YES! Greatest Halloween film in years. I was seriously blown away by how fantastic Trick r Treat was.
I saw some images of Sam before I actually got to see the movie, and the character inspired me to do this design.

Re: I Like Candy
I like this one the best of your 3 this week, even though they are all truly amazing. The other 2 are impressively detailed/intricate and seem very laborious, but I just like the wickedly cute feel of this one the best. The bat is definitely a really nice touch - was that one of those things that you just kinda stuck in there, then thought to yourself, "wow, that's pretty neat - I'm so glad that I came up with that!"
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of a graphic tablet do you use? I have an 8x6 genius tablet that I find way too delayed and unresponsive to my sketching style (I guess I couldn't expect much from a $50 tablet, but it was all I could afford), so I usually just draw on paper, scan it in, and photoshop it, but the results have been rather disappointing compared to my straight up colored pencil works. I may put aside some $$ for something better if the difference is really worth it, unless tablet drawing is just always going to be a very different feel that I simply need to get used to...
Again, amazing work as always!

Why was this rejected? Kind of frustrating that the reason was cut off because Drakxxx won't be sure what to fix to resub. I hope they get a quick response on this one to give him a fair chance to fix whatever it is. If I had to guess maybe because the background color isn't clear on the main comp (although it is pretty clear on the tshirt?)...

If this is about being too similar to that sackboy thing from Trick r Treat I just don't see how it's close enough warrant rejection. That type of character is not unique to that movie. Hell we used to make little fellas just like that in art class in elementary school 20 years ago. But clearly it's too late now.
What REALLY offends me is that the rejectionator showed up to axe a good Drakxxx design but didn't eliminate the icanhazcheeseburger tiger pumpkin shirt from you know who.

Wow, you know guys, I'd be more than willing to resubmit if I know what the exact reason I was rejected for. As others have noticed, the reason seems to be cut a bit short.
Anyways, if the character is to similar to the Trick r Treat character, I'll change him around.
But if the reason is more along the lines of what Mr. Gentry mentioned as a possible composition issue, well I'd need to know that as well.
This combined with the submission issues myself and many of the other artists had yesterday has certainly threw a wrench in my Halloween fun here at woot, but as I said, I'd be totally willing to resubmit this design, as it seems to be the only real chance I had at giving you guys a Halloween design this week.

I demand the Woot kitties answer why this was rejected! It is a fine piece of art and makes great use of the subject matter. I really like the way it is drawn as if a colored pencil technique was used. Just cause those kitties at the Woot do not have an appreciation for fine work the least they can do is give plausible reason for rejection, but what would you expect from a bunch of kitties anyways!

I just want to echo everyone else's disappointment with how this derby is going and how Woot is handling it. How Woot can reject this entry and not reject the orange kitten after they already rejected the purple kitten is mindboggling. And then to reject this with absolutely no reason given, is unfair on Woot's part. I can only hope that my other favorite Drakxxx submission of this derby, requiem of a soul stealer, somehow makes it into the fog.

After looking at the two versions of the Trick r Treat movie posters, I'd say that's exactly the reason it was rejected. There are elements from both posters in this shirt, almost like they were combined into one. I'm not sure a resub would help since the main character of your shirt appears to be the problem.

i actually watched trick r treat for the first time last night and if this was rejected due to similarities than there is one large fundamental problem...the trick r treat movie incorporated a variety of elements from commonly told and commonly known tales of horror or halloween. so yes there are similar elements however it is not a rip off of the movie nor does it appear that it is meant to be the character from the movie. almost every part of the four tales from the trick r treat movie came from stories that have been told over and over again. what made the movie unique was tying those tales together. i personally do not see the rejection problem here. the character's head is not shaped the same, he is not attired the same, does not have the same face or even a similar face for that matter, in fact the way his head is done is more reminiscent of a scarecrow's head than the character of the movie. it's a creepy little ragheaded kid on jack o'laterns....elements i associate with halloween. so while yes it might invoke the image of sam in your head ....it's not sam
so woot, the company that consistently prints live traces, copyrighted images and weak parodies of copyrighted characters thinks this is too similar...wow

Jesus tapdancing Christ, I am so pissed right now I could spit. This is the HALLOWEEN derby, Drakkk's time to shine, and his top voted shirt was rejected for the reason of " ' "???
I really wasn't sure that woot was as screwed up as a lot of people have been claiming, but this definitely confirms it for me.

