Wow! You wouldn't think this color scheme could work but it's really effective, and a great design too.
(I'm happy to see the end of the llamas species. Sorry fablefire. :p )
GMV!

It was an interesting challenge to say the least.
And yeah, the llama had to go.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
This is one of the most incredible shirts woot has seen in a very, very long time.
You've pulled off a color scheme that has been tried many, many times--and never achieved successfully.
I am speechless. Utterly speechless.
This must print.

Nice, I like to see it with out the rainbow. ( technically the rain came after everyone had left the Ark ) GMV
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
great colours POW!!!

Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
The colors! :D
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Wow, so much color! This is the best thing I've seen on Woot in months. Let's get this printed!
Sunshine!
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Amazing colors. I'd wear it just for that.
Assumed at first that the llamas were unicorns, like in the folk song about how they missed the Ark and are thus extinct.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Very nice. Great colors.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
I love it. I want it.
Is that a dove up top there? My eyes aren't the greatest so it kind of looks like a yellow speck to me.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
It's SO happy! :D
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
This is SO great. It makes me happy.. and impatient for next week's results! You deserve a win with this beauty!

Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Wow. That is some skill with color there.
At first I counted the six colors in the rainbow and the dark outline of the boat and thought there were seven colors, then I realized that the blue in the image is the shirt color.
Nice work, looks great! Good luck!
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Oh wow you're right it is only six colors! I really thought there were more. This is incredible! I want one! and accurate or not I really like the rainbow.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Eshto, the more I look at this the more I think you are one sick puppy!!! (JUST KIDDING!!!!) Seriously, poor Noah is going over board and that one LLamas mate is looking so bummed!!!!
All that aside...this is a bright and vibrant and detailed and carefully created image that is alot of fun to look at , I love the tough, heroic
portrayal of Noah...this is sort of like a comic strip my husband used to do.."Unknown facts in history..."
Very very nice entry , worth the hard work, for the visual you have given us!

I made up a happy little story for this in my head. The squid is just misunderstood and wants to join the other animals on the ark. They fight at first, but one of the platypi is a pacifist, and intervenes. The fight ends and Noah eventually learns the lesson that all animals are God's creatures, even the giant scary ones, and they all become friends.
The llama still gets eaten though. Sorry.
And thank you so much everyone for the compliments. I had no idea the color scheme would work when I started and I am super stoked that it does. All I knew at first was that I wanted the rainbow in there because I wanted it to reflect a children's story version of this. The rainbow and the dove are always there in the toys and kids' stories, and I needed that color and cuteness for the humor. It was a challenge, that's for sure!
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
This is incredible. GMV and a definite buy if/when it prints.

Hah! I love it! Makes me want the shirt even more!
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
(RE Eshtos ark and the giant squid just wants to be fiends too)
Oh! That is so sweet! The poor sweet giant squid! Poor bumbling destructive enormous misunderstood gigantic squid wants Noah to love him!! (And he just beats him with his staff!!! Gimme my LLama!!, bad squid!!!)
THis is wonderful...thanks for sharing the REAL story of what happened one day on the ark!
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
VOTE. I MUST BE ABLE TO BUY THIS SHIRT!
I can't believe it took me more than three times looking at this shirt before I saw the platypi. So much love. The colors, everything.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
WANT x 1000. Voted!!!!
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Great colors and design. The rainbow looks good but is a little too fabulous for me to wear. However it really does complement the rest of the design. Hmmm.. actually this design is too good not to wear.
cerijerome wrote:Great colors and design. The rainbow looks good but is a little too fabulous for me to wear. However it really does complement the rest of the design. Hmmm.. actually this design is too good not to wear.
I'll take "fabulous" as a compliment.
Either way, I think most people understand that the rainbow is an iconic symbol associated with Noah's Ark, and won't misinterpret it.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Oh this is really nice. I like the colors you've got on it. They're nice and bright.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Love! I love everything about it! I love Noah, and how ridiculously stiff the llama is, and the male lion's tongue sticking out (I think). Just so you know, thogh in my shirt story, when this prints and I buy it, I'm going to tell people that Noah beat off the squid and it dropped the llama back onto the boat.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
GREAT work. The colors are really effective, and I just love the illustration.

:D That's a perfectly valid interpretation of the story.
I made the llama stiff on purpose so that it almost looks like it doesn't care or isn't in any real danger, because I thought that would be funnier than having it flailing around in panic. I can imagine a scenario in which the squid just sets it down, and it goes about its business like nothing happened. LOL. I'm glad you appreciate it!
I still say it gets eaten though. ;P
What programs are people using to draw these entries?
ArchonII wrote:What programs are people using to draw these entries?
I used Photoshop and a Wacom tablet.

