Sorry for the lateness, but we literally JUST finished this one!

As the design depicts, the crazy Captain Ahab vs. The Great Old One, Cthulhu.
My money is on Ahab.

epic awesomeness.

really, you two are just brilliant together. This is truly one of the best designs I've seen in my time here.

I would love to see this as a huge, all-over print, or at least as big as could possibly be printed. I think that would showcase the amazing detail in the design.

definitely voted!!!

Re: THE CALL OF CTHULHU / MOBY DICK

This was a quite a challenge. This went through 4 different shirt colors. Cthulhu was green, grey, and brown. Ahab was orange, green, black, and blue. I tried tons or things. Drakxxx'sxs's concept that he posted in the thread had a red Ahab just to point him out. Some people mentioned that red actually would be cool. Given the colors I was already using, that made a good contrast so I just went with it. And it was the only thing that worked. Every other combination I tried just turned into a mess. This way, even at a distance you can tell it's not just a "cool squid thing" but there's some dude about to get him some dinner!

Just adding in to the chorus of adoration you two are justifiably receiving. This is just a great design, the subject has geek cool cred, it's on a tee color that'd look good on anyone, and the combination of amazing attention to detail and truly fantastic color with all that warm/cool contrast, this is a slam dunk first place. It's good you guys took the extra time and got this done well.

That said, how are the clouds in the background or any of the airbrushing going to be printed? If there is a screen on them, it's a pretty tight one. If a screen has to be added, how is that going to affect the image? I doubt it'd reduce the awesomeness of the art, but if halftoning it looks like hernia, it'd make it hard for me to buy one.

You can see the halftones in the Full View link. If there wasn't a sky, I wouldn't have used them period. But I found them necessary so there they are. I've asked the Halftoner himself, cmdixon2, about halftone sizes on the other Drakxxx/CrescentDebris collab "Alice in Chains" which was on asphalt. I sent him a 100% zoom and he said that was fine and could possibly be a little smaller. And he should know. He's printed many times with halftones. I have his shirt, Live Not On Evil, and it looks awesome so I have zero concerns.

I pop in now and again to see how the derby is going, but still have to keep clicking on this. I think you two hit a new level, here. Those tan/gold shades against the gray are just masterful, as are the highlights on the waves. The level of detail, especially on the water, reminds me of something by Hokusai, which equals mastery in my mind. I keep saying that, masterful, mastery. I mean it, this is above and beyond. Goddam, what a nice tee this will make....

This design is amazing. At first I though "oh no! this is going to get DQ'd because Cthulu is copyrighted" (that's why it was removed from first version of the the Dieties & Demigods book, right?) but then I looked it up and realized it was in the public domain which is awesome because that means this shirt has a chance at 1st.

I also have Live Not On Evil, and personally, I *don't* like the way the halftones printed in that one. However, this shirt is pure awesome, and I can't not vote for it. If it wins, I'll totally break my promise to myself to stop spending so much money on t-shirts and buy it. Pure epic awesomeness!

I just finished watching Gurren Lagann, and the concept of going up to Cthulhu and stabbing him in the face is totally in line with the message of that series. I can just imagine Ahab shouting "My spear is the spear that will pierce the heavens! Who the hell do you think I am?!" while commencing the stabbing. It makes me happy.

Woot has also printed at least two Cthulhu shirts in the past (that is to say I've bought two Cthulhu shirts from woot, don't know if they had previous ones). So they're clearly willing to put everyone's favorite Great Old One onto a shirt.

I am glad you said Ahab wins this one he does look like he is a bout to triumph!

I hope you win and can buy yourself a new tablet for your birthday although noone would know from looking at this that there was anything going wrong with the one you have.

You 2 have done it again. I've never seen this cthulu creature before you and woot, didn't know he was a book character, will need to read the book!

Gave my Dad The Clockmaker (Was going to, but couldn't wait for fathers day) Told him about you 2 and he said That you were both very talented, quite the artists, he was impressed. Said he would wear it to the clock shop, he has a very fine cuckoo clock that cuckoos when it wants, not on the hour!

Halftones "working" that small is really a matter of designer. I've seen it go both ways. Usually effectiveness-in-print correlates to general-talent-of-designer, which sadly means lots of horribly done halftones have printed.

On to the design itself, the linework really is top notch this week. It honestly steps your game up ridiculously, and that realizing that you're regularly among the best here with linework. And your work with CD's coloration has been regularly slaying in sheer quality. You make an excellent team

I bet he is between 23 and 26 based on his photo, which is rather sick since he is so incredibly talented!!! How many candles on the Prince of Darknesses cake? Noone knows...noone knows...but! On the day he was born, 3 good fairies came and secretly dipped his hands into a magic liquid of talentedness, from that day on everything he created with his hands was wonderful and magical too! The fairies sent Cresent debris whose hands they also dipped to work alongside the dark one, and so, dark and light they continue to amaze, and noone knows their secret... fairies dipped their hands!!!

Don't jinx it is all I have to say. I thought last week's Conan inspired shirt was a shoe-in to print and it ended up like 6th place. ( The cute crowd is a big part of the Woot base and they don't like "scary" things. (