Ok, let's make this very clear from the start: Of Drakxxx's three entries (I don't count that cartoony one because it feels too rushed and sloppy to associate), this is the one I feel deserved a print least. Part of printability is wearability, and I just can't see how this is more wearable than his other work. I think Requiem of a Soul Stealer is easily his best this week... how ironic that woot also declined that one too.
That said, it ALSO deserves a reason for rejection. That is BASIC RESPECT. If woot could find the time to reject it, they could find the time to log in and post in the thread when they realized they didn't have a full reason. If they were going to make a rare weekend rejection, they should have been prepared to make the reason well-known. It would help Drakxxx fix the piece easier, and also help his fans quell any anger if it was some sort of copyright issue.
The big question is also "why sunday?" To me, there are only two reasons: either they considered it a huge submission sin, or they wanted to give Drakxxx more time to fix it and have a fighting chance. If it's the latter, it's even more reason they should have taken the time to make sure the full submission reason was written out.
...but if it's the former? Why the hell wasn't MAI PUMPKIN rejected too? It's not like they didn't see it in the fog while rejecting Drakxxx's. What could possibly be wrong with Drakxxx's that is worse than resubbing a rejected piece with a different color scheme as if that makes it different? It makes woot look as though they WANT that to print. It's pathetic and disgusting that they'd target one and not spend a little extra time to knock off what they all know is an illegitimate pile of scaffolding.
It feels like Sokowa's "Far Side" rejection. An un-shown comic garnered her a rejection, while SIMILAR SHIRTS EXISTING didn't stop Tuesday's gonna be rough from printing. Just the same, Drakxxx gets rejected for (probably... who knows if they don't tell us) looking vaguely like a horror film, while a shirt that was already rejected sits pretty in the fog untouched, and another with at least as much similarity to Candy Corn Cannibalism as Drakxxx's piece has to Trick or Treat is skyrocketing toward the fog itself. Basically, if we are to believe that one rejection is warranted for non-shirt similarity, then pieces with EQUAL similarity to ACTUAL SHIRTS should be rejected also. If Drakxxx is gone, so should both of those, for the SAME EXACT REASONS. I hope we've all tattled?

Drakxxx, I always love to see your stuff. You haven't put out something I've really loved in a few derbies and a lot of your designs fall within a narrow range, stylistically, but I have great respect for you as an artist. Even more now seeing how you are handling this derby.

That last line was brilliant. It is completely insane that this was rejected today, with NO explanation and that the ridiculous "f-u woot" kitty resub is still there. I think you deserve an apology, Drakxx.
Though I'm glad you are classy and I'm sure your resub will not just be a different colored creeptastic kid.

While I am very disappointed this got rejected, I can understand it. The description of the kid from Trick 'R Treat has him with a lollipop and he looks just like this... However, I think woot needs to be much more thorough. Give him a damn reason for the rejection so he can resub, at the least. Also, If they rejected Seki's first cat in a pumpkin, are they seriously not going to reject the same thing with a color panel thrown over it?
Get your act together woot.
4/1/10: 2.5 lbs---2/25/10: 5.6 lbs
12/25/09: 22.4 lbs---10/28/09: 5.4 lbs

That sums up the issue. It is not that this got rejected: perhaps the rejection is viable (I don't watch films, and my preferred horror genre is before I was born, anyway, so I've never seen this movie), but the issue is that the reason is not shown, the rejection was made special for this entry, and MORE REJECTABLE ENTRIES WERE NOT REJECTED AS WELL.
Woot could save themselves a lot of grief if they ran their contest properly.

Although I really like shirt.woot and have purchased many shirts from here, the increase in incidents such as this are really making me unhappy with this site. It is almost getting to the point that if something is not done about rejection standards then I will have a hard time continuing to support shirt.woot. Though I do want to. But, the way shirts are rejected needs a way that will be consistent with rejections. And also responding to users and designers Questions instead of being silent and not responding to concerns as they arise.

Just wanted to say this is why woot utterly disappoints me. That piece of generic, recycled, REJECTED, s*** didn't get rejected but they found the time to reject this one. I actually don't like this shirt (Drakxxx style, while really awesome isn't for me most of the time), but my likes or dislikes are well beside the point of what makes sense. And that god damn repainted kitten in a pumpkin is possibly the worst shirt they twins have submitted since THE EXACT SAME DESIGN was rejected.

When I logged in tonight and saw that this was rejected and the pumpkin kitteh was still there, I was genuinely upset. I normally try to stay away from the submission drama, as I have no artistic talent myself and who am I to judge, but this just made me angry. Though I doubt that woot would care if people left over this, it does make me want to look at other shirt sites first in this economy.

Even if woot didn't give a reason, at least it's good they rejected this one before the other one many dislike and will most likely be rejected (again). It gives draxx resub a better chance and gaining in the ranks. If those others got rejected at the same time they would have equal time to get votes. Woot does need a better explanation as to why it was rejected, but I think it's actually better that they did it before others. Sounds like strategy to me, not woot doing something wrong.

I am hoping, hoping, hoping that they are just so mad at Seki for submitting the same piece of garbage that they are going to wait until the very last minute to reject it, so there is no chance of an even more ridiculous resub.
Of course, this is unlikely.