I absolutely love that about this shirt. It has soooo many possible outcomes and each is just as delightful as the next.
Be sure to vote if you haven't and get others... We all want to buy it, imagine how AWFUL it'd feel if it didn't print... It may drive me to go llama hunting -_-
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
The colors so bright... my eyes
Great job on this, my only complaint was mentioned earlier with the fact that the rainbow didn't happen untill after the flood but I'm a stickler on things like that ![]()
tjost wrote:The colors so bright... my eyesGreat job on this, my only complaint was mentioned earlier with the fact that the rainbow didn't happen untill after the flood but I'm a stickler on things like that
You are right. But I had to represent the entire story and its most important iconography in one image. If I made a story book and had multiple illustrations I would separate them out.
Or you could just pretend the waters are receding but the land happens to be outside of the picture frame?
I am a stickler for accuracy in retelling stories, too. Which is why I hesitate to watch the new Clash of the Titans. I think I will be annoyed by all the changes they made to the classical literature.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
like a bag of pork rinds vomited. but in a good way ;)

The colors, THE COLORS..! I love them!
Plus the drawing itself is really neat.
Nice work! clapclapclap
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
I keep coming back to admire your use of color!
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
You did a great job with your color choices for this one. It takes some guts to go this route so I'm glad to see it's paying off for this design. ![]()
I dont know if someone else already addressed this, however I think this shirt would be complete if it were a unicorn that is being taken. Then it will explain why unicorns don't exist, (any longer).
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
I have to agree with everyone else the colors work really well on this, I never would have thought to try colors like that.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

In for three. And then three more in the reckoning.
And I wonder how many other technical inaccuracies there are with this shirt?
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
That squid eye looks like a poorly drawn vagina, lol... Something about the colors maybe. :P
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
This is pretty awesome...but i don't think it would make a good shirt honestly...it looks like one of those things people just vote for because of a meme ...llama being part of the meme here.
Like i said though i think it's cool but i couldn't' wear it.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
No, a llama in a cape is a meme. This is the brilliant inclusion of a llama in an otherwise exceptional design.
fredsmith2 wrote:And I wonder how many other technical inaccuracies there are with this shirt?
You could go to the Bible and read exactly how many cubits the ark was supposed to be and tell me I have the scale all wrong. LOLOL!!
Some of us here would make good Trekkies. Did you know Chekov wasn't technically in the cast yet when they met Khan the first time on the show? And yet Khan recognizes Chekov in the movie. Hmm....
(I already am a Trekkie yes).
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

LOL nooo, I made it light-hearted, I'm not making fun of the story. My most devout friends and family members would love it. My mother already said she will buy one if it wins.
The only thing I'm trying to offend is llamas.
ROFL. Just kidding. I hope it appeals to people whether they love or hate llamas (which is part of why I made the llama looking indifferent, like it's not really in danger... whether he gets eaten or not could go either way).
Thanks!
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
I am in awe of your ability to get so much out of just six colors.

VIIIofXIII wrote:I'm not quite sure you understand what a meme is.
I have no idea what a meme is and I would like to know .
SnowQueenVT wrote:I have no idea what a meme is and I would like to know .
It's basically an idea that can be passed on from person to person. The word "meme" was coined by a biologist who thought that ideas might copy and spread like genes do, and he thought that studying genetics can give us some insight into how ideas spread and change over time.
Then when the Internet culture arose, people began calling any catch phrase, image or video that people were sharing over and over again an "Internet meme". So "Rick Roll" is a meme. So is "LOLCats". "Charlie the Unicorn". "Salad Fingers".
The thing about how Chuck Norris is so awesome he crushes all opposition is a meme. And it's the subject of today's woot shirt!
Make sense?

I can't remember the last time I felt I could justify purchasing more than one shirt in the derby. Depending on which of these place, I could be in for three different designs.
This is my top priority though, vote if you have not yet done so! Must. Have. This. Bright. Shirt. Before. Summer.
ahhhh! love!! Love!! LOVE!!
One of the few entries where the mashup is actually interesting...
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Just came back to root for this one again! I haven't wanted a shirt really badly here for awhile. But I wants this one..adorable/horrific is a must for me.
Plus, there's a llama...

No Llamas in general have definitely became a meme probably starting with the llama song on albinoblacksheep.com years ago. Dude where's my car (It's a LLAMA) 4chan. It spread and became the general purpose funny animal.
Eshto wrote:What does that mean?

It means that Dhouses picture playing volleyball has replaced the cartoon avatar...I have been trying for 2 days to upload my photo but the circuits are jammed, all million or so wooters are trying to add their own image to this site, all at once...
Can you see through all that fog there Eshto? It won't be long now!

I believe Monty Python was doing llamas better and way before that, but it still doesn't make literally anything with a llama part of a meme. Llamas are neither out of place on nor necessary to this design.
Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Love the colors and style! Go Eshto!
