I couldn't make his feet more talon-y. I tried, I tried, but it just made them look... wrong. I did put in a falling bird to try to give the impression of height, though.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. And for the help in the forum, too.

After making this design, people have made me aware of it. I haven't seen it, though. This design was originally going to be one of the little birds getting stepped on while it tried to eat bread crumbs on the sidewalk. I changed it to the wire because the composition didn't feel so right on the first version.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but this image is similar to that of a Pixar short. The birds little birds make fun of the big one, he flies up and lands in the center and the wire stretches all the way down and he falls off and they all going flying up and you see they all lost their feathers at the end. It's called for the birds, here is a link to an image that looks extremely similar. http://www.pixar.com/shorts/ftb/index.html

Yeah, it's called "For the Birds". Absolutely the best short Pixar ever did. But I would argue that this is a parody of that short, which is usually allowed.

How do you create a parody of something you're unaware of? Parody is, by definition, deliberate.

Well if one person has an idea, then another could have the same one. I've thought of many inventions only to find out that they have already been done.

If there's a trademark, even if you are unaware of it, it's still illegal to copy (and especially sell) anything with the likeness. For instance, you're screwed if your name is McDonald and you want to name a burger joint after yourself. McDonald's even sued a Japanese restaurant trying to sell "McSushi." Not sure if this counts as a violation though.

Very, very true. I've noticed the same thing since I've been a member here, which is a short time (I know, I know, I know, lol).

That being said you just have to navigate around it. :\ It's frustrating, but eh, the whole world does it in every walk of life.

I do generally likes Boots' work, and this one is also super cute. I do wish it didn't have the Big Bird feed. I would really rather artists not use any existing properties, even for parody. To me it's banking off of a fanbase as opposed to the artist's craftsmanship or whatnot.

Heh, that being said...I do appreciate that Boot's still adds her own flair here. It's not a trace parody (very common lately) that was directly mimicked. It's similar to some other things, but she did add original touches, which is cool.

I actually pretty much agree with you. But the truth is, I enjoy parodies if they're done well. I wouldn't design them every week, or fill my closet with them, but I think occasionally they're fun and can be creative. I like to mix it up and do a lot of different stuff, all of which I enjoy. The occasional parody is a part of that. The one thing that I'm not so much a fan of is "pandering." I define that as creating something that you personally dislike, but doing it because you know it will be popular with other people. It's hard to call someone out on that though, because you never can tell if the artist is playing to the masses, or if they just have really horrible taste themselves. ;)

It's all a matter of taste. We're all different, or else we'd all drive yellow cars :D.

While I'm not a fan of parody perse, I still like that your design looks like _your_ art. It's not a mimmick or trace of an existing style or character. That's the difference I'm trying to explain regarding parody. Sorry if my explanation is confusing, I'm not trying to be negative ^^;.

yeah, I thought of the Pixar short, too. It's crazy how similar it is, since you haven't seen the Pixar bit...

it's cute but I wouldn't buy it because it's a confusing conflation of the two ideas, big bird and Pixar (though unintentional).
