Re: Lunacy

This week's theme brought forth rather a shift in my style, but I'm pleased with the results.

In medieval times, madness was thought to be influenced by the phases of the moon. The concept, incidentally, might also have had an influence on the idea of lycanthropy.
So....there I went! Link to a larger version to follow.
Hope you all enjoy!

This is wicked, I love werewolves yet so many derby shirts I've seen that tried to tackle that theme have sucked IMO.

Voted!

I agree, and woot's daily artists' own attempts haven't been any better.

Tan, this is already my desktop background. :D I hope to have it in shirt form. By the way, any word on Gorgon Love's future as a shirt?

Great style and design. Not sure if it's one I would wear out on town, but it definitely has my vote- even if I won't wear it out, it's great nightie material :-)

I've been working on making adjustments to Gorgon Love based on the critiques I got when I subbed it here. I was JUST about ready to submit it to Threadless, when today I managed to overwrite the wrong file and undo it all. >_<
Don't worry - I'll get it up there eventually, and you all will be the first to know.

Re: Lunacy

This is beautiful, Tan

It actually reminds me of a short story I read in my Vampires & Werewolves class about this matriarch who lived in a large mansion/castle of some sort surrounded by wolves. She got her lycanthropic powers from drinking the juice of yellow flowers, which I think I'm getting from the color of the wolves' eyes.

I'll try to find the title and author if I can. It's a good story.

I did some googling! The story is called "Wolfland" and it's by Tanith Lee. I also recommend the film "The Company of Wolves" if you're into the twisted Red Riding Hood stuff.

Vampires was definitely the coolest class I had in college. ;)

O.M.G. Used to love Tanith Lee's stuff. And I think you are the second person to have seen The Company of Wolves (me being the other!). I should try to find a copy...

*starts to drink lots of yellow flower juice*

Sad to hear about the mess up with Gorgon. I can relate. I once lost most of my stories o_o I hope for a future with lots of Gorgon Love to go around.

That's what I'm hoping for! It's a setback, to be sure, but too many people want to see Gorgon Love out and about, so I shall prevail!

Gods, I love your style. When it meshes with subject matter I also like, I start drooling. (Well, not really drooling, but you know.)

This is one that meshes. GMV.

I'm glad you enjoy the design - I'm rather surprised that it seems to be continuing to climb.
Fingers crossed!

Re: Lunacy

It's an interesting design, and I like the way the prisoner's hand is outstretched to pet the shadow...

But the person seems to be in a weird position... sitting? standing? halfway in between? The proportions just look a bit confusing in the thigh/waist area. I'm no expert, but it kinda put me off the shirt. Maybe I just don't get it.

I intended her to be in a rather awkward position, actually - going for a slumped, half-sliding out of the chair. I thought it helped her seem more unbalanced, in keeping with the madness theme. I think given the theme, some distortion and confusion is a good thing.

How'd I miss this! Awesome art, and I'm sort of anti-werewolf but this is just a GREAT interpretation of the theme along with fantastic execution.

I interpreted it as her kinda squirming and trying to break free as a result of the lunacy. She's tied down to the chair, so I can see a person sliding around and trying to stand to get up while thrashing about.
