Re: PhySycho

This is hopefully a remedy for the lack of real dark cartoons in the derby. This is in the style of Jhonen Vasquez, but has its roots in much earlier art.

JTHM and Filler Bunny- genius.

Re: PhySycho

In case people are wondering if this is thematically relevant, there is a precedent of comic noir that is 50-60 years old, pioneered by Will Eisner's "The Spirit". Though since it's heavily influenced by a recent artist, it's up to woot to decide.

I think I love this. I'm not sure - I'm trying not to, actually. I have a ton of black shirts. But...
I always felt a lot of the noir stuff looked like the artist started with a black page, and scratched off the black to reveal the white (like we used to do in grade school)and reveal the picture.
Damn, definitely GMV!

Thanks! That's exactly what I was trying to design. I love the idea of the inverted wax sheet. There's a great kid book "Earl The Squirrel" that has that kind of inverse space.

In the spirit of thatrobert's BLAs, I've decided I want to recognize some derby submissions that didn't cut the mustard. Can't promise I'll pull this off every week (I would LIKE to), but I felt this derby, in particular, deserved some added attention...

CONGRATULATIONS on winning the YOU ROCK AWARD!

This means you are definitely NOT going to get printed following this Woot Derby.

But it also means that you
A. Subbed a great first effort
B. Subbed a design that for some reason just didn't rock the vote
C. Got Rejectionated but should definitely try again and/or re-sub in a more appropriate derby or as a daily
D. I like you

Take it for what it's worth - just wanted to give you a nod for the effort and make sure you keep trying. Rock on!

Hah! This is great! Thanks for the props... Maybe I'll get an HM, maybe not. But it was fun designing...
