Wow! Nice way to symbolize a thought bubble as a shadow, instead of the more simplistic obvious way! I expect this to get lots of love in the derby. Amazing details too.

Re: Delusions of Grandeur

I really like the concept but the shadow is out of phase with the bird and it's really throwing the whole comp off. I know it would be much more difficult but I think it would look much better if the shadow was parallel to the bird or more parallel anyway.

Love the shirt, think it's a great idea, and well executed. I absolutely love the feathers look; such amazing texture, they actually look 'fluffy'.

I do second what Wednesday says- the shadow seems a little bit low on the shirt to match up. Not a deal breaker by any means, just some (hopefully) constructive feedback.

Yep. Unfortunately it's the only thing I can see on this shirt. The little bird with the worm is adorable, but I live way too close to the border. :/

What would happen if the shadow was placed directly behind the tiny bird?

though it is also cool as it is.

It would look like a blob of color in the middle of the shirt, like the other shirts I wouldn't wear.

Re: Delusions of Grandeur

Ridiculously clever! My only critique is that it might have looked good on a lighter shirt so the shadow would be darker and look a little more like a shadow, but other than that this is awesome.

It looks great the way it is, IMO. if you look beyond the comp, you can see how the images complement each other perfectly. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this piece. GMV.

I think people are missing my point so I will clarify. The bird with the worm is about 45 degrees tilted away from the plane of the shirt to give it a 3D look. The shadow, however, is completely parallel with the plane of the shirt. It would be better if the shadow have the same 3D perspective that the bird does.

Darn you, now that you've said that, I cannot enjoy this shirt on the same level as before... Blast.

Still, though, excellent concept. Work on the execution just a bit.

Why? A shadow is a 2D projection on to a surface. I see the bird flying a bit away from the shirt with the shadow projecting down on to the shirt. The perspective in the shadow itself works well enough with the position of the bird and the snake.

My favorite in the derby right now. GMV for sure.

If it was being projected on the shirt, the image should be distorted otherwise it's not a true projection which is why it looks awkward. I'm not saying it isn't a clever design but the execution could be improved.

Re: Delusions of Grandeur

It doesn't bother me in the least that the "shadow" isn't where or at the angle it should be. I don't even think I see it as a shadow. I see it sort of like a thought bubble-less thought/daydream. It's a great design with good movement and I think it wouldn't have worked as nicely if the shadow had been skewed to match the bird's angle.

Re: Delusions of Grandeur

I think that the shirt is best as-is for several reasons.

1. If the eagle and snake was detailed anymore prominently the shirt would be seen as a comparison between the eagle and the tiny bird rather than the eagle representing the small birds image of itself.

2. The placement of the bird vs. shadow is in front because the shadow is actually how the bird is viewing itself during the hunt.

3. It's just an awesome shirt, def reminds me of how I live my life i.e. when I'm making dinner I imagine myself on the iron chef.

I love the concept, but something just seems off...as if the bird and worm just don't match to the shadows very well. And yes, I realize the shadow is supposed to be different.

But it doesn't seem to match up properly. I'm not sure exactly how to make it better, but it just doesn't feel quite right yet...

Very true. Well we're focused on reality, the fact that its a shadow of his thoughts is absurd! I demand you make it a show of the bird and worm! None of this silly thought/shadow projection!

Honestly though, love the shirt. GMV.

Awesome concept, and I do love the work overall. I'm not as phazed by the shadow placement as others, since I get the thought/shadow thing. I am a little creeped by the eyes, though - somehow the blue/yellow combo comes off as... idk... metallic?

It has nothing to do with realism, it's aesthetics. And isn't that what people want out of a shirt?

I saw it in the same way... more like a thought projection... or a mental impression rather than a shadow...

  • Congratulations on winning a Best Loser Award!
  • This is not SPAM.
  • Winning a BLA does NOT mean this shirt won't print -- I'm hoping it does.
  • Your one and only gift is this crappy little badge in your shirt thread. Enjoy.
  • Show me how you do it, and I promise you, I promise that I'll run away with you.

Hahahahah - reminds me of my kitten! "Ferocious jumgle stalker"

One comment about the eyes - I think the two color eyes seem strange to me, it might look better with black eyes, like most birds (at least, small birds that I can think of off the top of my head), with maybe a strategically placed highlights to show some direction that he's looking at the worm
