere else and that's what we hope to see.

edit:

I'll have to check out your other ones.

To be fair, this artist has done a few other designs that weren't parody related. I do see your point, however. I think this one might get rejected for non-incidental text anyway. The design works without it, but the Count wouldn't be as identifiable. Could go either way, I reckon.

Tjost had a couple in the Blue derby that were quite good and not Muppet related. I particularly liked "Earth Juice".

That one was really nice. The colors were amazing. i also liked the Igor's Harvest. I just didn't realize those were tjost. I love how easy SDS makes it to track artists and their submissions.

I dig it. It's funny, it's subtle, and it's on theme. I too, am normally against people submitting the same reference stuff over and over, but this is well done enough to warrant an exception.
To those picking on this, go back to picking on Seki and Ramy---they are the ones submitting the same junk for the 30th time, not the 2nd time. Have some grace. Good chance this will get rejected anyway.

Re: The Embrace

How is "12" a slogan shirt?

It IS incidental text because the text is involved in an incident. :P

I totally could have seen this as today's shirt.woot is brought to you by the numbers Von and two. LOL

I would have loved this shirt still don't see why it was rejected. Incidental text to me is slipping in actual words in this case the numbers are part of the drawing as objects.
